I was going to rant on and on about him in the game thread so I figured, "just create a thread", because there is a lot to discuss. Looking at his draft class, who else would you take? We took Fox in rd 3 so he's out. Dude's a gamer. I feel when we're playing like duds he's always the guy that is trying to turn it around with no help. Often the throwaway trade fodder with fans, always running throughout the lineup for Sutter. I think Sutter quietly loves him and forces him into situations to make him better (C, Left-side). Personally, I think he left the A a year early in hindsight, but we're all impatient. Dube is an excellent case study to our ppg AHL guys now. I'd point at Robertson in Dallas too. Jim Nill (come back to Detroit,lol) definitely let him ferment before putting him on the big team. But back to Dube. He does everything you want, and not a peep out of him. He's turning the corner into a really good top 6 forward. It takes time. He's really coming into his own. I love that we have him.

He's getting closer, year by year. Definitely works his tail off in the off-season and it shows. He'll be 25 heading into next year for a final year at $2.3 and I think the value this year and next will be exceptional. I feel like he is always the most maligned Flames player from fans. But it's due to age, and he will age very well for us, leadership potential in a few years. Huberdeau is likely a great mentor for him to be around. Huby wasn't exactly a machine at Dube's age. And who doesn't love that angry scoreface?lol

Although I agree MP, next year brings another fun new element if the cap only increases by 1mil. We'll have 6 roster spots to fill(3F, 3D) and only $3.5mil of cap space. And that puts Rooney back in. You're thinking the current Dube-Lindy-Toffoli. But there have been so many short-term combos that I can't even keep track. It's little wonder our play is so inconsistent. Toffoli should be with Kadri imo. I'd be fine with Rosie on the left. I don't like Toffoli on PP1 either. It sounds like I'm ragging on him, but I think he's just slotted above his actual skill level. Like Lewis and Lucic get too often. Leave those 3 where they deserve to be..holy jesus on a bicycle..

It's what I've wanted from the outset, but it seems like Dube's mistakes and finishing woes get magnified waay more than everyone else's. The thing about not finishing, is at least he creates those opportunities. My hardest eye right now is on Toffoli's incredibly bad skating, with Mangiapane 2nd as it feels like he might be reverting to his mean as a 20 goal guy. I want to keep the Mang-Backs-Coleman line together. I feel like Mang has too much weight of expectation on him, so keep him where he's comfortable and stop expecting 30+ goals every year. He does a lot of other things well. Last year was really off, league-wide. Now it's back to stabilizing, post-covid, imho.

Both of my team's on 5 game skids by playing discombobulated hockey, so many similarities. Every line is 3 players that don't play similar games, faceoff issues, bad/dumb passes, turnovers, weak PPs, zero vibe in the D end that they're playing team D. Fans annoyed by coaching... Snap out of it everyone!
