GDT - Flames @ Kings - December 22, 2022 - 8:30PM MDT Start

Good to get a point but it should have been 2. They slept for a min and the kings made them pay. Focusing on the OT record is noise, the flames have to find a way to stop having games get to OT.

flames execution level was high in this one but I liked their game in 3rd more. For 2 periods they tried to slow the Kings down, clog the neutral zone and be patient. When they were pushing the pace and being more aggressive I think they were a better team.

hopefully Sutter has the same takeaway.

Why can't we pass like that on odd man rushes like the kings did, and other teams do?

Because we don't understand the tap in play.

When we are going 2 on 1, both players are lined up with the defender in between.

There is no pass avaolable, so we shoot.

When we pass, it's into a stick or skate.

Anyway, coach needs to have a chat with Hubey.

That is some stupid play out there.

On for 3 of the 4 goals against.

Either Hibey or Lucic responsible for the gp ahead goal.

Lucic's play was the first goal againt.

Anyway, it's a tough team to beat, but they played most of the game well.

First 2 minutes of the 3rd and OT stupid play killed the game.

We only seem to play a high tempo game when we get down one.

Start sending in more than one forechecker.

Really, we should have had about 2 more goals but a couple of posts and misses when the goalie was down and out.  Too much thinking out there.  Ras has a lane to the net and outwaits the goalie but has no angle to shoot, so he goes behind the net.  We just refuse to shoot.  Unless it's a two on one.

I really liked this version of Hanifin though.  He was a beast in the 3rd period with all his pinches and plays being made.  Great pass to Dube backdoor on that Dube goal.  Why don't we activate Hanifin full time?

He has that set play down.

Works 60% of the time everytime.

We sure had some shakey play from Tanev in OT.

Almost ended it early.

I was like, oh no! Why put him back out there right after he gave up three shots on one play!??? Don't put him back out after that!

i feel like we rarely shoot it in a 2-on-1 situation. We get some off but it is usually after it is way too late and shot to the side the goalie can't leave a juicy rebound on

For sure. The problem is that's a high risk game so we'll only do it when we're down. We'll be a tight-checking team, but really need to figure out how to create O with that style of play.

Lucic is too slow for top 6, I don't get that part.

Guessing beyond guessing Phillips slots somewhere tonight?

Did Rosie come back after taking the Stone shot?

It seemed that they were not really using the 4th line much, due to shortening the bench.

Rosie was key in the PP goal, but you can't have him out there.

Must feed Lucic minutes because being on for 2 goals against isn't enough.

His offense is better than his play without the puck.

Knows when to just pass it to Hubey.

But in our zone it's like watching a slow version of Gaudreau without the puck.

Just takes up space but covers nobody.

Unlike Gaudreau, he has little ability to strip the puck.

Our top players should be + not - in a tight checking game.

Vladar kept them in it.  They did little to help.

I don't care at this point who plays on the 2nd line, but FFS get Lucic back to the 4th.

It's a mess seeing that line out there.  4th line is okay, but wasting a top 6 talent there.

I think there is a balance to be found that this team hasn’t found yet. You should

be able to pinch or have dmen join the rush, get pucks to slot etc without playing “high risk”.

I find we are sending one guy in, but also do that with dump and chase.

Not much chance of disrupting if that's all you do.

As far as activating, the line out there isn't talking or seeing the hole left.

2D pinching at the same time and the F aren't covering.

A slower skating D in deep and nobody taking the spot.

i don't get this at all... how can lifetime hockey players play this way? Shouldn't they be taught to understand this? I know exactly who is where on the ice when I play and what their roles are and if they jump into play, and I'm the closest to that player jumping, I cover them... it's so simple! Are hockey players just dumb nowadays?
