  1. I would do Monahan and a second for Barzal in a heartbeat. I see Barzal as a true #1C and believe he will be a perennial PPG guy in his prime. His offense has been slightly stifled playing in Trotz's system so I believe he is just scratching the surface offensively.
  2. I agree with this. I'm a LHS forward, but played D for a couple years as well. All in all I've played every position at some point outside of goaltender. As far as playing the off-side, I agree its been blown a little out of proportion at times. It definitely takes an adjustment period and a few minor tweaks. But once you get used to it its just as comfortable as playing "strong-side" As far as forward position preference for me it went: C, RW, LW in that order.
  3. Personally I dont think any idea could really be a dumb idea in these current times. I just want to be able to see hockey live again at some point.
  4. I really liked Zav in both of the last two training camps. Specifically the most recent where I thought he was very close to pushing for a roster spot. Looking like a great pickup for a 7th rounder so far.
  5. Markstrom tops my list as well. He is a game changer. Edit: Meant to post in trade suggestions thread.
  6. It is official. Geoff Ward is our head coach for the coming season.
  7. I'm with you on Zavgorodniy. Huge fan here. As for Pelletier I think he makes a serious push for a roster spot this coming season, he is close. I would not bring back Gus or Forbort. Both are good for special teams but I'd rather we groom Andersson/Hanifin/Valimaki to be effective in these situations as well, as we cannot afford the defensive gaffes that Gus and Forbort provide 5 on 5. I'd like to drop Janko but bring back Rieder. Both are good on the PK but Rieder provides more energy and speed.
  8. That's a fair assessment, and considering how much they gave up for Tatar at the TDL only to have him play spot-duty in the bottom 6 for most of the 2018 playoffs it's not really surprising.

From all the posts I've read on here it seems like you always believe the Flames are/should be rebuilding. I fully disagree with this train of thought. I do, however, agree with what you said about the organization's inability to develop quality netminders in recent years though. Hopefully Wolf pans out.
  10. Hes got a sweet set of hands in tight and I think that may be where the Schwartz comparisons come from. He may not be quite as agitating as Gallagher but he is very effective in the dirty areas just like him and how creative and successful he is with puck deflections reminds me of Gallagher quite a bit. Just an all-around sparkplug.
  11. Over this past season I've been watching as much of Pelletier as I can and he plays with a ton of emotion. He reminds me a lot of Brendan Gallagher with his skillset as well. Excited to see what he can bring to the Flames.
  12. I'm hoping this Gio injury can be a real wake up call for the rest of the roster. Step it up by committee and watch the results improve.
  13. Agree with the last sentence 100%. I'm not sold on Ward just yet but I personally think he's earned a longer look.

Good stuff. Yeah worse defenseman generally means more high-danger opportunities so those numbers are encouraging.

I'd add Nashville and NYR to the teams you mentioned as well. Rinne/Saros and Lundqvist/Georgiev is solid.

I'd take Markstrom in a heartbeat. He's been stellar for Vancouver.

I have high hopes for Wolf. I think he may be a steal. His numbers this year are ridiculous. I'm a big Parsons fan as well and I think he's full of potential.

Some teams have multiple goalies they have developed that have not yet stolen the starter job. And if you consider just development from FA signings, the number is even higher. Calgary has a long history of poor goalie development, and considering neither Rittich or Kiprusoff were drafted by the Flames it's easy to see why some here believe it's an issue.

A lot of current NHL starters were drafted and developed by their respective clubs.
  20. He looked decent in camp but yeah not quite there yet. If he continues his pace though I think he gets a good long look next year. It sucks that there's only the two options with him though, as there is a point where a player is just too good for the CHL and it's not developmentally beneficial to send them back.
  21. Semantics are semantics. Either way Ward ran the team in BUF and Peters was not behind the bench.
  22. I really like this kid and I sincerely believe that the size will not be much of an issue. With the smaller equipment on goalies these days it's more about athleticism and vision than just being a big shot-blocker. Juuse Saros is a good young goalie and I think he's only 5'11"
  23. I think what the worst part is is the younger players tend to have absolutely no interest in policing themselves. We saw it on the play with Zadorov earlier this season. He's literally staring at the ref the whole time with this smug look like "you going to step in and break this up?"

I've looked what I've seen from the tenders so far this season. When the team puts out a more consistent effort up front, we will have a scary team.
