  1. We're on the same plain my friend. We could write for them. Seriously. But why.lol I already know there's nothing there that I'll waste time reading. I'm pretty sure I saw 1 of their headlines being, "Trade Proposal: Draisaitl to Detroit for 4 pieces".lol Why bother with that clickbait, it's developmentally-delayed, if that's the new, non-offensive way of saying idiot. Maybe a good talking point would be how narrow the talent gap has become in international play amongst the young talent.
  2. THW are pretty much the National Enquirer of Hockey imo. Pretty trashy clickbait.
  3. Chris Osgood can't hear you with his 3 cup rings in his ears. The, "yeah but the team in front of him" argument, like he did nothing. But that's okay for Grant Fuhr. Ozzie's been eligible since '14. But Luongo, 1st ballot, honestly? Worst NHL goalie at playing angles I've seen in the modern era.
  4. It's probably a good time to facilitate thoughts on life without Johnny With the disclaimer that I don't really expect it. There's a bit of a notion for me that we're ready to overpay a player that will be 29 when the season starts. For 8 yrs. Are we really thinking he'll be laying down 100pt seasons for more than 2 years? We need to ask ourselves, is this worth it for maybe 3 years of 1st line? This league is only moving further into the direction of young and fast. I'm actually okay if he moves on and forces us to have some foresight rather than 3 years into an 8 yr deal be living in hindsight. I'm not asking what we should do instead, simply, are we sure we want 8yr big contracts kicking in at age 29?
  5. Thanks dare baie. I'd like to say that it's because of my incredible skills, but that's a lie. It's 2 things: Pure luck, & Karma for being on an island of faith in the Flames this year to win the Pacific and be a good team. No team comes out of nowhere and wins a cup in this era. Have to endure the heartaches first. We're a good team and there's likely still some heartache, but we're going in the right direction. The future's bright, now build a frigging new arena. JFC Calgary, harass TCPL, they could build it from a financial callous on their pinky. How is corporate sponsorship so low-key with so much to choose from? Makes no sense. If Ottawa gets one first, that would be a very sad day. Have some pride and cut the grandstanding.
  6. The Avs had the luxury, or incompetence, to select 1st oa with a bonafide star. Then again, 4thoa with Makar in the laughable 2017 draft, via laughable trade (not protecting the 1st Ottawa). Rantanen at 10, 2010 2nd oa with Landeskog. None of this stuff did we have the ability to do, so comparing us to the Avs isn't relevant.
  7. I kinda wonder as we all ruminate on loong deals if shorter deals may be available. I know they come at greater cost, but we sure could have used another year for cap mgmt. Plus, I think there's some "prove it" left after many career years. Mangiapane is my first concern. 35 goals yet long stretches of being invisible. Stats darling, sure, but that doesn't move me much.
  8. Damn that 2nd goal was a hooking penalty on Manson...still, need to score more than 1.
  9. Well now that's over hopefully news will start happening. We've got a lot of fish to fry in the next 2 weeks. I'll be a little nervous July 7th heading into the draft with unanswered questions. Could be a looong offseason. Or maybe things will be okay!?!
  10. Big thanks to rocketdoctor for providing the fun!!
  11. Okay Mr. SourGrapes, if I deduct the 9pts difference between McTool and Zibanejad, I'd only have you by 7 but 2 pts down in 3rd. Those 2 had McTool and Draisaitl and I wouldn't catch robrob at best and Hedman would have to get me to pikey. So clearly, if this were an election, I'm the lesser of 3 evils.lol
  12. pwnage.lol 16 up on TD, holy, I'd be embarrassed if I were him. yeah yeah, I know, sex and travel in 2 easy words, I hear it everyday;)
  13. I'm going all in on don't trade Dube. It makes little sense. He's $2.3per for 2 more yrs and just 23. For perspective, Toffoli makes $2mil more. Does he give you 2mil more than Dube does? I just don't understand the general willingness to trade him. Is our aim to be the slowest team in the league again? We could potentially invent a line this year of our homegrown prospects. Pelletier-Ruzicka-Dube. 2 playmaking wingers with speed and a big C.
  14. Really speaks to how fleeting the opportunity is. Injuries are huge setbacks. Team moves on without you, you come back and it's not easy to jump into a roster that's been set for awhile.
  15. Love the song, never really considered applying it geographically.lol I've done a coupla East Coast hollering days. Love it. Loved settling into a cabin on St. Marg's Bay. My go-to. Halfway from Lunenburg and Peggy's Cove, close enough to Halifax, great parks, etc.
  16. We did the patio party at my place because it's, well, 30C on the regular now. I always missed the night-time lows of 24 when I lived in Calgary. Let's go jump in the lake at 2am.lol Annnywaay, when Kucherov scored on the 4-on-3 I was saying, "man, I don't like that taking away from all of the great saves Kuemper just made, but it does". Kuemper is playing well. He's not Vasilevsky and was never going to be, but he's playing well. You can say the same for the Nichushkin goal, Vasi shoulda had Makar's shot. To imply Kuemper isn't half-way decent isn't fair at all. If the Avs lose, it won't be Kuemper's fault. As I said, Kucherov's goal erased all of his great work prior to it. On that goal, the shot was perfect and Perry had a total screen on Kuemper. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that you're cheering for the Avs? I've been seeing too much blame given to Kuemper from people cheering for the Avs. I don't have a horse in this race, this is just great hockey with tons of great players to watch. Really, why not blame MacKinnon for not lighting it right up. Can't blame him either. Both of these teams have a ton of danger all over. No one's gonna run right over anyone, this is great hockey.
  17. I'm a fan. I like Dmen that focus on playing D. He's a pretty sound player positionally, won't wow you, but solid.
  18. Looks like we have ourselves a series. Hopefully a gm 7. I've run out of superlatives for Kucherov, damn he's fun to watch.
  19. I've always thought they had a great roster. The Byfuglien incident, I believe, was a huge blow. All of the fear in that team went away when he did.
  20. This is a dicey draft. Rumours floating NJ could do 2OA and Zacha-ish for DeBrincat. NJ's actually looking pretty scary imo. Solid solid down the middle. Fix their G or Blackwood finds himself, that's a solid roster.
  21. They've never really recovered from losing big Buff, first and foremost, imo. He was the glue that shamed Kane and no doubt would've kept Scheifele a bit fearful. Wheeler would be a great player to rescue. FF in jets land would know best. He has great insights on the org and public opinion. For me, it seems it's gotten more toxic the longer Byfuglien's been away. Trouba leaves etc. They used to be pretty fearsome on D. Now it's Morrissey and Pionk, and ain't nobody a-scared of that. As cross mentioned before, world-class Hellebuyck has hidden much of the disaster at D.
  22. You are reading too much into it I think. Kevin Cheveldayoff has very deep roots in hockey. He has for a very long time. He'll have a Plan B, it's just gotten zero press on what it is. I'm sure we'll hear soon. Now Kev, are you a corvette or a chevette? Sorry, old joke.lol
  23. It's funny there hasn't been much word on other candidates for the Jets. This was their guy. There's at least 5 names floating around Detroit. Friedman was on one web blog or other saying he called 1 of Detroit's candidates and dude wouldn't talk to him, saying he wouldn't get the job if he talks. Terrified of Stevie's code of silence.lol There are solid candidates out there, and Chevy's very well-respected in the hockey community. I'm sure he'll come up with a solid Plan B. But it is quite odd that this was like an "all-in" thing with no discussion of other potential candidates. It's kinda weird. I'd have to assume Trotz turned down an extremely lucrative offer. Plus a lifetime supply of beer.lol
  24. There's a huge human factor. Do we really want cameras and AI reffing? I'd rather deal with some mistakes and refs know the tenor of each player. It's a tradeoff maybe. Sometimes a light penalty is due to the player. It's not an easy gig. Like players, they're not robots. They have to read the tenor of the game and who the Hash Rate are. Back to human factor...
  25. It's the norm in the NHL. Many Flames fans feel so hard done by and scream conspiracy.lol The other 31 teams feel the same way. Is what it is. If you don't wanna feel raped by officiating and "game mgmt" and the like, don't put yourself in that position. If you do, oh well. Come-see come-saw. Everyone knows the potential. This isn't new.
