Gawdin will be better served getting top line minutes on one of the best teams in the AHL, vs getting 4th line minutes with the Flames. Stone and Rinaldo and Robinson is what I am talking about, but you can quibble if you like. Dube got 4th line minutes and Kylington is still getting 3rd pairing minutes, so I think that any NHL experience benefits the team over the AHL team. An injury to Janko or Bennett down the stretch and you haven't yet tried him out. Instead we try Rieder at C. Or we play Rinaldo at LW and Rieder at RW. What have we learned from playing guys like Dube, Mange, Kyl, Ras and Janko? That they can offer enthusiasm and skills.
JTech780
Nice to see them keeping Bennett at center, though I wonder if Ryan is still getting in game shape after being sick for a week. I would put Robinson in over Rinaldo.

I think they do that but at the same time their play goes quiet for a lot of games and they get stapled to the bench. I would rather they learn to play good positional hockey at a level where they’re allowed to make mistakes. The AHL is a development league. I think Dube is fine in the NHL but I want to develop him to be better than fine. the same goes with other players. Mangiapane forced his way up the lineup but that’s rare for this team. He still needed the A.

We are lacking RHS, especially at C. Ryan is currently the only one. We have another RHS playing RW. That's it. Just my side of the argument to have him play one or two games now. In Carty's GDT against the Ranger, the average age for NY was 25.5 and CGY was 26.7. At the time it included Gio on the high end and Valimaki on the low end. I have said previously that when given an opportunity Bennett needs to take it. Well in my view he has, I would argue that he has looked better than most at center. Leave him with Dube and Lucic for 5-7 games and then make an assessment.

Monahan was bad, Backlund less than 50%. Need tto win draws in the O-zone. We need to do something with the PP. Mangiapane is a first timer weapon. Ras is not shooting. Tkachuk is trying to be cute, not annoying players in front of the net. Hanifin can't hold the line. Lindholm is invisible. Why isn't Mangiapane playing RW for the one-timer? Why is Tkachuk playing on the boards?
JTech780
If we keep Bennett at center, that frees up Ryan to play RW. Gaudreau-Monahan-Lindholm Tkachuk-Backlund-Mangiapane Dube-Bennett-Ryan Lucic-Jankowski-Rieder That makes our right side look a bit better. I don't have a problem with that lineup, but the coach seems to think Lucic belongs with Ryan and Dube. He does have a point because that's the best Lucic has played. Personally, I don't think Lucic belongs on the 3rd line.

He’s on pace to be more productive than Neal was last year. I’d like to add one more forward to push Lucic to the 4th line, and more importantly off the PP. Lucic has been fine but it’s not ideal playing him as much as they have
JTech780
Interesting on headlines they mentioned that they think Colorado will move Tyson Jost before Monday. I know we don't really match up well, but I would be really interested in Tyson Jost. I wonder if Derek Ryan would interest them at all, depth at center has another year in his deal. Jost is just another Jankowski to me. I think we would be better off with a veteran versatile guy like Ryan over Jost.

Whatevs. Just saying that hitting on 2nd rounders and later is the only reason we have any real depth. Tkachuk, Monahan and Backlund are our only 1st rounders playing at a decent scoring level. Bennett and Janko not so much.
JTech780
Till Giordano gets back I would go with: Forbort-Brodie Hanifin-Andersson Kylington-Gustafsson When Giordano gets back: Giordano-Brodie Hanifin-Andersson Forbort-Gustafsson When Hamonic gets back: Giordano-Brodie Hanifin-Andersson Gustafsson-Hamonic Sub Forbort for Gustafsson if we need more size on the back end. Maybe there is something to this..... The thing to note is that Dube and Kylington appear to be off the Flames roster, making them eligible to play in the AHL playoffs. Yes, I updated the post with that point. I expected it might happen, but it doesn't really make a lot of sense. Dube may not play every game, but he only goes there if the Flames are eliminated. Kylington is a waiver exempt casualty. He's a known quantity over Forbort and better than Stone. They send him down instead of Stone and it's just wrong. But, hey it's business. We like you, but we like the guy we bought out and re-signed for league minimum better because we don;t want to waive him.
