  1. Well not in all cases will we get roster players like Kuz coming back. We will likely be trading 2 D in the next couple of weeks. You can't really trade a Tanev for a yonger Tanev. You can perhaps trade a D for a C or a winger. Maybe at Zary stage if you are lucky. I doubt we see anyone coming back older than 25, unless it's a cap dump. In which case we get an asset for taking it.
  2. It doesn't matter how we view the player as it does how NJ views him. 1st year in the NHL 17 goals, 2nd 27 goals, 3rd 15 so far. RHS C that can play the wing. Zary may be close to him in numbers, but they are the same age; one in his 3rd NHL season.
  3. I probably scoffed a bit too much at the burn it down crowd, but the season has turned out to support the fact we are farther from being a contender than a basement dweller. Two years in a row that we are trending in the wrong direction. Marky has a good season and we are points out of a WC spot. Marky had a lesser season and we were points out of a WC spot. If the point is to get better, and we have already traded our "top" C, then we have to go deeper than just a Tanev or Hanifin. Huberdeau and Kadri will need to remain at a high level to bring along the kids and new prospects. Whether we just go with Wolf and Vladar or pick up a more likely starter, we have to seriously consider trading Markstrom. I don't know how much of his struggles are with the team in front or his usage or how he plays the puck. I think he will last his contract, but then what. By 2026, will he be that relevant? I believe it's a matter of time before 2-3 players are traded. It would be safer to trade Tanev now, but the offers may not be there yet. Not much time for teams to deal, so they need to up their offers or risk losing out. On our side, they also need to be careful they don't overplay him or wait too long. Game of chicken. Hanifin is in a weird space. Like Lindholm, they know that he is wanting out (if he isn't signing). But you can't lowball a 2/3 D-man.
  4. Servalli is using the Hampus Lindholm as a comp for Hanifin: That trade was done at TDL for: 1st in 2022, 2nd in 2023, 2nd in 2024, Urho Vaakanainen, John Moore. Vaakanainen is still young, big and is playing for Anaheim. Moore did not play after the trade that I can tell and was a cap dump of $2.75M. That's a good trade for Anaheim and BOS was able to sign Lindholm. Not sure that is the best comp, but it's reasonable.
  5. I see Markstrom as having two good years so far. His first year was great then fell apart, and yes I can blame the injury but still. The year he had 9 or 10 SO, he fell apart in the playoffs. Lots of blame to go around, but that was the result. The next year, not good. This year great even though the losses say otherwise. I don't see how we can expect to get a top return without some considerations. Maybe it's a retention, but that's difficult to deal with longer than a year. Maybe a lesser return, but it should be something worth it to us. It means that we are in the summer without a NHL starter. Maybe okay for toiling in the bottom of the league but has to be addressed. If we are getting a solid offer, we should do as much as we can to make it happen. Or just hold off and wait for the summer or next season.
  6. He hasn't been needed since Feb. 3rd when Rooney came back. There is no games until 15th so no reason to keep him up and pay him to practice. If they need an extra on Thursday, they will call him up or someone else. It's not helping Coronato to go up and down. He should be top 9, but he pushes out nobody right now.
  7. I'm just saying that he is a future star on that team. Already 50 something goals in 3 seasons. He is probably the replacement for Haula in the near future or a top line RW. Never say never, but this one seems to be the least possible scenaario. Some news out from Frank. Said that Markstrom was asked to waive and approved a trade to NJ. That was before the breakdown. It might signal the end of discussion or lead to something.
  8. I don't think Mercer would ever be on th table. We would need Vanacek just to have 2 actual NHL goalies.
  9. If I am not mistaken, the LTIR has $9M available to counteract the overage. They using $330k of LTIR. That is this year's problem fixed, right? Next year is their problem. You want a $6M goalie, you pay for it. Nobody is going to pay you 1/4 or 1/2 of it so you can run up the rest of the roster. Toffoli will get signed. They will need to cheap out a bit, maybe trade Haula. And by trading Vanacek, they get rid of $3M. Mercer has zero leverage, so they can pay him for a year or two below the big $$. That's what happens. Not every player gets the big money on 2nd contract.
  10. NJ would have 2.5 years of Markstrom to try to win the cup. Young players aren't going to impact fast enough, so if that's the cost, it's the cost. 1st plus Holtz. Maybe not even enough from their end. Vanacek to make them a little happier. They have Dougie on LTIR so cao is not an issue. Next year Miller drops off and they don't have to worry about Foote or McLeod.
  11. I view next season as being the inevitable down year for Marky. It's happened like that since we signed him, but for many different reasons. Bottom line is we don't get 2 years in a row like this year, or the year he had 9 SO's. TDL or summer, it doesn't matter. We do have to know what we have in the remaining two. If we do it now, we may have to replace Vladar this summer. Or we know he is good enough to run as 1a/1b. If we do it in the summer, we might get better value but we should know who we are starting. So, Vladar has to prove he is okay to start. We are not trading Markstrom while Vladar is out, and I doubt it's serious. I think we are being careful by not trading him this week. You never know, we might be offered Holtz and Vanechek, so I would not worry as much. Maybe not what I want in return, but it has less risk than just a player and pick.
  12. Well, that's a bit overblown for a call, but sure they need to crack down on the possible intent. It's junior hockey, so treat it harsh while they are getting used to what the lines are. Not sure how the NHL would treat it, but then again it's a joke here. In this case, I think the suspension is fine. If it happens again, he is a 2nd time offender.
  13. The impact of the retained salary in future years is lessened, but it's still a big consideration. For a pending UFA it's not an issue. There has to be something included in the trade that would justify that. Simply getting a cheap player isn't it.
  14. I haven't really been able to come up with any trades that are sensible for both teams. That's the problem for me. I never would have suggested the trade we made with VAN, but it happened. Maybe it looks better on paper than reality, but I wanted Kuz when he came over the pond. The picks are fine because when we trade with VAN, we draft someone special. The prospects, well hard to tell. Brz looks good because he is lighting it up. Time will tell. A RHS D is something though. I can foresee trades for Hanifin and/or Tanev where we won't be lovin' it. Maybe we don't win both trades, but we have to win one. A 1st, a top prospect, a 2nd and a top 9C is what I would hope out of the pair of them. The first would be a late one, so the other pieces matter. Is it realistic or folly; dunno. The benefit of both these guys being traded is we ain't fooling ourselves again. Be on a playoff push until the last couple of games, then failing. Or somehow making it and one of them comes up lame. We don't have enough depth to consider making the playoffs. Had all year to sign Hanifin. If he thinks he's worth more because of the stellat season, sorry bud but Weegar is crushing it and making less than we offered you. I get the age difference, but Weegar has played one less season than Hanifin. The wear and tear is almost equal.
  15. I think that is what NJ is offering. For some reason they aren't impressed with him yet.
  16. Yep, I think we are talking about the same one. Oilers fans were the ones calling it VV. Hionestly, the outside is not the most important thing. I don't want it to look like an Art Gallery, which the VV design sorta had some similarities to. The old Glendale Arena was nice, really didn't seem out of play and was functional. Had an escalator in it. Was roomy inside. The dome is a fire hazard for pushing people into small areas. There is enough funtional design research out there to give a decent design. I think we are still a ways from the final version. I think you may see a teazer put out to gauge interest.
  17. You mean the Value Villiage one? I was actually just making a joke about JJ wanting to tank the season(s).
  18. In a word, no. He's only leading in one category - goals. Well back in +/-. He's 32 points back of Hughes in scoring and 28 from Makar. Most of that is PP points, but even so. You have to be 1 or 2 in scoring by D to have a chance.
  19. I am reserving judgement until after the Hanifin and Tanev situations are concluded. He's gotten value for two players that were needing deals. He's got two more that are immediate YELLOW ALERT. Kylington is too soon to worry about but the plan needs to be ready come TDL. Can't let him walk. He's a low mileage player with years left.
  20. I have been quietly impressed with the Kyl-Pachal pairing. Maybe they aren't taking the tough minutes, and Kyl is just rounding into form, but they have been great on the road. On the road, where you don't control lines. Ying and Yang. Can't say I have seen Kylington getting burned like Hanifin does on his pinches. Can't say I have seen Andersson being able to beat a streaking forward on the backcheck. No, we have nothing close to a full D once you subtract Tanev and Hanifin, but those guys have been here for years and we have done nothing. We need to find some other gems now. Our PK is great this year, and it's not because Hanifin is out there. Tanev maybe, but that's too much wear and tear on one guy. We can't use him once we make the playoffs because he has bruises on his bruises. He won't be with us the next time we make the playoffs, so time to start building up the next wave. If NY was willing to pony up a 1st and Kappo, I would even retain 1/2 of Hanifin. Don't think they need him though. He would easily sign there. I have a harder time believing Hanifin would sign in Buffalo, but they might be desperate. Mittelstadt + 2nd no retention. Maybe not enough from them.
  21. The reasons for trading Markstrom for me are much more selfish. I don't want to win games just because Marky is playing out of his mind. We have seen up and down from him, so if he plays well the rest of the year, next year is likely to be a down year. Trading him in the summer is probably where you get the best value from him, but the way the team is playing is putting a 16th overall in play. The more we win, the more likely the pressure is to make the team better now. That means more likely a 16th. Hanifin has to be gone. It's untenable. He has 10 years in the league and wont' be as good for the next 8. I don't buy that he is nearing him best years. I think he is in them. There is debate to that, but he's no Gio. He's stayed pretty consisten over the last 5 years, and I think he's hit his ceiling. The question becomes does it make sense to get high value now or hope that we have a team that contends in less than 5. I am a little worried that the offers from teams are lowballs since they just figure they can get him in the summer. They are playing chicken with TDL. Tanev has to be moved. Best defensive player we have, but his injury history just makes him too much a risk. For a re-tooling team, he doesn't make sense. Mangiapane should be considered for a trade, but that's not a TDL deal. SUmmer for sure. In short, trade Hanifin and Tanev. Get back a C and some high value prospects and maybe some decent picks. Leave Markstrom for the summer, but give Wolf starts.
  22. Logic would suggest they send over Raanta, only because they have Spencer Martin as a waiver claim and an OK main guy. The third healthy is Kochetkov, but he's waiver exempt. Raanta is a pending UFA, so it's just a throw in and to make the roster work. Before we got Markstrom, I was interested in him. He hasn't really been that good. They have a lot of pending UFA D. Their best F are all 25-29, with the vets being 30+. DeAngelo might be considered to move, but he's a pending UFA. Drury is about the only one they mioght move from the F. Not hitting his stride yet. No way they move Jarvis. I don't know if it makes sense to them. Freddie is out but for how long. He would only bring them $3.4M in additional cap space on LTIR. I don't know their prospect pool, so no idea. They would need to include a high priced contract just to swing it $$ wise. DeAngelo + Drury + Raanta for Markstrom? Just a guess. Personally I see a better fit for us trading him being in the summer. That won't work for CAR, so they would need to wow us. An interesting thing happened for the Wranglers; they signed the EBUG Dusty Nickle as an EBUG the other day.
