  6. Calgary Flames coach Darryl Sutter is known for being a taskmaster -- and often acerbic. As his team prepares to play host to the St. Louis Blues, though, Sutter is preaching from the other side of the pendulum while his team tries to snap a four-game winless slide. The Flames, who are coming off a 4-3 shootout loss to the Vancouver Canucks on Wednesday, have lost their last three games in extra time. However, Sutter is quick to point out his squad is 3-1-3 in its last seven outings and could just as easily be riding a winning spree driving them up the standings. "The difference is the difference maker, right?" Sutter said. "You get to the extra or late opportunities, whether it's a power play or overtime or shootouts. ... That's where your best players have to be difference makers, for sure." Certainly goal scoring has been an issue for the Flames during their recent struggles. Calgary has managed nine goals in its last four games. "It's a long year, and I think it's just important to keep those emotions balanced," center Nazem Kadri said. "We like some of the things we do out there, but ultimately you'd like to finish the job. Those bounces are going to bounce in our favor eventually. "You just have to keep your chin up. It's a long season and getting down on yourself or thinking you're better than you are, both sides of the spectrum can be dangerous. With some experience, you learn that. And I think we have the right attitude in here." The Blues arrive in the Stampede City on the heels of a wild 4-3 shootout win over the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday. The Blues scored twice in the third period, including Vladimir Tarasenko's game-tying tally with 20 seconds remaining. The Oilers even had an overtime goal disallowed because of an offside call before Jordan Kyrou scored the lone shootout goal to cap a night in which he netted one goal and two assists. "It's one of those wins we'll remember moving forward," goaltender Jordan Bennington said. Certainly, it was memorable right from the start. The Blues were penalized for starting a wrong player, with Brayden Schenn listed as a starter but Brandon Saad instead on the ice at puck drop. The Oilers scored on the ensuing power play. "Weird stuff was happening all game long," Kyrou said. "You've just got to stay with it and keep battling."Sure, it was a weird game for the Blues -- who have won two straight, both in extra time. But that can be said of the whole season. St. Louis started the season with three victories before sputtering through an eight-game losing skid. A seven-game winning streak followed before a 2-7-1 stretch dropped the Blues to 12-15-1 before winning their last two games. A couple of wins is a boost for a Blues team that has won six of the last seven meetings with the Flames. "We need to keep doing this consistently, our checking and our work ethic," Kyrou said. "As long as we continue to do that, we're going to start winning more games here." --Field Level Media
  7. Flames Blues Goaltenders We are going to win tonight.... RIGHT !!!!
  8. About time the Fames gave us some love !!!
  9. This is interesting JJ however getting younger is not always an upgrade. Isn't that handcuffing your GM? We will never find a top 6 RW if the trade has to be net positive on picks and get younger really tough with those stipulations. How many years did we try to find Iggy a proper center? Overall you can"t just look at a couple of successes { ie: Pens } and say this is right way to do things. They were a small percentage of all who have tried that route to rebuild {fail for Nail anyone} and got lucky twice with a generational player from there
  10. Fan 960 is being managed out of Vancouver now. Ever since Boomer in the Morning moved on and 2 others left there was a shuffle. That might be what you ran into the restructure. I use the web app for fan960 and not the sportsnet app to listen to fan960. Google fan960 radio and it comes up as the fan960 radio player. I think the Flames Owners have been sold on the expression of "just get into the playoffs and anything can happen" thinking. That has been our marching orders even when "Mr Wandering in the desert" traded JBo and Iggy to start the rebuild. As a fan I can see why you might be okay with a couple years of tanking to get some higher draft picks but that will never be our fate with these owners. They want playoff revenues so that is and will forever be our fate. Rebuild if you want but make the playoffs. As an owner(putting on my Owners cap} I would want that too. I can blame them for wanting that. After all look north and see the perfect example of how difficult that route has been for them and they still aren"t close......
  11. Very important 4 pt game tonight. Thx for GDT !! Go Flames GO !!!!
  12. I think it was wishful thinking to expect the new Flames to fit in seamlessly and replace the production of Johnny and Chucky line right away. After all last year was a personal best year for them and we have to remember that Johnny Hockey had 8 years here to work out the bugs with his teammates. I would have loved it had we been able to just insert Hubs into the first line and have it be effortlessly replace what we had last year. We can all see the growing pains early this season of our players learning the system and new teammates. However... The coaching is also going through some difficulties too. It appears to me the system needs some modifications to allow the new lines and players to adapt better. Or put another way find a style made for the players rather than adapt the players to the style a bit more.... i am not saying we need to change to Flames style to run and gun... Just need to adapt the style a bit. The November schedule was brutal too. Not an excuse but for sure made a difference to our slow start. I see glimpses of it coming together and can see the potential of a very good team but it will take more time to find that level of play.
  13. We need a win tonight.... Nothing Else Matters... Go Flames !!!
  14. Because of player absences, the Toronto Maple Leafs will make some adjustments for their game against the visiting Calgary Flames on Saturday night. The Maple Leafs also will try to extend two significant streaks in their game against the Flames, who lost 3-1 to the host Columbus Blue Jackets on Friday night. Toronto's Mitchell Marner scored a goal Thursday night in a 5-0 home victory over the Los Angeles Kings to stretch his team-record points streak to 21 games (10 goals, 18 assists). The Maple Leafs have shut out their past two opponents, beating the host Dallas stars 4-0 on Tuesday with Matt Murray making 44 saves before Ilya Samsonov stopped 29 Los Angeles shots on Thursday. Toronto has collected at least one point in 13 consecutive games (10-0-3) to move within three games of the cub record set in the 2003-04 season. On Saturday, the Maple Leafs will be without Pierre Engvall (one-game suspension) and Nicholas Robertson (shoulder injury). Engvall was suspended for his high-striking major and game misconduct in the third period on Thursday. Robertson was injured in the first period on Thursday while falling after getting hit by Kings defenseman Matt Roy, and Maple Leafs coach Sheldon Keefe said he could miss "significant time." Keefe is considering using Denis Malgin in Robertson's left wing position on a line with John Tavares and Marner. Joey Anderson was recalled from the Toronto Marlies of the AHL, where he had 11 goals and eight assists. Maple Leafs forward Wayne Simmonds is scheduled to play in his seventh NHL game this season on Saturday. Regardless of his linemates, Marner insists he is not totally absorbed by his points streak. "I'm trying not to focus on it too much," he said. "Trying to go out there and play my game and buzz and have fun." The streak is the third longest recorded by an active player. Patrick Kane got to 26 games in 2015-16, and Sidney Crosby reached 25 in 2010-11. "It's so impressive," said Toronto center Auston Matthews, who scored a goal against the Kings. "It's so much fun just watching him do his thing out there. He's having a lot of fun and makes everybody around him better, so it's been a lot of fun to witness this, and we just want him to keep going. And I know he will." Matthews extended his point streak to six games (five goals, five assists) on Thursday. The Flames recalled Matthew Phillips from the Calgary Wranglers of the AHL before they opened a three-game trip in Columbus. He is tied for the AHL points lead in both goals (15) and points (30) this season, but he was not in the Flames' lineup on Friday. "I think I've built up my game since I turned pro," Phillips said. "And I'm confident in my abilities, and I can be quick on pucks and make quick plays and get in and around the net. That's my game." Jacob Markstrom started in goal for Calgary at Columbus and made 24 saves. The two goals that beat him came on breakaways, the first one at 1:02 of the first period. The Blue Jackets' third goal was scored into an empty net. Michael Stone scored for Calgary in the third period to cut the deficit to 2-1. "I think our defense struggled mightily with the puck and in coverage for the whole game," Flames coach Darryl Sutter said. "Some guys came for a visit, not to try and win the hockey game. Very disappointed." The loss ended Calgary's three-game winning streak. --Field Level Media TEAM STATS

  16. Is this a squeeky wheel gets the grease thing?
  17. I have a moderator delete it as the system won't allow you to.
  18. November schedule was a brutal one no matter how you sliced it up. I am hoping the team can settle in a bit starting now. Home record is respectable. Away record we deserved more points but did not get the results.
  19. Okay.. Lineups are updated including starting goaltenders.
  20. Team Comparison You know I have always felt that Hockey and Boxing have a lot in common. A good Defense leads to a good Offense
