  1. So a lot of rumours out there as of late but this one kinda makes some sense.

to Buf Kadri + Vrc 2024 first

    to Cgy Buf 2024 first

as things stand, that would give Cgy two top 10 picks…which, is probably a good gain for Cgy

its also good for Buf, they kinda need a guy like Kadri, given how he’s helped our young players this makes sense for Buf.

on the other hand, the chemistry Kadri has with our young players is a intangible asset that is hard to come by and probably needed moving forward.

in short I’m a little unsure if it’s a good move if it’s actually got some depth to this rumour…all and all I think I’d pull the pin and make that trade, if for no other reason than to have a shot at Tij and a D

Looks like we will be in the Yakemchuk or TJ range just like I was hoping a month ago.

Hopefully we land TJ…but that said there are teams That may draft him higher than 8th he’s on the exact same trajectory as his dad, and the entire NHL knows how good his dad was.

its not a lock that Tij will be as good as his dad, but pedigree dose seem to work out in the NHL, often times the next gen is even better…

personally I think Cgy’s smart play here is to Go hard after Tij…even if they win the lottery trade the top pick acquire another pick in 2025, move down a few notches and grab Tij…my asking price if I were Cgy and won the lottery is top 5 pick in 2024 and a 2025 first

  3. Is it just me? Since TDL Markstrom’s play has been subpar to put it in a nice way.

is he doing this on purpose to avoid being a tradable asset? Currently his play I can’t see a team moving on him he’s not much of an upgrade for teams like LAK, NJD etc…

or is he going into his down cycle again?

I find it odd that he was Ves. level play before the TDL and after he got upset with the trade rumours he’s been playing at maybe a backup level goalie…

either way, he’s not looking like a goalie a team Would seek

  4. I’d be OK with moving a draft pick to either Pit for Yagar or Col for Ritchie

both solid Ctrs, and both Pit and Col are in need of picks as their pools are thin.

Pit may be looking for NHL players and I could see Manji being a fit for them. Not sure they let a draft pick go, rather they would probably want a pick they are kinda looking at adding now while they have Crosby and adding picks….I

    wonder if:

    To Cgy Yagar

To pits Manji+ Vrc 2024 first

this to me seems like a good move for both teams.  I’m not sure if Pits would do that but…that’s a move I think works for Cgy

if there's a need in Buffalo, I can't see why not... and could it be a possible destination for Marky in some way or another? Or is their goaltending ok?

are they like the murky area now where they need a few top up pieces?

the Flames '04 team came together nicely. Ville N. was a huge add, Gelinas a proven performer, Simon too, and Kipper as a huge add that year. Small moves but big impacts.

is there a move that can be had with Buffalo there? Maybe.

We should trade them Andersson, Markstrom and Mangiapane, or Kuzmenko. But we'd need some firsts for this year and next year. We'd retain on Mange, Marky, or Kuz... two firsts and a second for the three? Maybe a roster player lol... I dunno I feel like I'm lowballing ourselves though.

All very true…and this draft in 2024 out side the top 10 is as unpredictable as any draft has been.  One could even

argue it’s unpredictable out side of the top 5.

this is to say, picks in this years draft are probably the most likely to move by comparison to last year and even in 2025.  In 2023 and in 2025 deeper and more talented players over all.

with that being said, I could Conroy making a move with the VCR pick…maybe trading for a young player? Again, totally depends on what other teams are thinking….heck for that matter our pick in the top 10 could be in play for a young player ready to break out. There are teams in need of futures, but I’m not

Sure those teams have any budding young prospects in the tier Cgy is looking for…Maybe LA? Bos, Col, LVK are all in need of young fresh blood and picks but also lack anything worthy of a 1st round pick…VCR may have something else to add but that’s doubtful I think after the Lindholm deal they are gonna shy away from Cgy for a bit, also I think they are in the same boat as the Bos’s, Col’s, LVK’s they are more in the adding a NHL impact player or particular need category with a young core ready to make Some noise.

on the same token…the opposite could be true with players on our team being wanted by another team…which could

result in a few picks being added in this years draft…there are a number of teams on the cusp of being serious threats so adding picks is not ideal for their window of opportunity, NJD, NYI, Buf, Ott and Det are kinda those teams with solid young core just needing a little add be it D or G in most of Those cases.  Ott is a bit of an odd one, they are missing G for sure but most importantly they seem to be missing that intangible heart and soul warrior guy.

hard to call, but Conroy has shown a preference towards young NHL or near NHL ready prospects, over draft picks.

with that in mind I wouldn’t be surprised to see him move picks for NHL or

    near NHL ready prospects, or

players being blocked on their current team depth, I’m just not sure what teams are in need of picks with young prospects or young NHL players being blocked by depth.

    Supposedly, yes.

He put up numbers that are up there with Eichel/Fantilli.  Much better offensive player than Matty Beniers.  Higher ceiling than Slafkovsky/Wright.  He projects to be a franchise game changer.  Should be as good as Stutzle.

    Not enough for

me…if we won the lottery I’d draw that down and nab another pick in 2025 (first of course) and draft Tij…at the rate Tij is going I’d bet on him being more of

a franchise changer than anyone else…gotta give him the benefit of his dad’s genes

    How low can we go?

I feel a bit ashamed/dirty looking for us to lose.  I know the players are professionals and will try their hardest every game but I really wouldn't mind them losing the next 9.

Anyone with a hint of injury should be shut down to rest for next season.

8th pick currently and I'm guessing 6th pick is a possiblity but cannot see us getting better than that.

We'll probably go on and end of season tear win 7 of 9 and picked 15/16th.

Agreed and unfortunately I can see the win streak too…but it would be smart to shut down injuries and as fans hope for close tight losses.  Get as high a pick as possible at this point IMO

I was trying to think of a scenario that would actually piss off every single one of us, but is still plausible.

    I've come up with:

Winning the lottery, and picking Tij.

    watch for it.

Well now hold the phone here a second…this may be a sensible move if some team wants Celebrini bad enough if (huge if) Cgy won 1st overall…it’s probably gonna be a top 5 team, I’d make that move in exchange for a 2025 first and their 2024 first…odds are it’s gonna be a top 10 pick in 2025 and that’s the cost id ask for Celebrini…then take Tij…i don’t think it’s safe to draft lower on Tij…then maybe even trade up with the VCR pick and maybe Marksman for maybe top 15-10 ish? Nab a D in this draft.

reason I say this is 2025 draft is deeper in high end talent…I’m not convinced Celebrini is a top 5 in the 2025 draft.

grab Tij  maybe a top end D this draft and next draft another top 10 in a really deep draft on the top end…

IDK if other teams would be willing to pay a 2025 unprotected first for Celebrini but if they are willing I’d say that’s a smart move…

  9. Well as things  are we are looking like a top 10 draft pick…

one thing seems like the teams is disjointed much like the first 1/2 of the season.  This is not a bad thing really, they just need to build chemistry and get the new guys accustomed to the team style and players. Kinda expected this having a 1/2 your regular D traded mid

season it’s gonna take time to get the chemistry right.  Add to the fact mostly new young D that haven’t had much playing time in the NHL they need to also adjust to the NHL speed and intensity.

there seem to be some good mix of player and some that we definitely need to move.  All and all it’s a perfect situation, work out the bugs let the younger guys get some experience and get a good draft pick.

I really don't like how the Flames have handled Coronato all year but my main questions right now is not for Huska it's for the front office. Why is he even up here? Never really made sense to me that the time and now looks just like a desperate move to try and salvage playoffs that were never going to happen anyway.

I just don't know what Huska can do to get Coronato playing.  Your not moving Popisil and I'm not moving Coleman so sure I guess you could drop Kuzmenko but I still think the Flames should be trying to boost that trade value. Plus I don't think you can have Kuzmenko playing 4th line because of bad his off puck play is. I don't think you play Coronato in a 4th line role here when he could be playing all situation in the A.

Just never should have been called up IMO.

The only thing I can think of is NHL playing time whenever it

make Sense  to slot him in.

i think the Manji, Kuz fit will be closely look at this off season and into next TDL

personally I’d like to see both moved so Pelletier and Coranato can get a full season of NHL adjustment time in.

as for Kuz..I can’t help but feel he’d be a great fit in Mlt…something about him just seems to fit Mlt…

as for Manji…he’d be a solid 2nd or 3rd liner nearly anywhere… he may benefit from a change of scenery.

as for returns of these two that’s is very questionable…I think as long as it’s not a total loss it’s a positive move regardless of the return cause the cap space is gonna be huge if for no other reason then the grab a few picks on taking on bad contracts and or 3rd party broker over the next couple of years…

  11. Ok so, question…

if everyone was in agreement players and teams, would you do a straight up trade:

Gaudrau to Cgy for Hubie to CBJ?

no retention just player for player, provided everyone was in agreement.

    thoughts?

    my thought is meh..

on one had Cgy saves 1-2 mil per season and I think Gaudreau is younger…

on the other hand Hubie is Canadian, and he’s a bigger body forward…

change of scenery for each player may get them going again.

  12. Personally, I think the young guys are looking good, really good over all.  The additions at D are still adjusting as is some of the reg roster guys…too much turnover in a short period to adjust.  I don’t they are tanking on purpose it’s just a natural part of the process.

I will admit Valadr has been horrible as of late, maybe lack of playing time, or the weakened play in front as of late is exposing his weaknesses IDK…either way it need to get figured out, if it’s a weakness in his game his trade value will be horrible, and keeping him to help wolf is not an option.  This is gonna be a tough call, having Markstrom in front of wolf is really not an option cause the kid need a lot more puck time at the NHL level but with Markstrom he won’t get enough… and currently im

not sure Vladar is going to cut it for up to 50% of the games.

The other thing I wonder about, is pending UFA’s in 2025 and 2026…after this year, and the turbulence of having so many in question to start the year and with most eventually having been traded I wonder if Conroy could get out ahead of that this summer and extend or trade 2024 UFA this summer and also gauge the 2026 UFA and maybe trade any that are not fully on board as of this summer…could create some stability through the season and less drama they could focus on just playing and not worry about trades and rumours.  It amy make for a young team that needs to learn but it’s gonna happen any way so may as well get out ahead of this and start building the line and D chemistry early.

The Flames have always been a "never say die" team. I think it's why I stuck with them once they went bad after the Cup win. They always fought hard in many games. Albeit, in the 90's and early 00's I only got to see them on some Saturday nights and whatever odd game they might have played the Leafs on TSN.

Boy, getting hockey on tv was such a hard task. Just take what they give you. Similar these days, but nhl should make it so a person can pay to watch one team for the season. Maybe discount it?

I paid for packages over the last 5+ years. After last years' Flames garbage, it sullied me so much I wasn't going to pay it, so old school, I now wait to watch the Flames on CBC Gem for free. Lol I should really say, the way they let Sutter run the show really showed me what kind of team the flames are, and how he treated people really was appalling.

Dude buy and Amazon fire stick, get IPTV and good internet…you can watch any game and you also get all the pay pay per views too…total

cost for a good IPTv should be about 150 and the firesticks Go On sale between 30-80 pending on which one you get.

You also get all the new movies too…just check out the different IPTV services to see which is best in your area…also be sure they are registered in canada it’s legal as long as they are legally registered. Worse case if

you get a service that’s not, it could get cancelled and then you loose that money and your looking for a new service…but like I said if You take some time and check out a bunch, there are some

    good legal ones in canada

TDL has come and gone, moves have been made and theres 20 games remaining.

    Currently:

-6 pts from last wild card spot,

    -4 pts from #8 pick

-11 of the last 20 game are divisional (15 in conference)

I'm not holding hope they'll squeeze in but I'm also not expecting them to roll over and give up either so it most likely be another "mushy middle" finish. The question is how does the season play out vs what do you want to see? Stumble into the playoffs only to face Dallas, Winnipeg or Vancouver (which has trade condition implications) or pick in the mid teens again and hope it turns into a roster player eventually.

There wasnt alot of expectations going into the season but the future looks bright. As a diehard I want to see them get in but if youre going to do a reset this is the time. New faces, new attitudes, new start come October.

We’ll had they traded Markstrom this would not be an issue…unless maybe he gets injured but no fan wants to see a player injury…

gotta hope the teams we play in the last 20 games have more reason, talent and drive to win and hope they loose most of them.  Having said that I’d like for them to be close losses no blow out losses. Like tonin FLA

Miramanov has a Hard Shot Td he injured a guy with his shot

I wonder if him and the other Russian O-something would make a good pair? He’s Mira is offensive RD and…well for now I’m gonna cal him O…is a defensive LD?

that could line the D Up something like:

    Anderson/Weegar

    Pach/Kylington

    Mir/Oky

in theory, if the Russians click, that could be some decent chemistry and a reasonable D core…im

not 100% sure if Pach is a defensive D or not, Kylington is a smooth transition offensive D…in theory has the makings for a strong D if they all have chemistry.

All good points ..but most are on the premise that the flames want to move him... They are willing to, obviously.. but I see nothing wrong with setting a price . Meet it, fine..dont, we're quite content to let him run our nets for the next 2 years

After July 1, the focus shifts to the next 2 contestants on "will he sign or won't be" ..  mangiapane and Kuzmenko

Hopefully Kuzmenk signs and Manji get traded…if No other reason he was part of the old guard time for a change for both team and player

I agree, this is why I wonder if the Flames over played their hand. The assumption is the goalie market will get better but i'm not so sure I see it the same way. There are going to be options and if the Devils thought Calgary's price was too high yesterday, why would the suddenly pay it in the summer?

I do think Ilya Sorokin is a pretty interesting free agent. 29, wasn't that long ago some thought he was amongst the better goalie in the league.

Ullmark is really interesting. Sounds like there was a deal in place yesterday to go to LA and he said no Will he say no again in the summer or did he just not want to move at the deadline?

What does Florida do with Knight? There were some suggestions they were open to moving him.

Lots of moving parts to the goalie market. Flames might have more options to negotiate with but i'm not so sure it's going to lead to the type of deal they are after.

All good points but consider this…

we don’t have to move Markstrom this summer, maybe keep him till next TDL? Teams will make their mistakes and then have to pay up to correct it next TDL.

the only issue is Markstrom could have a down year next year so it’s risky now matter what you do…but hard to fault Conroy, who’s to say the offer wasn’t a 3rd rounder and some low

    level prospect?

I will say if the offer was a first+ (maybe Holtz?) then that deal

    aught to have been done.

again we don’t and won’t know for sure and TDL is over so all moot, now is the time to focus on what’s next Draft and UFA and next season up To TDL.  This is a tough one cause even if Marky plays well next season, then knowing this team they will run with him to UFA and get squat (low Return as a rental) and trade Vladar for very little this year…not ideal but I can see that happening
