  1. Both Brett Hull and St Louis played some games in NHL for Flames before we traded them away. We knew what they were able to bring to the team. Bennett you are trading before he has played a game for us and on spec that his shoulder "might" be a constant problem for his career....
  2. He is long term Oiler reporter but... I don't see us going hard over Kessel at least hard with our prospect pool. Money only maybe, but a bunch prospects? no I would not want to see that at all. Of those mentioned I would not be too happy to see Poirier or Gilles involved in any trade for Kessel. I am just not ready for them to go without some NHL time under their belt.
  3. While this looks good for the Flames do you really think that Arizona would agree to this trade? or even consider it a serious offer?
  4. He has really upped his game since playing with Wideman regular. I like those two as our second pairing too. As a combo they are almost perfect together for this role. A lot of people prefer to single them out instead of look at their work as a pairing. I would rather we upgrade our bottom pairing to better help our other pairings minutes. I think that is where our upgrades should happen right now.
  5. Hiller has been giving us elite goaltending. He started off among the top at the beginning of the season and lately has been giving us elite goaltending(pens game aside)
  6. I think a good case can be made that the Flames have probably the second best top 4 D in the league. I look at St Louis and think they have the best top 4, but I can't think of another team with a better top 4 than us. You can't make changes because one of our top 4 might go down. You make additions and add or have depth. It is too expensive and we can not afford to go shopping for a top 4 D that likely isn't going to be an upgrade to what we have now. Russel and Wideman have good chemistry. Gio and Brodie have show they might be the best pairing in the league... debatable but they are close... Philly has been trying for years to get a top 4 D to build around.. it is near impossible...
  7. Well for the first time in years i tuned in the game. Some of it. Is there actually anyone who enjoys this type of hockey?? I've seen lots of football with lower scores...

It's like watching an extremely large Anaconda vs Alligator in a fight to death. When you see the alligator get put in the squeeze you know what the outcome is going to be, but you find yourself watching out of the corner of your eye until the grand finale.

  8. We are in a fine position. Not many teams can say they have 3 goalies capable of being a starting goaltender. Look at the Oilers and how they have been struggling with 2 backups goalies. Now tell me we don't have good options??? Our goalie situation is a big plus for us to have 3 of them competing with more highly rated, up and coming in the near future..
  9. Gillies is my favorite of all of them and the one I am most optimistic about. I have thought he has the highest potential since we drafted him. That string of shutouts last season confirmed it somewhat.
  10. tosses 2 cents into the collection box at the door of this room... Hillar is the #1 and starter for this team this year. I doubt he will be traded even though he has the biggest return value atm. Ramo is most likely to be traded if the Flames feel they need to trade one of our goalies. Ortio is still the only one who can be sent down without having to clear waivers. He is only an injury call up, so expect him to be sent back down after he has had his exhibition here. JJ has been singing the praises of Ortio all year after his slow start. Kudos to JJ and you are not even being smug about it...
  11. Seems the almost starter/starter goalies are worth about a 3rd round pick these days.
  12. The Wild need a goaltender too. Enroth is said to be their current target.
  13. I was thinking maybe they played a joke on him and cranked up the tension on his bike..
  14. I would "do it" but not using any of our core. Kessel is a rare talent and proves it every year. He is still young enough to fit here in our rebuild. I do not think we have the pieces to offer for him though. Teams like the Oilers with Yakapov have more attractive higher draft pick pieces that they could offer. I don't think this present leadership groups on the Flames will allow him to become a cancer as some suggest. Just don't place him in that position of influence.
  15. Interesting thoughts, however if the Flames decided to go back to alternating goaltenders, the fans here would crucify the coaching. They have their favorite goalie and if they had a good game would want to see him in again. (eg Ramos two shutout streak.) can you imagine if they pulled Ramo after two shutouts?
  16. and we just hired a special skating coach for prospects like this.
  17. testing... http://www.tsn.ca/video/th2n-flames-defence-leads-the-way-1.125673 http://www.tsn.ca/video/th2n-flames-defence-leads-the-way-1.125673 Well the ads are built in at the tsn level. I could re-record it after the ad is done but this is copywrited stuff and it is illegal to do that without their permission.
  18. 1 away from being the goal leader "for defensemen" that accomplishment is held by another Flame. 3 of the Flames Defensemen are in the top 15 goals scorers in the NHL.
  19. You are not being fair to Wideman Cross.. He only has 3 years left on his contract so why are you worrying about him 2-3 years down the road, fitting in the future plans when he could easily be gone by then. He is playing well right now and we don't have the depth at D to replace him even with any of our prospects.
  20. What I like is that when Wideman has confidence and plays like he is right now... We have a good 3-4 combo in Wideman - Russell That makes for a decent top 4 D. No one would have thought that about the Flames D during preseason.
  21. Anyone questioning the goaltenders performance so far this year.. should look elsewhere... both have been very very good.
  22. I don't care if you guys view Hiller as a backup or a potential starter. I don't think the Flames care either. The Flames have always looked at our goal tending as a group. Last year the group consisted of JMac, Berra and Ramo.(fight it out guys for starting goalie) They start this coming season with a goal tending tandem of Hiller and Ramo. Obvious upgrade to last years group and the Flames addressed the concerns just about everyone here had of a possible Ramo/JMac combo to start this season.
  23. 1-2 Ramo / Hiller Hiller / Ramo Does it matter who is #1 or #2? Why not have strong competition for the goaltenders position? Very strong combo if Hiller can regain his previous form. He has been considered among top 5 goaltenders in the league.
  24. Fixed that for you. I know I keep wanting to say Abby or the Heat too...
