  1. It must have been the other kehatch that directly asked me this question then: or were you quoting me and intending that statement/question for someone else? You were the one who said he was getting elite goaltender minutes, not me. I simply gave you the most likely answer why in that he is the goaltender of the 3(Berra, Ramo JMac) who the coaches feel gives us the best chance to win. I already addressed earlier that Ramo has a 2 year contract. What is the rush? We haven't played a 3rd of the season yet or even a 6th of his contract. We were told at the beginning of the year that there are 3 goaltenders in the running for the starting goaltenders job here. They seem to be dividing it up pretty even atm. yet you are getting your panties all in a bunch all hyped up over the fact Berra has got his pretty much all in a row. Ramo has twice as many games in his contract to prove his worth. Berra has half the games that Ramo has. There is nothing elite about it. When you start talking Glenn Hall numbers of consecutive games started then lets talk about elite ratios of starts. Edit: Man this is frustrating. When you go back into a post to edit it you lose all the quote boxes and a lot of the highlighting stuff. In this case I had everything all sperated and quoted properly but when I went back in to highlight something all the quote boxes disappeared. To distinguish who said what I now ended up putting in my replies in red above
  2. Lets be serious here kehatch. I did not say Berra is being given elite status you did... and you expect me to "back up" your statement. LMFAO Nice try however... Elite starter load...that would be really funny if you didn't have to chose some obscure methodology("a ratio of starts higher") to try and make your point. Who the hell uses ratio of starts to judge anything?????? Cold hard fact is Berra ranks 35th overall in starts among all NHL goaltenders. Ramo is presently 2 games behind but will be 1 behind after next game.(He happens to be starting next game). What I really said was Maybe you should simmer down and think before you post, instead of trying to put words in my mouth, this has nothing to do with the other goalies and how many games they are or aren't getting. It appears to me that Hartley is simply trying to win games. Novel concept eh?? A coach trying to win as many games as he can by playing in the best chance(goaltender) he thinks might get the job done. Talk about cutting edge thinking.... Thinking outside the box.... Personally I could care less when Ramo got his last start. I suspect Hartley doesn't think much about it either, except in back to back situations and he still probably runs it by the other coaches first, then decides. Edit: On this discussion of Elite starts status or ratios: Maybe we should let Berra get a few more games than 11 under his belt before we start talking about elite anything..
  3. None of the goalies has played lights out and I don't see where or how you would think that they should or would be likely to. There is no doubt in my mind which goalie has played the best and offered the Flames the best chance to win. We are not even a 3rd through the season and you guys are flying off the handle because Ramo has been getting sporadic starts. I can only think of 1 game (late Oct against LA) that stands out that he deserved his getting another followup game start.
  4. Not sure what your rush is. We have Ramo on a 2 year contract / time frame to find out what he has to offer and only 1 year with Berra. Seems the better strategy to find out what Berra has to offer first doesn't it? As for those who say Berra is getting preferential treatment I beg to differ. Presently Berra has only played 2 more games than Ramo has. Hardly favoritism over 25 games played so far this season.
  5. Confirmed fan 960 Berra gets the start in St Louis. *the team that drafted him 106th overall.*
  6. Listening to the call-ins on Fan 960 no one is hanging Berra out to dry tonight. In fact many are making a point of saying he shouldn't be blamed at all for the score tonight. Personally I have made no decisions one way or the other but during the 2nd intermission Wes Walz(Former flame/Minny etc and played overseas) was the interview. He said to pass on a message to the Calgary Fans. It went like this: I had not heard of Reto Berra before so when Calgary picked him up I had to ask around overseas about him. Tonight was apparently the first night he had a chance to see him play. He said don't worry Flames Fans this is your #1 Goaltender you are searching for. High praise from someone paid to help make judgements on players like this. I won't go as far as to say he will be our starter or Kipper replacement it is way too soon for that, but I really like what I see. I don't go heavy into the stats like JJ does, and I don't get to see the Heat games much live. I have watched him a bit on some feeds this website does not want whispered around. He has good fundamentals from what I can see. I'll side with C_W's comment to let it play out. A lot more than 2 games please. Isn't this season what we have the full 82 games to find out which of the 3 goalies in the running who are qualified or not?
  7. You are most welcome to discuss the goalies in the goalie threads but that wasn't my point. I made mention of the multiple times you have made the point that Berra has been pulled. Have you actually watched a Heat game? Have you not seen the interviews with Troy Ward who just recently stated that Berra has given the Heat a chance to win most nights? It kind of destroys this picture you are trying to paint of Berra playing bad by mentioning over and over that he has been pulled a couple of times this year. I understand it is that you want to promote Ortio as your goalie of choice but how many times do you have to do it on a couple of Berra failures?? Are we readers that naive that we can't understand what you wanted to say the "first time"?? and that it needs mentioning in multiple threads and over and over and over and over and over again? It is bordering on insulting to me JJ, so understand this, I got your feelings the first time you mentioned it and I understood where you were coming from and why you feel that way.
  8. It must matter to you JJ because you bring up your "axe to grind towards Berra being pulled in a couple of games" any chance you get. We also all got your mancrush on Ortio the first time you mentioned his superior play in the minors and the time after that, and your subsequent 200 gazillion times you have mentioned it since in this thread and the Ortio thread. Personally if any goalies confidence is that fragile that one poor/bad game would break him(like JJ's example of Ortio) then he likely isn't the goaltender we are looking for. I for one would rather see what he can do against higher level competition like Chicago.
  9. Oilers are getting poor goaltending from all their goalies. They have had some injuries too, most recent was last night when Bachman went down with a groin injury. DD was out with some minor injury. When you are talking Oilers this is more of an indication of dreadful D. They have more problems but those are covered in the Oilers thread. http://oilers.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=689757
  10. I am waiting in anticipation to see what game Berra brings to the table. Troy ward has some nice things to say about his compete level and his ability so far this season to give the boys a chance to win.
  11. The All you need to know is how difficult it has been for the Oilers to get some form of starting goaltending. They were said to be among the teams making offers for both Bernier and Schneider. They have more assets and don't need the draft picks as much as we need ours. I would think that us finding or trading for a decent starter is remote at best. Anyone with depth at this position is hanging on for dear lie to all of them or asking way to much in exchange atm.
  12. Was listening to Fan 960 pregame and Troy Ward was talking about Berra and how he has played really well for the Heat. He said that Berra has given them a chance to win just about every night. Considering how Troy ward refused to compliment Irving last season and changed the subject to Taylor and Brust when asked about Irving, this praise for Berra is nice to hear. I'll temper my hopes until we see him up here later. Fan 960 was speculating around Christmas or so we might see him unless JMac or Ramo play lights out.
  13. Berra let in 3 goals in 9 shots tonight for Heat. Ortio relieved and let in 1 goal in 18 shots(fan960). Heat win 5-4. Not sure what to make of this except that JJ will be pleased to hear this... more ammo to his points.
  14. Well I have pretty much been on the fence towards the goaltenders. I have made up my mind it is pretty senseless to throw anyone under the bus this early in the season **. Our goalies haven't been lights out and they haven't really been terrible yet either. Ramo played well tonight however. Well enough to deserve another start. Maybe if he can string a few good games together we can do what Hartley has envisioned for this team this season. Compete for a playoff spot for those that missed that message. ** Well maybe the Oiler fans can continue to throw both their goaltenders under their Oiler Bus but that is a different story & thread*
  15. So let me get this straight.. You of all people are calling me out for spelling Reto as Rito???? This from the guy who couldn't even get straight "who is Reto Berra" & who is "Laurent Brossoit"?? The same guy who had problems with the difference between the OHL and the WHL and which league the Ottawa 67's played in?? Great !!! I will remember that JJ and make note of this for next time you make a trivial spelling mistake. I'm not going to bother reading the rest of your post because if you have to start a post out with a 1 letter spelling mistake then there isn't much content worthy of reading to follow.
  16. There are 3 potential Starters for the Flames. They only want 2 of them on the Flames competing at one time. Those 3 are: Joey Mac Karri Ramo Rito Berra ATM Rito Berra is "the starter on the Heat" so he gets lots of icetime. It doesn't matter if you think that Laurent Brossoit or Ortio should be starting on the Heat they want to give the older guys the first go at the starter position here. If Berra gets called up then Ramo will be the automatic starter for the Heat. I don't see the Flames sending JMac down as he would have to clear waivers. Soon as you realize what they are doing and why they are doing it you can drop your mancrush on Ortio and realize he will get his shot at the Heat but not likely this year. He is not destined to get any shots at the Flames until they are done with 1 or more of these 3. It is simple to understand here JJ. Ortio can be backup for the Heat or start for the Alaska Aces. Take your pick and send a email off to the Flames, then lets quit with the complaining.
  17. Those of you complaining about giving Ramo 5.5m over 2 years should consider that likely we wouldn't have him here without paying him somewhere around that much. While I don't know how much he was making in the KHL I suspect it was a similar or maybe higher figure. Geos: The conversation probably went more like.. Feaster: So what is it going to take to get Ramo over here? Agent: Well he is making almost 3mil a year now. Feaster: Would he consider 5mil/2yrs? Agent: make it 5.5 for 2 years and that will cover his costs of moving over here and unsettling his family.
  18. Ramo gets the next start in SJ. Source: Peter Maher Fan 960 Rest of the lineup will be the same, including Jackman and Butler.
  19. All I have ever asked of the Flames is win or lose put in a decent effort each and every night.... I am a "Happy Flames Fan".

If we avoid the high probability of a lottery pick I would consider year 1 of the rebuild a success

Been a long time coming deed, too bad we didnt see this effort while the "Super Stars" were still in charge.

  20. I'm chuckling at some people around here. They already seem know that the Flames are incapable of developing the goalies in the system, so won't ever make the team. Or they want their flavor of the week to get starts when the coaches have already said the better of the bunch will get the starts. Too much hookinging and complaining going on around here if you ask me, considering we haven't recorded a regulation loss yet. I said it last year and stand by my opinion that this is our goaltender of the future: Everyone else in the meantime has to figure out how to get past the "replacing Kipper" tag.
  21. There is no doubt in my mind that over and above the good play that another good reason JMac is playing is because the whole team really likes the guy and will play hard for him. We found that out when JMac had to play multiple games when Kipper got hurt.
  22. We are on the verge of setting a team season starting record and you are complaining about the goaltender who has played us through most of that record? Sigh go figure....
  23. Fan 960 mentioned that Hartleys favorite of the 3 is Berra. He knows him and his abilities from the Swiss league. That contradicts all the talk about the Hartley playing favorites?? Hartley also mentioned the starter is decided among all the coaches. That indicates to me that "losses" aren't the only parameter in deciding who gets the next start.
  24. I don't see any problem. Ramo is signed for 2 years and will give the Flames lots of time to find out if he is capable of taking the "starting goalie ball" and running with it. What is everyones hurry to get him lots of starts in now ?? Worst case is he gets delegated to backup or sent to Abby for some icetime.(Berra is supposedly playing very well down there so far.) I have not heard anything about favoritism and have in fact heard it is a combined group decision on which goalie gets the next start. As far as I have seen JMac has earned each start with good play. Ramo has not made any highlight reel stops in his start in Washington but JMac has made them in each of his games(especially the last 2 games.) In my eyes JMac is hand down "winner" of who is hot and playing better. Note: I am not ragging on Ramo he has played well just nothing to set him apart or deserving over JMac in getting the next start decisions.
  25. When we re-signed JMac he was told he would get a shot at the starter goalie position. Anyone who says he is just a backup or does not deserve a chance at starting wasn't paying attention back when we signed him and/or hasn't been paying attention to the fine & high level of play he has shown the past few games.(ie highlight reel type saves)
