  1. I still dont personally think Wotherspoon is ready , if you can pair him properly and protect him, possibly . hes one of those bubble guys, too good for the minors, but not quite prime time ready. Tellis was it was mainly him in Game 1 against Anaheim that just simply watched Perry walk out from behind the net and pick his spot. Flyer Fan mentioned earlier, and i fully agree.. we need to go hard for Beauchimen, with his history with Burke i think its highly doable. Another name I'll add to the mix is Barrett Jackman. Hes a tough, hard hitting shut down defenseman with easily a few years left. One or both add elements we need, and have just enough time left to bridge the gap to the future D's taking their place Can you imagine? GIO -BRODIE WIDEMAN-JACKMAN RUSSELL-BEAUCHIMAN Engelland and Wotherspoon as your 7/8
  2. I believe you can evaluate both. Remembering he started late, he was in a position to make moves without fully knowing what he had, or didnt have outside of inside consultation. The fact he kept it "safe" is very telling of the good job he will do. How many times have GMs taken over teams and started cleaning house and gotten burned? he made smart moves and avoided making absolutely devastating ones For example, he didnt jettison anybody, (eg: first thing Craig Button did was cut Martin St Louis), he made "safe" moves without knowing we had players who could rise and make those players obsolete . (setogouchi, to a minor degree, Raymond) He knew our defense needed depth, and as much as we all bashed it, by the end of the year Engelland stepped up and showed flashes of what was seen in him. Ramo was very unknown still, he gave us solid known depth in Hiller.. I believe now is when we find out more clearly what hes made of..hes seen all players in action .The scouts have had a year to work under his direction , these will be more picks in his mold. Im excited to be honest , his biggest test now will be Ramo. if he walks and bites you (and its a very real possibility if he walks he goes straight North) its a bad thing ...his top grade will , i believe , come from unfortunately moving Hiller, and resigning Ramo. Our exciting Rise will entice some free agents who wouldn't have looked at us at all last year At this point , im actually rather excited now to see the Full on Brad stamp start to take place
  3. Lets be sure to give Ramo the votes for TSN play of the year! That was one sick save against NYR! poy.tsn.ca 18 hrs to go and hez only got 55% right now
  4. I worry now about Ramo.. bad time for an injury.. If Hiller takes us on even a respectable run in the playoffs,(and lets be serious, even winning one round will be like wining the cup in this city) then he may have just injured himself out of a job . i think its wrong , and would be unfair, but its also business.. hopefully I'm wrong , we re -sign him and let 3 goalies fight it out in camp
  5. I agree 100% with the overall rating of B+, short time on the job , and hard to get into the A category without hitting a homerun or 2. i actually agree with every on of his signings, including Mason Raymond. The one i would actually give him a low grade on is Bouma. Yes, he needed to show us more, and yes he was still developing , but in the end he signed a $700K 1 Yr contract , and if im not mistaken he was seeking about 2-3 yrs at around 1.5M. He will definitely get that and more this summer. But to be fair to Brad , he likely had to take a lot of input from Hartley , and who knew he'd be an invaluable Power forward who suddenly learned how to score
  6. Don't look now but Laurent Brossoit has a 50 save game going tonight in Edmonton I'd still make the trade again though.
  7. The usual haters wont like this but I would say the hand has already been shown. We are in clutch time, every point is critical..fighting for our playoff lives.. Whos getting the starts? 11 of the last 14? Love it or hate it, Ramo is our #1 goalie. Hes obviously who Hartley trusts the most, who the team wins for. This is not to knock Hiller, he has been great to amazing the majority of the time, but right now hes Ramo's backup. This is not the time to test, showcase, or experiment, the job and a starters contract is now his to lose. We complete this run and make the playoffs? Ill predict it in print right now.. 5 mill per year for 4 years..maybe 5
  8. report was that Wotherspoon was also pulled from practice, unsure if because of possible trade, or because hes being sent back down now that mason Raymond has rejoined the team
  9. I'm using the CBA--heres a link .. http://thehockeywriters.com/nhl-waiver-rules/ this is the chart from the CBA He signed his Entry Level Deal March 30, 2011 at the age of 19(his birthday is April 1991).. which, based on the chart sets him at 5 years or 80 nhl games, meaning his waiver eligibility based on age sets it at March of 2016. He started 9 games for the heat the season on 2011-12, to date has only played 14 NHL games (not sure of that includes back up games) Not sure how 2 seasons back in Finland affects the numbers ,or that he didnt play an NHL game until 2013-14. if anything it would push him back more.
  10. Not Ortio, still only at about 14 games, and assuming ATOs count as when he signed his 1st nhl contract his age rule wont kick in until after next season. If ATOs dont count, then still about 2 years away, or until he hits his 60 games.his one way contract does not impact his waiver eligibility
  11. Theres no sure thing one will be gone by next season. Just because Ortio is on a one way doesn't mean he cant play in Adirondack, just means he gets paid the same either way. I see all 3 goalies in camp, to anoint Ortio to the big team is not only management suicide, but a slap in the face for players to see you can lose your job without so much as a competition. The only way i see any of these 3 getting traded prior to next season is if something is coming back . To let Ramo walk , also quite silly , hes proven he can play in this league, as a starter or backup is still up for debate, but im pretty sure theres a team or 2 he'd be the starter 1st day (look north for example) Remember , GOOD teams at any time have at least 3 goaltenders they are comfortable giving a start to on any day. look how many have gone down this year , and how many have come from the minors to have big games. After our 3 , who do we have you'd be comfortable starting in a game with the playoffs on the line? You go backwards by trading one right now
  12. That glove save tonight looked pretty Kipper-like to me!
  13. You speak as though hes gone already. The fact we have a guy on the farm running the net in Ortios absence whos only 1 injury away from being here, that nobody really knows, speaks volumes to the fact Ramo shouldnt be going anywhere.
  14. I dunno.. Current flames have actually made the statement that he's the closest thing to a kipper clone they have seen.. I would think they would know better than we would
  15. Because he's been the main piece of a tandem that has us knocking on the playoffs.you don't pull off 3rd period comebacks without slamming your own door. Mike Vernon was the king of "one soft goal per game " yet without him no cup in '89 Every goaltender let's in softies, even kipper had some beauties. The problem with goaltenders is every mistake is magnified.your best scorer doesn't score every game,Norris trophy winners probably get burned on at least one play per game but it's not the end of the world.any time a goalie makes a mistake a red light goes on and 20,000 people boo or cheer If you think for one second we are in this position with Leland Irving and Joey Macdonald you're mistaken. Somebody else said earlier and we're 100% correct that goalies are a reflection of their system, Devan Dubnyk being the perfect current example. The reason kipper was so good here so quick was the flames at the time were famous for getting behind early in the first then losing a one goal game. Kipper got us out of the first period. Right now we have that same problem but actually have the firepower to come back, but these goalies slam the door.for every goal, remember 5 other players need to make a mistake first.
  16. While im usually the first to protect a goalie behind the play of the team, and each of your points are correct in terms of bad team play not exactly helping his cause, that was definitely an egg laid by hiller in the 3rd. Really curious if he was playing with a new trapper though, seemed he couldnt close his mitt, and once anaheim noticed something and started attacking his catcher side he was done.typically his glove is a strong point. If that is the case, still not an excuse, practice is for equipment break in, not games. But it definitely looked stiff
  17. Lol! Good one! How true.. Maybe we can trade for Crawford real cheap. I mean Chicago must be very unhappy with their goaltending situation, and looking for a real nhl quality nhl tender after Crawford proved last night he doesnt belong in the league, whiffing on a center ice shot and all.
  18. Ill go on record right now and say Ramo resigns here, 2-3 yr deal.perhaps a trade occurs but only if Gillies goes pro
  19. Unfortunately after tonight he made the decision easy.i suspect he'll be sent back Thursday. Not because he lost a game, but because to force a stay he needed to be strong even in a loss.
  20. Hiller gets you best return, also clears 3 mill off the books.i also believe the difference in styles between ramo and Ortio is important, createsadvantage against different teams. Also, of the 2 Ramo has been more consistent in his game for us. Outside of the hot start, Ortio has allowed late backbreaking goals. You can argue team support, and i usually do, but facts are facts. With ramo I find you can get to him early, then he slams the door. Again its utterly ridiculous to trade any, but id feel less upset if it was Hiller.as a former goalie, I recognize chemistry and style and Ramo fits this team's style better.
  21. Aside from being highly overrated, thats the main reason I have never liked Tom Brady And as far as being part of the 2 goaltender rotation in Calgary, it is Ramos job, also why do we assume its Ramo? If we HAD to trade one it should be Hiller just due to long term continuity. But I still stand by my earlier stand that to trade any of the 3 would be an extreme mistake at this point
  22. what a beautiful problem to have. I admit the kid is making me more of a believer each and every game. While i agree he needs to keep playing as long as hes hot, and i also understand the ramifications around the "earn the right to play".. keeping him up decimates our farm, trading 1 also hinders a lot of development reality dictates he goes back , and helps us win a championship on the farm.. you also weaken your trade position if teams know we have to dump one.. but i admit I'm torn , the kid is earning the right to stay, what does it say to the farm kids when he plays lights out and gets sent back.. absolutely he plays Anaheim.. and at least a home game so we can appreciate him first hand.. but unfortunately in the big picture he needs to be sent back at some point. There's also the unwritten rule you dont lose your job due to injury But, like i said, what a beautiful problem to have ! gotta say , If Berra got us a 2nd, Ramo gets you at least that
  23. Just a total gut hunch, but I'm hoping he gets the anaheim start first.
  24. Agreed. Much too early. The only thing we are being shown right now is that our development at the goalie position is secure and on track. To earlly to be annointing or trading. Likely how this plays out is ortio goes back after the road trip, , possibly a home start. We finish the year with ramo and Hiller. Ramo gets resigned. No way we just let him walk Training camp next year determines our top 2. The sign to watch for is Gillies, if he signs one gets traded...if not then it gets interesting because its critical that Adirondack has a development goalie leading it We were able to trade Berra last year cuz Ortio is knocking, and even then had to go get Hiller. To trade ramo or Hiller now sets development back 2 years
