I have not decided how to evaluate Conroy yet.   But, I can say this:

I won't base it on how long it took him to start a rebuild.

Let's be honest, BT was the GM who stalled that.   And everyone loved him for it.    Some blamed owners.  Okay.    But can't apply different set of rules for Conroy then.

Fact is, Conroy did what was impossible for previous GM (so the rumors say).    Obviously, whoever pulls the trigger gets all the bad vibes and all the scrutiny.   But, at least a trigger has been pulled.  Nobody else could manage that until now.

I'll base my decision on on our pick/prospect pool after the trade deadline, and also what we come out of the draft with.     And...realistically, even that is very early to form an opinion (but I will anyway lol)

Good take ..there's no denying Bt activated a time bomb in the org and then left.. this many upper names expiring at the same time is a minefield .

To b somewhat fair..you can see what the roadmap was.. if not for significant events (chucky , Johnny, Monahan Injuries) this should have been the start or mid of a contending core..makes the shots at keeping these players or replacing them a lot higher ..but its not

Regardless of the actual value of these players , or how much of a bidding war you try and start.. Conny was dealing from weakness.. dealing with teams for late round picks or none at all  .. contenders don't typically have studs in the prospect pool and if they do they have very few and reluctant to move them .

That he was able to turn 5 assets Into 15 (17 if you count the waivers ) is to be commended

Even if this were true, which I don't think it would be because I don't assume the conditions today would exist then, you'd still have teams that would have more flexibility to deal then now. Vegas isn't going to give you a player off their roster at the deadline, no contending team is, but in the summer it's more flexible.

As a rule of thumb I always think its a mistake to trade players like Hanifin at the deadline. Should always deal higher end pieces like that in the summer to increase your suitors.

I do agree they should have all been gone in the summer ..  avoid the circus .. the chances of being in a good playoff spot at deadline ..

Thing is tho . He's had his price since summer .. I think teams were super low balling him . Cuz he was taking calls on all of them

Hopefully this is just a troll…hard no on Parayko too old Now for the team direction makes no sense

Nope can't find it now but it was a couple of The  b level (not Friedman) say theyre on the list of teams connected ... It's a long list..so I doubt it's likely..but they're kicking tires

I think they would have because while sure his agent was doing work I think also just the cirumstance shrunk the market. If I'm not a playoff team then i'm not interested but in the summer I may have been. I'm looking at a team like Buffalo. Makes no sense for them now to inquire about Hanifin but in the summer I think they would have been interested. I also think in the summer you get teams more willing to give up pieces off your roster.

I'm not suggesting he returns a haul but I think he gets you more. Only so much an agent can do when 23 teams actually can put a call in.

But again it likely has to be a team he's indiacated he's willing to resign with or the deal goes downhill.. in the summer it likely would have to be a sign and trade for the best return .. you'd be essentially dealing with his list of teams again

I can't say for sure that Hanifin would have generated more in the summer but I do think you would have had a longer list of suitors.

would you tho ?  We got hit by an agent and a player lowering the market price due to his only wanting to sign certain places.. that wouldn't have changed last summer. You'd still have teams not wanting to pay a ton for a player they know will walk in a year

Just like people saying wait for summer for Markstrom ( those who want to trade him )   dude has a full NMC... you only have the teams he's willing to go to

  6. Let's look at the positives ...

    - The don't wanna be here crew is all gone

    - the deck is stacked against the Oilers

    - hanifin flew to Tampa.. now he has to go to Vegas with the clothes in his suitcase..

    - if you put all the assets acquired in a big pile together , as a whole it's all a pretty good return

This is true, has endstrom been in there then we would have had a good return, this is junk…we’ll bare minimum to be honest with a lot more

hope on the picks…endstrom would have been ideal

So.. what you're saying is he took a worse return on purpose ?

Remember..all Vegas had to do was give the best offer .. that means the others were worse

On the positive side .. that was the last of the "had to trade them " club..  any future moves he holds the cards

And hey ..he stacked the deck against the oilers in the process..that's worth value too

Conroy is going to keep us in the murky middle. The team's goal is always compete, which is fine, but it is to just get in and anything can happen. These deals he's made all year are very much in that vein...

he is looking for near NHL ready players.

Somebody has to play here while the picks go in the pipeline. near ready players are like draft picks that have already have time to ripen a little

Ok now if they can confirm Endsrtom with the 1st and Miro…that’s a fair return, currently it’s a bit light…common confirm Endstrom already!

Like I've said ..be prepared to be underwhelmed ...but...it does sound like Connie is busting his hump to make this a solid return .with one of the smartest in the business across the table

It's still too early to make a determination.

But, yes. If Miromanov is a key piece (I would be surprised if he was) then it would be a real head scratcher. He looks like a player that will be headed back overseas this summer. A tweener.

For all we know . He's part of the 3rd team compensation..

But if not ...man Conroy really loves his Russians

Has there been any coroboration that the big Russian D is actually part of the deal?

Dreger says it, but only people re-tweeting him or saying they heard.

I'm always willing to accept what Friedman states as fact ..  so sounds like that's for sure..and a first ..
