Looks like we're that annoying loser point team this year. Toffoli looks like a good 3rd liner. On our top line and PP I'm starting to think that our top 6 is very shallow. But I'm guessing he isn't a player Sutter demotes. He makes Tkachuk look like a great skater. Put Dube there, at the very least he can keep up.

Maata's on IR too. Detroit had a lot of additions this year, but not really similar to the Flames. Perron, Kubalik, Chiarot, Maata, Husso. Really helped with depth to push guys like Suter and Fabbri down to more suitable bottom 6. Guys like Marc Staal free to go to Fla. Free of injury, the fwd lines may be Vrana-Larkin-Raymond Bert-Copp-Perron Fqbbri-Veleno-Berggren Soderstrom-Rasmussen-Sundqvist Suter, Zadina That's pretty decent. If only injuries weren't piling up. For the Flames, akin to losing Lindholm, Toffoli, Mangia, Dube and maybe Hanifin thereabouts. 2/3s top line, a 2nd and 3rd liner and a top 4 dman.(Maata's been top pair with Hronek). That's a ton. Their depth has been good enough to stay competitive, but yikes.

Larkin (hand) out for tonight and re-evaluated today. Ouch. Mounting injuries. Larkin, Bert, Vrana, Fabbri... not exactly the lightweights of the fwd roster. Yuck.

Welp, top teams are top for a reason. From taking 5 of 8 pts through CBJ TBay FLA DAL(2 posts in SO🤢) things looked decent. Then go toe-to-toe with the Canes and lose 1-0. Damn growing pains….

There’s 16 teams on EST so that’s always going to be lopsided. My argument is I didn’t expect the Wings to be ahead of Calgary. But, you lose to MTL twice and CBJ-type teams it is what will happen. The Wings have had very flat nights but occasionally. Calgary’s flat nights are stacking up. I’m not making a Wings vs Flames argument, they’re my teams. Both surprising, but for opposite reasons. Parity tends to make strength of sked a bit of a hollow argument. More of an excuse than anything.

Wings fans talk a ton about adjusting 3-on-3 and I agree. Once yo cross the red line, no passing back behind it is probably the best one. A shot clock? 10 minutes? Using the whole ice should stop for the team with the puck. At any rate, we’re 13-16, good for what, 20th in the league. I didn’t expect the Wings to be the better team. The strength of schedule argument has been flushed.
