  1. The 1st and Zary or Pelletier or both is pretty rich for anything less than a top C and even a top D. At least in my mnd. Equivalent of 3 firsts. By comparison, an offer sheet compensation for $10.27m is 2 x 1st, a 2nd and a 3rd. Even for Eichel, a 1st, Tkachuk and Zary is the same as 3 firsts.
  2. I agree. Some suggest that he's more likely to fall to us now, while I have a problem seeing that. Stranger things happen.
  3. Now that Seattle has Dunne and we don't have Gio, the fit may be more obvious now. I was keen on making a play for Dunne, but knew it would create an even more extreme exposure situation. Not sure of the cost, as they have players all over the map. Any takers?
  4. Well, it's 1 x $1.75m. That's a lot different than 4 x $1.5m. As much as I liked Hathaway, I would have had a problem with that deal. Here's the thing about this type of player; he's an asset. Any worse than Goodrow? Same basic age. Could he be flipped to a team at TDL if a team needs such a player? Have we any players that sacrifice the body for the game? Very few.
  5. True. But a 29 game experienced vet with really good numbers in regular season and 9 playoff games should give you some pause about building your team starting with a goalie with your top pick.
  6. Both players have arb rights, so I can understand the reluctance to qualify them. But seriously, what difference does that make? They might sign their QO; at worst they are a trade asset. If they go to arbitration, you ca walk away. Neither player was treated like crap there, though I would question what went on with JJ after the KO from Ritchie. Kahun was given a royal treatment and gifted minutes. Although Kahun has the Oiler stink, he only spent a year there. Another buy low option. I guess at second look, this is the Oilers just looking to deal with them as UFA's. Or just completely have no interest. Seems odd.
  7. Oilers walking away from Khaira and Kahun. I get Khaira is on a downward spiral being forced to play as a tough guy, and it's smart to not spend a ton of money on him. But, Kahun did what they wanted, just not enough goals I guess. The water needs to be investigated.
  8. Nothing like being specific. Between now and training camp. Brilliant. Please, please trade for Risto. That would be the trifecta. I don't know why Barrie would want a 3 year deal. Pretty much means his next deal is much lower. 3 x $6m? First NHL D-man to lead the NHL in points and not garner a single Norris vote. I'm undecided which tire fire I want to see in EDM. Barrie or Risto.
  9. Detroit just traded for Nedeljkovik, so I expect that means they are out on Wallstedt. Ottawa lost Daccord, so they might be much more inclined now.
  10. It would be a 3rd this year or possibly a 4th next year. Sure, we have 2x3rd both years, but unless it's got retained salary, a depth player should not be worth that much.
  11. You speak truths, but he's not there to lead on the ice. He's there to do what the coach asks of him and what his teammates want from him. Not enough to make him the C. I want Lucic to focus on the things that make him great and leave the rallying part to someone else.
  12. I think that Seattle did what you should do at the start. Get the best D available from teams and pending UFA's. The goalies selected are okay, nothing to write home about. Yet. That doesn't scream competing this year. There cup window hasn't been defined yet, so there is no reason to rush it. Most of the team is on very short terms. A few guys were there in person, and are probably some of the higher profile guys. Doubt you see any of them traded any time soon. Gio looked star struck, but no doubt is a lock for C. This will be a building year for Seattle. Find fit and finish. Have enough scoring right now to keep it interesting, but its going to take tweaking and trades. (sorry Seattle for the reference to tweaking, probably a sore point)
  13. The fans have always been stuck with name brands. Coaches that people heard about years ago. Figureheads to prop up the losing culture. GM's that won a cup somewhere. Defense that were good years ago. I find it amazing that a lot of fans believe in what he is doing. Doesn't matter how confused the message is or where he goes in the other direction after saying it. Defending the Keith trade, protecting Kassian, blaming Larsson for being a douche. The media hacks suggest that its some master plan and every thing is done right.
  14. I guess the Lucic trade was the only real win for him. Player starting to decline. Oops, Neal is worse. Player had NMC. Oops, he waived it. Player had high actual dollars owing. Oops, he traded after major bonus paid, now owed less than Neal. Only cost a 3rd rounder if Neal was able to score 21. Oops, league prorated it. His reputation still has some fooled that he is the right choice. Some are catching on that he may be a quack.
  15. Well, if they trade for his rights, then yes that is possible. I must have missed that segment where he said there was a deal coming. I heard him talk about Hyman visiting EDM.
  16. I don't know what to believe. There is talk that teams have trades lined up with Seattle based on certain picks they made. Hyman in Edmonton for a visit. Would they actually be dumb enough to go for an extra year by making a trade? Well, I guess he and Nuge can grow old together. Worst days of the summer in EDM, and they bring in Hyman to show him the city? I wonder what he could do with McD or Drai? Are they that much better to play with than Matthews, Marner or Tavares or Nylander? Wingers that play with McD and Drai tend to end up with 20 or less goals. That's not exactly a win. Chaisson and Kassian can get you that.
  17. Some of them I get. Oleksiak would have cost a ton more as a UFA, and more likely would just be re-signed by Dallas. Larsson is actually a smart pick, and may have gone elsewhere as a UFA. What I don't get is why Bean wasn't picked from CAR. Is there compensation not identified yet? Like an agreed upon trade, like you take this and we will trade for him with that? Why Pitlick in ARI?
  18. If I'm not mistaken the Krak have to add on 7.6m to reach the cap floor. Talk about weaponized cap space.
  19. Karma for losing Engelland last time. Actually, Gourde may be the best player.
  20. I believe they want to compete now, so trading picks is in that wheelhouse. Except..... The picks they have traded only accound for Keith still being there. Ennis traded for a 5th - UFA 2020 2nd and 2021 2nd for Athanasiou 2020 4th round pick for Mike Green - gone 2021 3rd for Neal - potential buyout
  21. They are also talking to TO about a sign and trade to get max term. 8 years at an inflated price, plus have to pay TO for that luxury.
  22. If he's the presumptive C, then they will do a bunch of 'A' this year and forego the C for now.
  23. I will do you one better. Oilers talking to TO about a sign and trade. Get max term. 8x$5m or higher. And have to trade an asset to do it. The new Chia is in town.
  24. It seems that they know something the teams impacted don't. 🙂 I like some of the picks but see a middling team right now. Not that we are any better, but I think scoring will be an issue for them. Heard that Seattle is trading Gio for Strome out of NY. That would be dumb. Gio should be worth more than that.
  25. The only way BT would go after him is as a UFA. Sign and trade does nothing for us.
