  1. I have to agree, there is no reason to get to camp with guys that are not going to be part of the club. Once it gets to that point I your trending into very dangerous waters
  2. Clean hit keep your head up when you cut through the middle of the ice
  3. Michigan kid wanting to go home, It would appear OTT may have had no options in this trade. The fact that BT got what he got just tells me that the FLA GM knew the impact a Chucky would have and moved out to UFA's that they couldn't have afforded anyway. The first few years are polar opposites for each franchises, FLA to the SC final and our new found toys had defects lol
  4. Yeah, the trade is weak but if the player had only one place to go or of interest then he got as much as he would get. This is where the players have control of what goes on, the team has invested money, time and development to be held hostage to gain minimal return based on no leverage. What makes it difficult and this may sound like sour grapes, but franchises in smaller centers such as ours it places you in a hole to obtain and retain good players. You hope to draft and they stay but as we have seen 3 USA-born players have migrated to the US again. THe other issue ids college players such as Fox with us, deciding to not show up at camp. Frankly that rule should be abolished and you either play for the club that drafts you, unless traded or you are not allowed to play in the NHL
  5. But the big bad coach is gone... It was all Sutter or maybe it was only a small part of the issue. Change can be good and it can be bad it's what you make of it. So who has a crystal Fing ball to predict the next 8 years and how it's going to go? So just to clarify, he wants a term and a certain dollar amount and has been provided each but Nah needs to think about it, BS. Here is where I lose faith in the GM, grow a set stick to your guns let him know that the offer has been revoked, and if you trade his Hash Rate now. Conroy can not take this into the season, the temptation to hold on to these clowns will be too great.
  6. If NYR would be open to a Laferiane trade for Hanifin that would be something of interest, They are a little shallow on the D end. Laferiane has not done much, change could be what is needed.
  7. TO is going to have to either move Nylander or trade a few others to open space, One freedom Trevling has is no accountability for spending, it is an open vault.
  8. Phillips deal is one way. He most likely starts on the 3rd line
  9. One theme that is different with this year's draft choices all the forwards are over 6 feet with room to grow. All have skill potential and upside. The lack of movement in trades is mind-boggling, we will see how this all plays out but it appears this draft is far far coveted than most years. My concern right now is with Hanifn, Lindholm, Vldar, and Backs. It appears our options for this year's draft picks is non-existent. All that is left is a hockey trade. If we can get a return such as Dubois brought back then great but who's your dance partner? If we are also in on Duclair there is no way we send Hanifin there unless there is a HUGE ++++ coming back with Duclair.
  10. There has to be something we are missing. I sure hope this kid turns out as high as they had him. What will be absolutely depressing is if Conroy doesn't trade off the Hanifin for a draft pick in the 1st, So far this has been pure underwhelming as far as making the club better.
  11. Well could be a good balance, the way this is looking we have rookie or limited coaches with NHL experience for virtually a rookie or minimally experienced roster.
  12. This is where Conroy can make a statement as well, things are going to change. I am on the side of this is a positive thing for this organization. The Hanifin for Duclair trade is stupid frankly, it's actually laughable. Going after Duclair I can understand but under no way is that an equal swap, that's a huge Fing win for FLA. Also what is interesting is we have a mass exodus as i thought the big bad coach was the only issue. The fact you allow the inmates to run the asylum this is what you get, you give them what they wanted but yeah I want more. We all know this club is nowhere near a contender, personally, I like Kadri as a player but have to believe that 90% of the issues we have now are because of him. The other issue is you have players that are aging out and this is not a club that is going to win a cup anytime soon. Lindy, Hanifin, Backs, and Toffoli can cash out for that I don't blame them. So now trade them out. If we can get 2-3 first-rounders for these guys this year then do it. What pisses me off the most is Trevling , he screwed this club so far into the ground before he left. This all was a calculated move and why he was not returning, rant over. So is there a possible way to move up in the draft to a top 3-5 spot? I keep going back to CLB and the 3rd overall. To CLB Lindholm, Zadorov CGY 1st CGY CLB # 1st (3) CLB 2nd Sillinger and roster player to balance the numbers Adding Zadorov and Gubranson back together with the adds they have made makes CLB a way better team. If CLB is in a win now situation and Lindy would sign yeah this moves the neddle fast for them
  13. So IMHO the issues just run deeper. Older players want to win younger guys looking at the team, coach, and team going I like my chances elsewhere. As much as I would prefer we just wave the white towel and try to rebuild, have to agree with Peeps, it going to be a retool with Satoshi Nakamoto contracts with Bubble gum to plug the holes in the dam once again. So what are these guys worth in a sign and trade or trade right now; Could we get 4 firsts for Lindholm, Backs, Hanifin and Toffoli?
  14. First off, let's address the elephant in the room or the removed white elephant. Players pissed and moaned about the removal of the coach and now they give the team the middle finger salute, inmates running the asylum. IMHO this goes back to Trevling, and his knowledge of things. You can not tell me or convince me that he had ZERO knowledge of this. I call BS, The man just sewered Conroy and the Flames. Secondly, this now puts you into a rebuild mode, you are insane to try to retool this. You now have 2 top 6 Centers and a top 4 dman leaving, but it won't stop there. How many more will say I didn't sign up for this Satoshi Nakamoto, Kadri and Hubie, Weegar were sold this would be a competitive team. Toffoli, Tanev, and Markstom all will be going WTF is going on here and get me out? Frankly, Trevling is a POS in my eyes. He left this club in a worse mess than when he got here.
  15. I was one that was in Love's corner but from a reflective view looking at this, Conroy is right. Take a role as an assistant, and get acclimated to the lifestyle and league. Showcase your talents and if he is that effective in an organization, he will be moving up faster than one thinks. Taking an assistance job in the NHL is not a horizontal movement, it is a vertical movement. Much like the players he coached in the A, give him a chance and show me what you got. Sometimes we elevate so fast that one can be overwhelmed, this was the sense that a new GM got from the interview process with Love, pretty sure the veteran GM's would have the same read. Being pissy about not getting the Head Coaches' job could come back to bite him as well. Sometimes it's how you react to adversity that sets up for success. The fact he was even considered is a HUGE compliment, be honored for the suggestion and look at this as a massive opportunity to get to the end goal.
  16. Brother, I hear what you're preaching Unfortunately that's not how this ship is sailed, unfortunately. The mandate is to win and get in, which is why we squander in mediocrity. What your wanting to do makes sense but the only way I see this club going into a retool or rebuild is if Lindholm & Backs are not resigned, then you have no option. If this is what you wish for then all you need is for those 2 to decide they will not resign.
  17. Hanifin reminds me a lot of Ekblad you are always left wanting more. Based on what you're providing right now Hanifin is a better option than Poirier, Kuznetsov, and Kylington. With Kylington you're placing a lot of pressure on a guy that god only knows why he never returned last season to be a game-changer. Now am I for trading Hanifin for sure, but it all depends on the return. What does he bring back, Columbus seems to be doing a huge retool, they could be an option. The only way you move Hanifin is to free up cap space and hopefully get a top 6 forward, that's it. When you look at our roster and the contracts the white elephant is the 5.8 to Mags is ridiculous. In reality, we need to move cap space to create roster space. We have no 4th line anymore, the only guy we have is Duher at RW.
  18. I am on the fence with Hanifin currently. For years I was for trading him but we have to look at the intangibles. He is 25 plays 22+ minutes, 30+ point guy, and is a top-four D man. We don't have anyone in the system that can fill those shoes and the UFA market as mentioned is dismal. Now could we get a haul for him you bet we could. In any trade, you're going to need a roster Dman back and at least a top 6 forward or projected top 6 players in any trade with Hanifin. Based on ager minutes and points I think we regress further by moving him than resigning him
  19. Well after the presser I am more intrigued with Huska than before. He has done his research and seems to be a student of the game. Liked the fact is he doesn't come across as I am better than others but that others have made him better. He reminds me of the individual that just sits in the back quietly makes notes on what works and what doesn't and quietly creates his own book on what has worked and doesn't work and has somewhat of a blueprint in what he has seen via others and other teams. He articulates well, is direct and clear has a very good ability to make it understandable the first time. Will have to say I sway more to the side of this was the better hire over Love. I like Love as a coach and agree with Conroy that he will be an NHL coach one day. Also, agree a year or two as an assistant to get accumulated to the travel, big contract babies you have to deal with, refs, etc will be invaluable. For Love to even make it this far in the process is a huge compliment to his skill set. He should not take this as a negative but as a motivational advantage as he got noticed far faster than most. Learning some more grow and becoming better is far better than thinking I am going to get pissed off and leave cause I didn't get my way. A couple of years in the NHL as an assistant show the world what you can do we know how well he did as Wranglers HC. The hard and most important part for Huska right now is to align yourself with really good system coaches for offense, PP, and PK. That and the respect in the room from some of the players. Conroy made mentioned that he reached out to some key players for feedback on the hire. We will see what Lindholm does as he is number one to retain.
  20. I keep hearing Huska. So what massive revelation, game structure, and knowledge does he bring forth that makes him the best option to win a cup? Oh, he's a nice guy, hmmm you know what they say about nice guys? This is a safe hire IMHO, but if this is Conroy's first order of business, his crystal ball is better than most. I just don't see Huska as a driving force to move the needle, I could have seen Love get the chance. There is NO ONE from inside that coach's room that should have stayed after Sutter left. So we now have a coach that has won NOTHING to lead a bunch of guys that BTCed and moaned about the last guy, this just seems like another country club hires for the soft boys club, WELCOME TO CGY, the organization that exemplifies the term mediocrity
  21. For there are players that get you in the playoffs and those who excel in the playoffs. Goaltending outside of Kipper has been a huge low spot here, Nest is top-end talent either on a wing or in the middle. The one thing that has always stroked me the wrong way is " best D on paper" But they turn out to be dog crap at best. We have some currently good centerman but outside of that its a crap shoot. I would venture to guess Huberdeau will be better or at least his mouth indicates he should be. Kadri lost a lot of respect for him after the CHI game, that was utterly embarrassing. For goaltending as good as Wolf maybe at the A level, I think expectations are he is going to get rocked when he comes to the show. I would not be surprised if he is traded, although I would like to give the kid a chance. We have 3 goalies two fo which was supreme garbage this year and one won the tender of the year and MVP, who do you move out because someone has to go.
  22. Oh, the style will change but will the results. We don't have the elite players to outscore anyone, and if we play that system our Defensive structure is beyond porus and with poor goaltending yikes. We are not an elite team, like it or not Sutter wasn't wrong with his we don't have game changers, we lost both of them. Not sure who the coach will be but IMHO this season will be hard to watch as well. New systems and style this could be a tire fire
  23. But that said we had the core parts and the draft selections that everyone is been commenting on. We may have never tanked but we did go into a rebuild rushed or not it has been done in the past few years. The fact is the complementary players and selections to move to the next level, yeah that was an epic fail.
  24. Really we did go through a rebuild unfortunately you had the wrong engineer constructing this. Once again we had a 2- top six picks with Monahan and Chucky a 4th with Bennett, 11 th with Valimaki and we got a gem in the 4th round with Gaudreau. We had Norris trophy winner in GIo and we won NOTHING. Currently, we are left with nothing in a top forward, we don't have the game changer or the guy that moves you to the edge of your seat. I loved what Trotz's said to his scouts " Finding or getting a 3rd 4th liner we can get any time, find me the guy that brings you out of your seat, take some risks" . Trevling is well respected for being a classy guy, but really what has he left us with as a GM. We all would have taken what he got in return for Chucky, but in IMHO it should have never gotten to that point. All the focus was on JG and the real franchise guy is or was Chucky. He is the one the drags a team into battle. Some will say this couldn't have been avoided I call BS. The attention and focus were misdirected to Matthew from a management level.
  25. I actually watched both series and all the games except one. Their best line was badly outplayed. Was the top line good nope and Phillips, Pelts, and Zary got leveled more than once in the 1st series, especially Phillips. They all were moved off the puck easily and out-battled every game. Say or believe what you wish, but size matters in these games and usually prevails. It's not to say they are bad players, however, they will lose a board battle or open ice hit to a guy that is 4-6 inches taller and 40-60 pounds heavier.
