  1. The round does matter. The point is that a 1st rounder almost never waits 4 years to be a free agent. Most want to be playing in 2 years at the latest. The other point is a 1st rounder not signed results in compensation. The only fear about Gaudreau was that we would have to wait another year.
  2. Seems like so many forwards going and not many D. LHS, 6 feet or less. LW/C.
  3. I did say 1st rounders. Fox was what? A 3rd.
  4. Unless one of our faves is dropping and we expect him to get scooped, moving up is not likely. Not for two 3rd's that is. That's a lot of draft capital.
  5. How many 1st rounders wait 4 years to avoid signing with the team that picked him? Can you name them?
  6. That over-simplifies it. And it's probably not even close to being true.
  7. All the big trades so far have been big swings. Jones, OEL are big risky trades. Reinhard traded for who even knows what. Weird that they can't even confirm the return on a trade made yesterday.
  8. I've got no complaints about who we have taken. Euros are so difficult to research, and their stats always look iinferior to NA players. Means nothing. Too bad WPG picked the Russian, but who knows really.
  9. NHL Network is one of the most boring platforms I have ever seen. TSN could do better with the monkey drafts. And I find TSN like a bunch of teenagers.
  10. Stankoven passed over, even though he played with Zary.
  11. We seem to make odd choices for 2nd rounders and make up for them in later rounds.
  12. I jest. Loob obviously had something to say about this kid.
  13. Is this an ESPN production? They know hockey like Holland knows cap.
  14. These trades keep screwing up the order.
  15. So, what he said was he's not decided where he goes next year. He 100% committed to getting to the NHL, so the best way to get there is what he is considering.
  16. Supposedly an extra $500k per year, instead of trading a couple of 6 rounders.
  17. Seriously, there is a guy called Red Savage? Perfect Flames name. Some of these guys out of the USNDP; their little writeups seem good, but I can't tell how they stack up to USHL guys. I do like the looks of Chayka too. The way things are shaping up, there should be one or two guys that drop to us in the 2nd.
  18. You would have to think that Stevie Y was looking very closely. Minny seems to be able to build goalies out of nothing, so I don't think they cared which one was available. In 5 years, Minny will be playing boring hockey and winning defensive games. Is it the goalie or the system? I'm quite happy with our pick, and was the one I wanted. Felt like I would be sad we picked him at 12, but now it seems like a smart spot to get him. We didn't have an OEL to trade or A Jones, so a late 2nd was not in the cards. Too close to the expansion draft to make that kind of trade for us.
  19. We had exactly one 2nd (45 I think) and couple of 3rd rounders. That doesn't get you in the dance.
  20. Help me out with this one. If we draft from the USHL, can the player play in th AHL before he turns 20?
  21. The order was a bit bizarre, but yes it got weird after 9. Mactavish going 3rd, Guenther going 9, and that was because ARI traded for it. Boucher, Rosen and Cossa going where they did. Lambos going so late.
  22. As expected, EDM fans going apesh*t over letting the goalie go for 90th overall and moving down 2 picks. Then of course, they look at the scoring and their eyes light up. Half want to lynch Kenny, while the others drank the Kool-ade.
  23. The cost of a late 1st seems to be two seconds. 27th for 40th and 51st.
  24. I would say our need for D is now, not where most of the avilable D line up making the NHL. Forwards are easy to project into the league and team you expect to have in two years. Not how you should build a team, but when you have certain needs now on D and F shortly, you plan accordingly.
