cross16
What has been rumored for a few weeks is now official. The Heat, Flames top farm team, will no longer player in Stockton and will relocate to Calgary effective next season. No word on where they will play yet and more details to come as per the press release but the farm team is now right in the city for the Flames. Also not confirmed is that they will stay the "Heat". Rumors are a name change is being considered.
sak22
I'm hearing it will be the Dome where they play. I know its been questioned, but from mid September to mid April there are 212 days, in that period there are 45 dates for the Flames, 36 for both AHL and Hitmen and 9 Roughnecks, so 126 guaranteed dates leaving about 86 open dates. As of today we have 3 concerts booked for October-December. The biggest issues are probably the AHL, Hitmen and Roughnecks schedules are more weekend oriented. As far as a name, I wonder if they would go with a throwback to an old team Tigers, Centennials, Cowboys, or Wranglers.

Whoever is responsible for scheduling at the dome should be getting a pay raise with this news. I'm curious to see the price point but if they are kid friendly I could image going to a few games. Would be cool the see the prospects and watch better hockey than the Hitmen. Nothing against the Hitmen of course just the AHL is more skilled. Heat tickets were not very much ($20-40) but it also wouldn't shock me if the increase the price. I would be a big fan of the Wranglers. The vintage stuff they put out when the Hitmen did that Coral game looked very cool.
cross16
So interesting. it appears CESC wants to name the AHL teams the Calgary Wranglers and are taking steps to do so but they are getting opposition from Wrangler jeans.
jjgallow
Lol. filed in 2018, opposed in 2022. Only in Canada. https://www.ic.gc.ca/app/opic-cipo/trdmrks/srch/viewTrademark?id=1925256&lang=eng&tab=reg&posNum=2&search={"selectField1"%3A"all"%2C"textField1"%3A"calgary wranglers"%2C"category"%3A""%2C"type"%3A""%2C"status"%3A""%2C"viennaField"%3A[]%2C"searchDates"%3A[]%2C"selectMaxDoc"%3A"500"%2C"language"%3A"eng"}&length=25&start=0 How can a filing actually take 4 years lol. No idea how you even trademark a generic word like Wranglers, but seems they got caught from trying to register every known classification in the world. I'm assuming the conflict comes in somewhere around clothing/merchandise.
Thebrewcrew
Excited to see some AHL hockey in Calgary. The Heat/Wranglers/whatever should be very good again.

cross16
Went to their first game yesterday and wanted to give them a quick plug. if you are looking for good value hockey I would recommend checking out the Wranglers. Tickets only cost around $25, and it's only the lower bowl so it winds up being a really good atmosphere. Was pretty well done yesterday so I will be checking out more and would recommend it especially if you are looking for value. Good food deals on Sunday's too. Not a great game from the home side yesterday but hard to complain about 11 goals as a fan.
sak22
I picked up seasons when the Flames offered a discount to their STH. My only gripe is the schedule kinda sucks as they have 3 Friday afternoon games and zero Saturday games, but that is the downside as the WHL and NLL schedules are weekend heavy. But I would second that it is great value and an entertaining product. Slow start yesterday Wolf kept em in for the first, I don't really fault him for the result as a few goals were unfortunate bounces. I don't want to go into deep dives on player evals after one game. My main takeaways are I do think there could be something in Poirier, and we should not be making a trade for a top 9 RW without giving Matthew Phillips a shot first. No reason not to have the longest playing guy as your C. He knows how to play to stay in the pros.

Last season I was watching the Wranglers practice, and he was first off the ice for some reason that day. We busted his balls about getting off the ice early, and he laughed and pointed out that he's 15 years older than most of these guys... hard days, y'know?! Anyway, nice guy, and a pretty good captain for the AHL club. Even though Sutter is often considered a cuss word in our house, I don't mind this signing at all.
