Fitz trying to calm the masses after a brutal trade deadline.
Yup I believe he totally blew his chances for Markstrom and is now trying to mitigate collateral damage…I bet he got similar answers from Bos and Nas and burned those bridges so Allen and Kaapo where all he was able to scrap
together…probably would have been cheaper in the long run to have just got the deal done and met Conroy’s asking price…which TBH he hasn’t been horrible with in terms of Lindhom, Toffoil, Hanifin or Tanev…I’d suggest Conroy wasn’t “extorting” anything just set a price and wasn’t gonna move off it for Pennie’s on the dollar…now NJD need to probably still pay the asking price plus what they waisted away today for total junk…

You mean besides Allen?
Nope Kaapo in SJ the sent Vanecek to
SJ for him -
So NJD picked up Kaapo from SJ…is that the G they needed? I’m asking cause I don’t know…is he good?

It really seems like a Conroy has a vision of pairing offensive defensemen with physical stay at home defenders.Thats a good vision and plan! Balance.
side note, anyone else see the pattern of building the D first here? This kinda has me thinking Conroy is gonna go Iginla hunting in 2024 and gaining 2026…

The funny thing is there are fanbases would take stuck in mediocrity over what they have. Not saying I like the mediocrity, just never fun when the basement seems impossible to get out of either, for all the building and drafting high that Buffalo has done over the past 12 years I still don't see them maxing out as anything besides a mediocre team.
Thats an easy fix, their issue has ale been vision and direction…same can be said for Ottawa and even Cgy the past few years…fortunately, I fell Conroy actually has a vision and direction and he’s following it…time will tell, next year’s moves will tell the tale, this year was clearing up the Mess from BT as best he could…thats done…now we wait and see, I think draft days and this summer will give an idea

Can't say I saw this coming..
I don’t think anyone did or would have…that said he’s played well, it’s not a horrible price or cap hit, I think Ctr depth it’s a good sign

6'-1" 195 lbs.. according to https://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=208491
But still nice to see Conroy adding to the D pool.
I hope he has good skating…at 23 he has room to grow, if his skating is at least above average I can see him being a sneaky pick up.

Depth dman. Big, physical.
Build out some depth for sure and gives them some more toughness.
Typical flames
TDL move…also, he’s young so he could be a diamond in the rough…and what’s with Conroy’s love affair with Russians lol?!
the Calgary Capitals? Lol

Yeah, that piece I was hoping for in the Hanifin trade.
Oh well, Vegas is not concerned about SJS competing with them next year.
Same here but I’m hearing he’s projected as a 3rd line Ctr…that said Backlund is not going to play forever…

I've posted about this before, but two years is a long time in the NHL. Look at the Flames in 2022, vs 2024.
In 2026 Vegas will look like this.
30yr old Ivan Barbashev
29yr old Jack Eichel on an expiring deal
33yr old William Karlsson
Marchessault would be 35, if they keep him, Stephenson would be 31
36yr old Pietrangelo
30yr old Theodore will be UFA
33yr old LTIR mainstay Mark Stone may not even be playing in two years
32yr old Tomas Hertl
It's not a stretch to think the bill may finally come due for VGK by 2026. That's going to be an old team and a frachise that has traded most of their high picks. I joked that it's going to lead to McKenna, but it's a prety good chance that the VGK 2026 1st is higher than the pick in 24 or 25.
Yup you joke but…LVK will be very old and not much in the pipe

Calgary selecting Gavin McKenna as a result of VGK collapsing in 2026 will be so satisfying.
That would be fantastic!
9 minutes ago, The_People1 said:What? How can VGK afford Hertl under the cap?
Easy Bettman let’s LVK do what every they want to Do to
circumvent the cap…LVK is one of
bettman’s babies

A fun game might be guessing the conditions on the 3rd rd pick. "He has to win 5 games or it's a 7th". "Make the playoffs or it's a 6th".
Or better yet…Conroy’s TDL presser…My guess:
we looked as several option but nothing made sense for the price

Very creative mind there. Had a good laugh, but who knows? I'm pretty sure Allen isn't an upgrade over what NJ already had.
Exactly it’s an odd move by NJD, really didn’t solve a thing

That's the rub, they never do.
Their loss, I’m sure there are other teams that will want Markstrom over the next year or so…no worries

Buffalo and New Jersey, Detroit thanks you for never attempting to address your goaltending effectively. We'll take that WC spot. I mean really, they barely even try.
The Flames didn't overplay their hand, those teams have BT's old view that goalies are only a 3rd liners value.
Allen should fit their philosophy perfectly.
And when they miss the playoffs, come this summer will need to fix that issue…

1000% man. Draft day is where draft pick values balloon to its peak. Avoid buying picks on draft day. It usually doesn't end well.
Likewise, TDL is the worst time to buy roster players.
Summer is when deals are fair.
Sooo, maybe that late VCR pick becomes worth alot
more come
draft day

I do wonder if the Flames had too high of a price here. I don't think they were dealing markstrom to the Devils without Mercer plus being the deal. Fair to question if that's too high of a price and they cost themselves a decent deal/player (Holtz for example).
But in all the reading i've done, and including my own spin, I really don't think Conroy/Flames are the reason this fell apart. End of the day I just don't think the valuations were there.
Very possible the returns sucked and they said nope he’s more value to stay on the team for now…call us on draft day if you decide to offer something of value.

Definitely. If you want a shelter, then sign a vet to be the punching bag for $2-mil. We're not expected to be very good for the next 2-years. By year 3, Wolf will be 25 years old and then should be in his prime.
In the meantime, we should want to turn Markstrom into a young piece that can grow with the rest of the team for the next 3 years.
Exactly this!

I don't think Kylington is going anywhere. I think you'll see him re sign post TDL.
I think the Flames would move Mang if they got a good offer. Not sure that's going to happen though.
I agree in whole…
then thought process for me is more related to reality of guys with 3 or less years and guys around 30 by that time, what’s the point of keeping them?
I don’t think Manj moves till the summer but you gotta think he’s a guy you should consider for the right price at any time now, Kylington same, but I think you resign him then trade him
while I’d be inclined to move Markstrom now, the offers may not be worth it, hence why most are thinking this summer…not bad but if there are some good offers for Markstrom that are close I think you work them…but only if Markstrom is willing to go.
