Hate the Hawks. Think they're overrated as hell.

Smith vs Crawford.

I think the playoffs will help finally expose the defensive and forward depth they've proceeded to display a lack of.

Toews likely out to start?

This one could go 7 either way.

If the Sharks beat the Blues... go Yotes in gm 7.

If the Blues win, Go Hawks in gm 7...

hawks in 6 as well.. too strong up front and i think they will start to exploit the holes in phoenix's game and mike smith will look human.

What are your perceived holes in Pho?

I think they match up well.

other than Vrbata, Phoenix lacks offense but plays well as a team and defensively. but if the play is high tempo it favors the hawks far more than the yotes. If the yotes can lull the hawks into a neutral zone contest it plays more into their hands. but in terms of who has the better chance to play their game, you have to give it to the hawks. NOW is Toews ready to come back yet? that could be a difference maker.

the big glaring weakness on the hawks in goaltender and defensive depth after keith and seabrook/halmersson(sp?) and dont count out ray whitney as he is clutch and loves the playoff atmosphere. But can a whitney and a Vrbata take on the likes of hossa/sharp/kane/toews ?

I think Phoenix has a legit shot at knocking off the Hawks. I like this match up for the same reasons I picked Ottawa over the Rangers. Phoenix has played Chicago well this year and don't think that the Yotes can't play a high tempo style cus they have been for short spurts all season. Tippett has them dialed in and this team can switch gears pretty good. No doubt Chicago has their hands full.

Out of all the series so far, this first game had very scrambly play. Not sure if this is the result of Phoenix's bad ice conditions or if both teams just can't control the puck and miss passes like crazy. So many mis-handled pucks just from simple stuff like stick handling up the ice and receiving passes. Lots of cross ice passes to nobody in particular and just tossing pucks in the general direction of another teammate but not aiming. It was very bad hockey to watch.

i don't know.. i'm enjoying the game so far... i've been impressed with the yotes push. did not expect them to get the extended zone time they've gotten for stretches... this one will be a long series... the yotes are not overwhelmed at all.

( i know that doesnt really address your point... i guess i will just disagree with you, the game has not bad been a tough watch for me..) But honestly, i may just feel that way because i know the end result so alls good! I'll pay attention now.. as i'm about to watch the OT here shortly.

Just finished the OT... and you are dead right about the missed passes, neutral zone turnovers, and just messy play... but they a handful of them resulted in threathening play going the other way, so its damage the excitement of the game for me... which is why i probably didnt notice earlier...

And then the Yotes finish off after dominating for handful shifts which resulted in 2-3 icing calls in a row before they finally scored... great gm...

The Coyotes 5-man box is so small and tight. They give up the points and don't pressure the side boards. The Hawks were allowed to control the zone from the perimeter for much of the game, working the puck around the outside until there was a chance to shoot. I think the Coyotes need to be a bit more aggressive. The only irony of their system is that the Hawks love that cross-ice pass to the backdoor for a one-timer and it just so happens a smaller and tighter box eliminates that play. I think the Coyotes could steal this series from the Hawks (depending on how badly injured Vrbata is). I don't think Boedker is the answer.

Andrew Shaw suspended 3 games for his run at Smith...

Good.

Like the suspension. Nothing to disagree with after watching the Shanny video.

This weakens the Hawks severely depth-wise. Means Morrison, Hayes or Frolik draws back in...

None bring the speed, aggressiveness, or energy Shaw managed to bring so surprisingly well..

ARE YOU KIDDING ME DL?! there was no run, it was Shaw trying to beat smith to the puck behind the net, when Shaw took the turn he realized Smith had turned his body to play it towards him and tried to place his own body as "thin" as possible to go between Smith and the boards but unfortunately he also ran into Smith. If you want you can call this goaltender interference because I agree all players should not be hitting the goalie, but accidents happen!

I saw the panel on TSN try and say "well Shaw should've tried to hit the boards etc" He was taking the turn behind the net and Smith changed body position to play the puck the opposite way, and you can CLEARLY see Shaw try and put his body away from the lean of a turn into the boards once he saw Smith in his path. As well Smith was probably shaken at first that he got hit but in no way was the hit hard/forceful or intent to hurt and I honestly feel Smith embellished but that is only debatable. Looking at this hit to the hit Lucic did on Miller is like night and day and only one was suspended. I feel Shanny got a lot of heat by the vancouver crew on the hit by Keith and then the heat from the Rangers on Hagelin that he had to keep the consistence he has now done and do the same to Shaw. Smith finished that game and will play game 3. HORRIBLE JOB BY SHANNY!!! he was doing good at the start of the season but has now shown so many inconsistency's in the last half of the season that I almost want Colin Campbell back... almost.

There was no race for puck... Smith clearly had it.

Smith had the puck before Shaw hit the top of the crease.

Made nooo attempt to avoid the hit...

I think Shaw knows exactly what he's doing there...

Someone didn't watch the video... http://video.nhl.com/videocenter/console?catid=60&id=172552

So are you saying he should of got No Games for it?

Ok, so i miss worded when i spoke of race for the puck, but race for the "free" puck. With a goaltender behind the net that is opportunity for any forward to try and strip the puck from the goaltender while he is out of position. This is what Shaw was doing he was the fore checking forward on the dump. Smith read the play wrong and took his time to play the puck behind his net with a forward bearing down on him ( comon DL you know as well as I do most tenders will let the puck play around if the opposing forwards are already at the top of the circle) but regardless Smith is allowed to do this. Once this happens you can see Shaw start to extend his stick to strip or poke at the puck as he is closing in on Smith. In that instant Smith turns right at Shaw to shoot the puck, when he does this is also puts his head in a vulnerable position as Shaw is right behind him at this point. Shaw then tries to straighten up to avoid Smiths head ( I dont know how you can say he made no attempt when he clearly starts to change body position, and not body position to lay a hit but to avoid a collision)

Shanny puts it that he intended to hit Smith but he got it more right when he labeled it as Charging, or goaltender interference. It was accidental contact, no intent shaw didnt lay out a body check, he didnt raise his elbow to clip him he ran into a goaltender who turned into him. Shaw shouldve played this better due to it being a playoff game but i dont believe this warrents a 3 game not even a game a penalty on the play for sure!

Well you might not admit it but i know you dislike the hawks a lot :) so could be a reason your view point is so strong. But I think we can agree that Shanny needs a better system to rule on suspensions and length as its always in the air till day of.

Anyways bud always like discussing topics with your view.

Shaw was definitely at fault on this occasion...

This is a goaltender he hit...

Even if a goalie is outside the crease, it is still incumbent upon the opposing player to avoid unnecessary contact whenever possible...

Sure, I think Shaw embellished the hit, but it was still worth a suspension...

3 games is about right... Maybe only 1 or 2 games, unless the the league is trying to send a message for targeting a goalie, especially in the playoffs...

Bottom line is... You just can't smoke goalies... and I am not either a Yotes or Hawks fan...

Hossa was smoked by Torres in the 1st. Taken off on a stretcher & had a police escort on the way to the hospital.

if he had juuuuust stayed on his feet, that would of been the hit of the offseason so far!

An absolute beauty (almost) of a hit...

I might need to pull out my sarcasm meter here, but on the assumption that you're serious...

waaaaaaay too late

It didn't look late at all live... or when you see it full speed...

You can never judge lateness of hit on a slow-mo...

I watched it live. After moving the puck, he looked up and Torres was still more than 10 feet away. Hossa actually took a couple small strides before getting hit, which you never see.

Late and vulnerable and he left his feet. I think Torres gets more than 5 games.
