  1. Because of their need at center, when I looked at the teams rumored to be on Hanifin I think there were 2 plan As for the Flames. Can you get Poitras out of Boston Can you get Lundell out of Florida If you can get 1 of those 2 pieces plus a pick or 2 you've done well IMO. No idea if there is validity to this or not but I think you are doing well if you get Poitras from Boston.
  2. Not a doctor nor do I know the scope of the injury but given he is a future piece that doesn't change my opinion of it. I can see where it feels underwhelming but as I've said for a while I don't think Hanifin is viewed the same outside of Calgary as he is here, or by some fans.
  3. That's actually more than I thought Hanifin would return so I personally would not find that underwhelming. I can understand where Poitras is overhyped but i still consider him a high end prospect. I don't think he's a top line guy but I think you've got yourself a potentially really good middle 6 center there. That and a first is a good return for a pending UFA IMO.
  4. You'd have to. Player is not going to agree to waive until the trade is done because part of the wavier is are you going to let me keep my clause. As i said, you can have a preliminary discussion but you likely don't get the final wavier until the deal is finished.
  5. Agreed. They are IMO the most overrated team in the league. they have about 5-6 good/interesting pieces surrounded but a whole lot of meh and roster filler to me. They also have some of the worst goaltending in the league. They are not that close IMO.
  6. I think there is room for both to be true. The ask to waive a clause is formal and requires the player to actually sign off on it and I don't think any player is going to do that until the deal is agreed upon and the destination known. Clearly this trade never got to this point. there is also the more general "hey we are either looking to move your or are we receiving calls from team x, we want to pursue are you ok with that". This would not be binding so player would reserve the right to still axe the deal if they wanted but it would give the team some confidence to pursue a deal. IMO that's why you have conflicting reports here. Markstrom was never asked to waive the clause because no deal was made but doesn't mean there was never a conversation between he and the Flames.
  7. I think it’s very premature to bring ownership into this. I think it’s clear they’ve talked but as clear they haven’t settled on a price. Rumors are Devils are wanting a big chunk of markstroms contract retained and Conroy is driving a hard bargain to get them to compensate the flames for that retention. is he asking too much? Time will tell but it’s too early to point fingers imo.
  8. Yeah it’s not. Nashville hasn’t committed to moving Saros where flames are open on Markstrom. Weeks ago it was reported Devils were looking at a few goalies Not saying it will happen but I don’t think it’s dead.
  9. You'd be better off using Andersson I think. Skeptical you could do it but I think if your going that route you need a bidding war, that's my point. Andersson would give you that and Weegar won't.
  10. Boston has a a healthy points cushion but wonder if this picks up their rumored interest of Hanifin. I think if the Flames are going to deal Hanifin it shouldn't wait until the deadline. if it does that would suggest the market isn't as robust as we think.
  11. I actually think Weegar would waive to go to Ottawa, there were rumors of him wanting that prior to Florida dealing him. I just don't think he'd waive anywhere else so it becomes a scenario where Ottawa gets to name their price and not the Flames which limits the return. That' the best against yourself part. If no other team can acquire Weegar the Flames don't really get to name their price. I don't think NHL GMs place the value on RS dmen that you do. All for nothing though because I think the Flames have zero plans to trade Weegar.
  12. That's on Conroy if they do. Hanifin only has an 8 team no trade where Iggy had a full NMC. Conroy has plenty of other opportunities to try and drive the price up. There should be no getting backed into a corner. No i'm sure Seravelli doesn't lie but I also think he slants things quite a bit. This is the same guy who went out of his way to try and convince people that Hart's and Dube's absence had nothing to do with the WJ scandal. He's had to walk himself back on a number of fronts recently, especially with the Flames. I personally take Seravelli with a big grain of salt these days TB lottery picked the picks they sent Nashville for Tanner Jeannot so i think your going to have a bear of a time trying to get them to give you unprotected 1st in 2026. You can make an OK trade with Tampa. I do like Isaac Howard. Names like Jack Thompson and Ethan Gauthier are interesting names. Couple that with a few dice rolls like goalie Amir Miftakahov Or Jason Shaugabay you might be able to squeeze a quantity style deal. so something like: Jannott Howard Gauthier Thompson Draft pick Isn't good but it's not terrible. For sure the Flames should be wanting to deal with other teams but Tampa may be more willing to throw pieces in the deal with their window.
  13. So Ottawa is going to bid only against themselves and still give up a top 10 pick? Not going to happen IMO. I sure as heck woudln't do that if I were them. I don't think Ottawa is a RS dman away from making this all work nor are they in a situation where if they don't win nest year or the year after things will crumble. So why are they going to massively overpay for someone? I love Weegar but I think giving up a top 10 pick for a soon to be 30 year old man with a big contract is not good management. Can look for RS dman elsewhere. Also worth pointing out that the Sens have to forfeit one of the 1st round picks of the next 3 drafts.
  14. Which is exactly why they are not going to give you a top 10 pick They don't need to
  15. Probably a good time to point out that Weegar has a full NTC
  16. not much. Weak prospect pool and no first rounder for the next 2 years. Even some of the roster players they might give up don’t fit what what the flames are doing. I’m looking at Tanner Jeannot who hasn’t been a good fit, so I could see them be willing to include him but that's not a ton of value for the Flames as he's 26 and UFA in 2 years. I agree that Tampa doesn't make alot sense. I also don’t see how Tampa can sign him long term. They are already committed to 76 mill next year with no Stamkos and only 16 players. I don’t see the upside for the flames. Feel like that is Seravelli pushing some kind of message there.
  17. This doesn't really impact trade mechanics. Vanacek is on IR in order to clear the spot for Siegenthaler (they don't have other means of clearing the spot without sending down a player) and the reason it's retroactive is to meet the criteria of IR. I would not view this as related to any potential trade, this is simple roster mechanics.
  18. Kerins showing up here in his first full AHL season. I understand he's been pretty up and down but it's nice to see some impact is there. Possibility he's on the radar in the next season or 2. Stromgren over Stankoven continues to look puzzling for the Flames.
  19. I’ve only seen Kuzmenko live once but it didn’t take long to see why he wound up in the dog house in Vancouver. His play away from the puck is pretty bad
  20. My strategy with Andersson is can you use him to extract good young pieces. I don’t think you shop Andersson for picks, you try and leverage a team to give up good young players. Buffalo has a lot of centers can you get one? Would Necas be in play? don’t trade him for a futures deal trade him to get a piece or two that can be part of your core in 2-3 years time. Doesn’t have to be at the deadline but I think the flames 100% should be listening intently on him
  21. it’s an interesting one. I think the reason Boston is in there is it’s a place Hanifin would sign with so brings in the sign and trade. I agree it’s not a place the flames probably want to deal with but can you extract more? I think if you can get Poitras I’d be fine with less picks/return because that’s a pretty key piece. But if Boston won’t put him in the deal I would rather see more picks.
  22. I agree. I think this TDL is the time to be trading Markstrom and I wouldn’t wait. if prefer to move him now and even take a little below my top offer than run the risk of him getting injured it performance suffering and losing his value. Be shocked if he is a flames past the deadline
  23. After Friedman reported that initial talks cooled it sounds like the Devils called back and re engaged. The offer changed which is what Thursday night the smoke really picked up that they were close, or maybe even had a done deal.
