What total domination.  Rangers looked tired from the second period onward and the Flames never let the foot off the gas pedal.  It wasn't even fair at times.  Winning what seemed like 90% of the board battles and races to loose pucks.  Good to see depth scoring coming alive because we really didn't get any depth scoring last season.

Wow! Another shut out by Markstrom. I still want to get a bit of differentiation in net here!

but he made the saves he had to. Ok game. Sloppy but they kept with it and as NYR got tired, the Flames cleaned it up.

The road trip will need it.  I think they need Vladar in a tuneup against SJS.

Then right away against MTL.

Great game once again.

Statement SO for Marky and 4th on the year already.

Last year the Flames seemed to have a lot of misfortune but now they are playing with so much effort the bounces are coming with regularity.

Could have been a different game somewhat had the Fox goal counted but a 6-0 win is always fun to see.

On to the next one ! GFG!

Bolded is the biggest difference.

We didn't have any depth last year.

My mantra has been it was a damn good offseason. We needed depth first.

Most went vomit-mode with most additions.

I loved the fwd adds. That's great depth.

Richardson was fantastic tonight.

We needed proven NHL role players. Not Jankowski AHL level throways.

You need to give pause to Monahan.

Lindholm, Lucic, Lewis, Mangia, Richardson, Gudbranson, Kyl, Pitlick...

On and on....Monahan is surrounded by players that "get" adversity.

This is the hard to play team I expected.

Monahan's a big part of it.

All of the adds were great. Bottom 6 is fixed. We wondered how to split Mangia-Dube. Now, because of those adds, they're a new dynamic pairing.

One thing's for sure.

We sure as h-e-double hockey sticks aren't afraid of A dam Fox.🤠

I'm not crazy about the Backlund line so far.

Pitlick is all work with little reward.

I might be inclined to draw up the lines differently, but it's early yet.

You can leave the top lne as is for now.

Perhaps move Coleman to Dube's line, if you aren't going to move Monahan there.

Based on who dressed tonight, I would adjust as follws:

Top line - leave alone

Mangiapane-Monahan-Dube

Backlund line - leave it for now

Lucic-Richardson-Lewis

As you say, it's impossible now to split up Mange and Dube.

I wonder if Dube-Backlund-Pitlick might improve the Backlund line.

Coleman would need to gel with Mangiapane and Monahan.

It's a long season.

We shall see what Sutter thinks.

No. Stop expecting every line to dominate in the offensive zone. Backlund's line is perfect to munch minutes safely. The bottom line the same. Those minutes are as important as the scoreboard minutes.

I agree to not get too caught up in the whole not keeping up in goals as other lines. They’ve pinched in when they needed to in some games. They’re not going to score in every game. But when they do, it helps. They’re spending more time with the puck and making minutes hard on the other team.

tonight was an ugly game, but they stuck with it and started to keep hammering them. And it’s not always the hammer that finishes the nail… sometimes it’s a screw? I dunno what I’m trying to say… just that the constant pounding from one line can make room for another to get a bounce or two. And that’s what we missed for years! Like conundrum had said. For me, it’s what has been missing and we’ve been adding that with Rinaldo, Ritchie and other AHL players. I’d say Hathaway was out last prototypical 4th liner and it had been no wonder we’d not really seen success since he left. That’s my philosophy.

I don’t think intimidation is ever going to leave the NHL… so best to have it in spades. To be able to roll four lines is a huge advantage, especially if they’re a wear them down type deep team.

That wear and tear adds up by the end of the game. We saw that where lindholm played how many minutes. Backlund the same, but with Mangiapane and Tkachuk who aren’t that heavy and so carrying heavy weight is hard in the role they played. Roles need to be filled.

we are going to win the cup this year.

Monahan manages to be leading the team with a -5 this season while the team has a +18 goal differential.  Talk about talented.

It's not that we don't need Monahan but it's that we don't need 10-minutes a night making $6.3-mil.  That's a killer.  We are already carrying Lucic making big money in the bottom 6.  Richardson outplayed Monahan and should be 4th line Center.

Boy if there was a trade to move Monahan to upgrade Hanifin... I like your Chychrun idea and maybe this is a buy-low opportunity on Chychrun.  Monahan + Hanifin + 1st (32nd overall) for Chychrun.

I like Chychrun but that's a steep offer.

We dump a 4th liner making $6.3-mil... and Hanifin is a 2nd pair talent.  Our 1st is looking like a late 1st at this point.

Chychrun led NHL D with most goals last season.  Watch him play and he impacts the game like a legit #1 Dman.  Chychrun is younger and cheaper than Hanifin and signed longer.

If I was ARZ, then I won't even do that deal.  Only chance we have is ARZ is so bad.  Chychrun only has 1 assist so far this season.

It's all about balancing skills with fit.

As much as Sutter looks like a genious, the lines could be improved.

That's a;; I am really after; the best possible lines.

Monahan on the 4th may be fine for now, but that's not a great use of talent.

Dube and Mange have struggled to register points in the last 5 but are getting the looks.

Richardson with Lucic and Lewis may not be a sink hole; if they can stay even it's a win.

I would be inclined to find a deal with ARI that included Hanifin, but didn't sell low on a career (-1) 20 goal scorer.  Hanifin + 1st may be enough.  Yeah right.

ARI is a mess.

Add in Zary or Pelletier or Werner.

Hrudey was saying he expected Mony to take about 3 months to fully get normal from his surgery. That makes a lot of sense with his 4th line minutes rn.

Chychrun is never going to be a buy low option. But would always be a win. I feel horrible for him stuck in obscurity on that team. I can definitely speak to his character, he was a close 2nd only to Stamkos during his jr days in Sarnia.

He was always at the arena with the kids on league practice Tuesday nights. Knew most of the kids by name. My daughter went to the same high school and said he wasn't goofy like the other hockey jocks, he was respectful to everyone.

A hindsight look at the 2016 drafy:

1. Matthews

2. Laine

3. Dubois

4. Pujjijarvi

5. Juolevi

6. Tkachuk

14. McAvoy

16. Chychrun

Based on now, where do the 2 NHL #1 dmen slot?

I think to look at Chychrun's value, McAvoy is prolly a good comparison.

That's a big pricetag.

Can it be clipped and moved?

You know those Moderators one rule for them one rule for the rest of us 😜🤣

I'm sure it can be moved, but I would muck that up.

It persisted for some time, so merging it would make it tough to follow.

The discussion was good, and sometimes we just let it drag on too long.
