That's the part that bothers me.  Oiler fans are insensed when someebody touches him and there isn't a penalty for being mauled.  Louie and Jack are the worst for talking about that crap.  The last playoffs, I thought the refs did a good job of not being fooled.  He uses his edges so much that he is a taint away from falling most of the time.

He's getting to the point of diving now.  So desperate.  Probably wouldn;t care about Kane coming in.  Help to have SN fan boys and "insiders" carrying the water for the team.  Fans don't even have consistent opinions anymore.

    Go Van!

The McDavid factor is the opposite of the Wideman factor.

I thought it was a good defensive play myself.

Refs are a joke these days.

Obvious hacks and trips let go.

Play a guy tough and you get a holding call.

Picks ignored most of the time now.

If McDavid falls, it must be a penalty.

The Cats feed just did a nice bit on Bennett. Career-tying 18th goal tonight in his 33rd game. 43pts in 46 games with the Panthers. They loooove him. Raved about his play away from the puck and I definitely agree with them there.

Who is in net for Van?

Not that he would end up like Byfuglien, but when Byguglien turned D, he loved it, as it was an easier game on him. Not the same kind of skating done as a forechecker, not that Ruzicka is a forechecker, but if he already plays a D game, it might not be that much of a transition.

Byfuglien was a dman in Junior and drafted as a Dman.

I think he has been consistent in the AHL this year, but a little up and down in the NHL games he played.  Some of it comes down to lines and minutes, but as I said, he needs to try to be his best every shift.  Last night the compete was there.  If he does the same level of effort in a game where he's held off the scoresheet, then I suspect that is what Sutter would want to see.

I'm not going to get too high on this game, as every line dominated.  It won't happen every night.  He got PP time because he deserved it.  He worked the puck to start the play that resulted in his goal.  But I saw similar effort on other plays.  He made a nice one in the D zone.

It's difficult to stay in the roster.  You need to prove you belong there.  Doesn't just mean scoring a goal.  Means that you are doing the things when you are not scoring.  A good forecheck.  A hit that disrupts a play.  A simple play to chip the puck out of harm, where you get time to regroup.  Details.

Some people may suggest that bringing up Phillips or Gawdin might generate more offense with him, but I think that is risky.  Get him to the level he needs to be first.  Can't spend time working on a line in-game because you have multiple rookies all at different levels.  If illness/injury makes that necessary, then you work with what you have.

He plays the hardest position. Hopefully Lindholm can help him. Lindy's one of the best. It's up to the wings to forecheck, not the C, but there is a line in how you support the puck. If you're a C caught to deep and there's a turnover, it's 3-on-2 going the other way. When the Sting were heavily favoured against the Spits, they barely squeaked out a 7 gamer. They were favoured vs the Rangers and had their butts handed to them. One consistency was Ruzicka played like a dman. He just couldn't get into the o-zone, like he was frozen in fear of his D responsibilities. Now I'd say that's coaching. But also, Lindy is one of the best at finding the balance. Hopefully Rozie gets a lot of support and advice from him. Gotta stay fluid at both ends.

It could be mental, worrying about the opponents threat on the ice, rather than being confident that you are the threat. He's a hard one to figure out. He has a great coach now, so it's up to him. But he's infinitely a better option than Gawdin.

Sometimes I can't tell the difference between Rucizka and Monahan.  That's both a compliment and an insult.  For the money, I'd take Ruzicka over Monahan all day every day.

The joy is that you don't have to. It would appear Mony's game is coming around. Sometimes you just need faith and patience in the coaching staff.

100%. Skill set to be a top 6 center but often the motivation/energy level is that of a AHL/NHL tweener. Always been an interesting case to watch.

But if he ever can turn it on consistently the Flames probably have something.

I’ve always championed him, but he needs constant reminding that he can be a millionaire. His Sting performance in his last performance here was pathetic. But so was Kyrou’s. Ruzicka should be a good 3C at worst. Amazing to think he has to be reminded.

Did he also say that he needs to improve his faceoffs?

I thought that weird considering he was 55%.

But I completely agree with Sutter's comments.

Can't be up and down in play.

Play this way every night and you are a NHL player.

Vets tend to have a bit of leeway in that respect, but they have a body of work.

They usually have been solid throughout their careers.

He's showing top 6 capability, so earm that spot by doing the same thing every game.

No matter who you play with.

I counted three high danger chances.

And he controlled the play when he was out there.

    And clean up the details.

I think Kos was one reason the game was close to begin with, there were a few sure fire goals he had no business stopping.  But you're right, if any goalie is going to have a confidence booster game, whether its deserved or not,  it will be against the flames.

They weren’t going high on him. It was virtually non-existent. I could see net, why couldn’t they? This team’s mentality is still a struggle for me. Do they not study a goalie’s weak spots? Every goalie is great when you play to there strengths. Lucic had a perfect chance, elevate the dang thing. He’s big and always down, lift the puck. He doesn’t give much low. We make any goalie look great. Figure it out, it’s painful.

    Refs blew this game..

Missed a blatant penalty on Kylington that took out the D and allowed Draisaitl to have a clear path past Tanev.

No. The Flames did. They like Blockchaining everything up. Oilers sucking. Flames suck.

    It's just dumb.

Isn't the goalie coach's job also scouting the goalie that you're about to face?

    Sure didn't look like it.
