Best Top 6 in Franchise History

I have been a fan of the Calgary Flames ever since they moved here from Atlanta in 1980.

During the 1988/1989 Stanley Cup season, Calgary’s Top 6 forwards were Gilmour, Loob, Mullen, Nieuwendyk, Otto, and Roberts.

IMHO, since then the best top 6 forward configuration may have been:

Gaudreau (LW) – Monahan (C) – Lindholm (C/RW)

Mangiapane (LW/RW) – Backlund (C) – Tkachuk (LW/RW)

If my memory serves me correctly, this was immediately after Frolik was traded to Buffalo in January 2020.

The Flames had limited time with this set of Top 6 forwards; as the following year was the 56 game covid shortened season during which Monahan suffered his first major injury, which he unfortunately played through.

What do you all think was the Flame's best Top 6 in their history?

Gaudreau-Lindholm-Tkachuk was a lot of fun to watch. For all three to score 40 was incredible. The second line wasn’t as formidable but still had Mangiapane and his 35 goals.

06-07 comes to mind as well. Iginla, Tanguay, Huselius and Langkow all with 70+

hard to overlook the 89 team.  3 of them already HoFers.

Gaudreau, Monahan, Lindholm,  Mangiapane, Backlund, Tkachuk

Can only see Tkachuk as a potential HoF out of those 6.

Gaudreau had the chance to be a HoF player here, but he lost his way.

Priorities.  Understandable that he chose family over fame, and good on him for that.

He's close to Paddy Kane in points per game, but I don't know if he plays at that level again.

Well, how about the, "what could have been" 98 Flames?

St. Louis-Savard-Iginla

Stillman-Nylander-Fleury

although, Stillman was traded just after that for Craig Conroy. That would have been a fairly good top 6 too....

maybe a cup winner, much like the one '04 was

Conroy-Stillman was 2000. Fleury was traded for Reggie at the '99 tdl. I had to stretch it out to get everyone in '98.lol Bah I screwed up, no Savard until '99. Andrew Cassels is a big step down!
