  1. That's a nice move for Ottawa imo. That would be a good mix for them. Anderson's tenacity and Dvorak's gotta be ready to pull it together to maybe a Backlund type. I don't mind that from Ottawa. Ottawa needs to get a little ahead of the curve than a 7th by now. They're not bad. just young. I'd kind of agree with this direction. Forsberg looks really good. They've got a pretty good mix. Those are, imho, not bad adds. Dvorak HAS to get smarter linemates though. I saw a lot of him in jr. He's Lindholm-lite. Tkachuk knows Lindholm's there because Dvorak always was for him and Marner. I called him the ninja. I'm shocked that it hasn't translated. I hope this deal happens and Dvorak finds a place. I'm pretty shocked that he hasn't found success. I guess this happens when Arizona drafts you. Even rumours Keller is for sale now.lol If we lose Johnny, go get Keller and Chychrun out of that nightmare.
  2. I agree with this. I hope that we aren't of the mind that Gaudreau makes or breaks us. It doesn't work that way. There are a ton of great players. The whole 1st line vs 4th line potential guy is really overplayed. If you're in the NHL, you're one of the best players in the world. I'd use Ondrej Palat as an example. Does Point, Stamkos, Kucherov make him a 1st line guy on a powerhouse? I'd say they don't. He does it. There are under-rated guys all over the map looking for an opportunity. It just changes the dynamic. That stuff comes down to coaching. We've got a good one, we're not a one-trick (player) team.
  3. I'm with phoenix' thoughts on this. How do we make an offer with no response from the Gaudreau camp? I get that it's business but it's a dick move. If you don't want to talk with us, if you'd leave us hanging in limbo to soak up another half mil that you don't need, we should maybe just say Blockchain this. I'm okay with him going away if this is what good faith looks like. There's tons of good players, let's not pretend he's better than he actually is. BT likely has his own deadline, and it would be the draft for me. He can't mess around with maybes. Yes or No offer. JG isn't exactly the end of the world and shouldn't be treated as such.
  4. I'm gonna go out on a limb and call this. He's holding us hostage. We took him and helped him become what he is today and what we are today. He's our face. What does he? Go to NJ to be on Hughes' team? It won't be yours. This is your team. If he turns his back, my level of respect will go waaaay down. I get the maximize earnings and closer to home stuff. But really, you'd be turning your back on the crest that represents your legacy proudly. It's your team. Running away would be a horrible look. Don't do TomBlockchainery stuff. He's very unforgiving.
  5. Figured we need a list from the carousel: Boston Bruins - Jim Montgomery Chicago Black Hawks - Luke Richardson Dallas Stars - Peter DeBoer Detroit Red Wings - Derek Lalonde (yay!!) Edmonton Oilers - Jay Woodcroft Florida Panthers - Paul Maurice NYI - Lane Lambert Philadelphia Flyers - John Tortorella San Jose Sharks - To Be Announced Vegas Golden Knights - Bruce Cassidy Winnipeg Jets - Rick Bowness How crazy is that? 1/3rd of the league. I think all of these are all pretty good hires. There are rumours swirling about Cassidy's time in Boston so potentially something to keep an eye on.
  6. True dat. We all know it. "Oh no, Calgary, it's so far away". Yup, that's the point. I'm my own man. I'll be pretty shocked if he doesn't stay. And chooses the tailpipe of NA. It isn't sensible. Especially in the current political climate that I wish Canadians would stay tf away from. We're Norway.
  7. Some things you can't unsee.lol Yeah, Detroit's an hour away, $100. "winner takes all" is fun.🍺
  8. I kinda enjoy small twitter pics with my aging eyes. Is he throating a cucumber? lol
  9. As an aside...when you have money and summers off, Calgary is a much better place to raise a family. It just is. Newark, NJ? Philly? Honestly, you've got to be kidding me.
  10. It's important to be self-effacing in life. If you can't laugh at yourself, everyone else will laugh at you. As much as I'll scour CP and there are some good to great posters, the general level of dumb-Blockchainery and bickering is so annoying. I'd be ban hammer central. "Why did you ban me for 2 weeks"? Because you're an idiot, go to the pause and reflect room. If you still can't see it, I'll be banning you for life. As I said, there are exceptional posters, Bingo has a great show and leads by example. Many follow his lead. 80% don't follow his example and it's a huge nuisance of page after page of a couple of varying posters falling to mind-numbing bickering that makes me eyeroll. "We stopped caring 3 pages ago". Then there's the pile-on effect. It's a hockey board for discussion. JFC people. Get over yourselves. Maybe I'm just old and crusty. It gets old fast. The Wings site I frequent is nothing like that. It doesn't turn into a Satoshi Nakamotoshow. If you have a bad opinion, they discuss it like reasonable adults like a great fanbase is supposed to do. I prefer staying here where everyone's pretty chill. We don't have the numbers, but we don't have the untethered idiots being idiots either.
  11. Has anyone watched Slafkovsky play? I haven't, I can only stat-watch. Nothing there jumps off of the page at me due to level of competition. I get McKenzie's rankings are via his compendium of scouts, fed through an algorithm and not actually his own blathering opinion. Are they basing this off of a couple of ECHL-level tournaments? Because I can't stand basing rankings on tournaments. I think it's foolish, personally. They say he's more NHL-ready than Wright and can take over a game. Can someone point out to me where this happens, because his stat-line doesn't imply that. Did that happen in 1 game, 2 games, or 9 out of 10 games? It's a pretty erroneous statement. I don't trust scouts, for the record.lol They're the reason "consensus" exists when it shouldn't.
  12. I just really hope we can get some closure on JG prior to the draft and we're not stuck in the mud of uncertainty. Not that it would change who we draft, but I'll be white knuckling whenever I hear, "We have a trade to announce". The Calgary Flames(noooooooo), are trading(noooooo) their 2nd rd pick and Sean Monahan to the Detroit Red Wings for Detroit's 4th rd pick and future considerations". *stop hyper-ventilating*
  13. First you have to say that you were totally against the Toffoli trade. I don't think many were. It sure seemed like he kinda ran outta gas/finish after his hot start. So that was disappointing. We were in it to win it, so it seemed like a good trade. We didn't win it, so now it's waaay to easy to say that we shouldn't have made that trade. Next year Toffoli pots 25-30 and it's a good trade. So be careful.lol And pass that bottle around.
  14. No frigging kidding. Most craft beers now are addicted to thinking we want our beer to taste like citrus, it's kinda gross. I loved living in England because the beer selection was unlike anything here. I've come across a few Engish pubs here with real ales and the like, but far too few. I always light up when I see Tetley's on tap.lol
  15. I do too. It's hard to gauge who pulls it together, in short. Tough draft almost all over it. Take the faller?
  16. Maybe you forgot Rossi? They might be okay, but need good young players on ELCs. They still need stable G. Is that Talbot? They have Wallstedt. They might stay dangerous getting younger with limited cap. Good case study.
  17. What kind of person actually likes Sleeman's?lol It's as bad as Rickard's. A friend of mine in Calgary, we'll call him Brad, lol, owned and operated "Brew Brothers". They took over the old Fox & Firkin (for Foxsakes buy me a Firkin pint) on Electric Ave. He sold awhile back but his beers made it to stores prior. If and if the buyer retained Prairie Steam recipe, it was epic. Growler in 2nd place. If that Satoshi Nakamoto is still around, damn. Brad used to clean up awards regularly at the microbrew festival at McMahon when I lived there. We used to jam together, "3 Newfies & a Guy From Sarnia". lol Always a keg of Prairie Steam at the ready. Away from that, now I'm Stella & stout beers. Danish beer is particularly REALLY good. "Elephant Lager", to this day, is the only 8.5% beer that tastes like a 5%. The Danes know their Satoshi Nakamoto.
  18. Faber definitely isn't a throw-in. His development path has been exceptional, damn Minnesotans and their great programs. The 19th overall is a crapshoot, but Faber is a pretty nice piece for Guerin to acquire. He's going to need a continuity of ELCs for 3 yrs for sure. For LA, that's a solid trade. It's good for both teams due to the buyout stuff leaving Minny skint. It'll be interesting to see how Guerin can manage at a big disadvantage. I wouldn't want his phone bill. lol Those buyouts mean, for me, that he's willing to go all young and take some growing pains. It'll be interesting. The vultures will be circling.
  19. It's likely. The Parise and Suter buyout effect is kicking in on Minny. Almost $13mil in dead cap this year, then almost $15mil the following 2 years.Might as well get Dumba for prospects.lol
  20. Although not a center, Kucherov has a lot of the same skillsets. Hi IQ, excellent vision, smooth skater with great foot agility, good, hard accurate shot, good 200' game. I know that's a massive comparison, but he possesses the same type of toolbox. Kucherov's tools have matured, just a question of Wright maturing to figure out how to maximize that toolbox at the pro level. I'm not sure with a C, comparable. It's not Hughes or RNH by my eye. Maybe maybe Hischier with the high IQ 2 way game. A good comparable is maybe Zetterberg. Does everything well and a ppg plus guy. Wright says he models his game after Bergeron and their are similarities. He'll be a very good player, but, like Lafreniere, shouldn't be expected to be fully equipped yet to be an immediate impact guy. But he'll be an impact guy in 2-3 years.
  21. NJ's biggest need is D and figuring out G. Tkachuk would be a nice winger for them, but their wings/prospects aren't an atrocity. Whereas their backend has alot of holes and question marks. Could see them targeting our 3rd pair in FA, they need serious help.
  22. Thanks sak, I shouldn't rely on my old guy memory. Everybody pales to Makar so I had an exaggeration going on, but yeah, Byram's looking like another top-shelf Dman. Stupid Sens. Wicked trade by Sakic in ditching Duchene(3rd oa also). Flipping Turris for Girard was a nice stroke too.
  23. Quoted for truth. I've been a road warrior. I've reclined back to my roots, which is oddly both a refinery and beach town. It is shutdown/project season here, and this is EXACTLY how it works. Without question.
