  1. One thing I liked from what I saw from a game at LCA was the glass corridor the Wings go through from lockerroom to ice. It looked like it literally went through a sports bar type area where the fans can get up close as the players went through. Lets hope designers and engineers focus in whats inside rather than what it looks like from outside
  2. I think they had no other option to reno MSG. Besides it being a Manhattan landmark where would you put a new one? Even though I'm not a local so it doesnt effect me too much I'm always in favor of functionality over esthetics (sightlines, attendee convienance, player needs). But as its part of a bigger project it does need to be a nice place to be outside of game/event days. Just hope they design it with a bit bigger seats than the CL Place here. I'm not skinny by any measure nor am I a large person but literally touching shoulder to shoulder with your neighbors is not a pleasant experience.
  3. 35 years is a long time. Whats the life expectancy of an arena nowadays? City official says Calgary Flames arena deal to include 35-year commitment to stay | TSN
  4. Sutter hockey was never about taking risks. Consistent, steady, defense first was the plan it seemed. Dependent on the coaching I think we'll see at minimum, a more exciting style next season to the benefit of quite a few of the players.
  5. Spot on with that comparison. I'm not seeing much difference with Bennett now than with his time in Calgary. Maybe a little better #s in the regular season now but even in FLA his regular season performance is basically ok but severely not 4OA worthy. His impact in the playoffs is exactly what weve seen as a Flame. Chucky is what he is, FLA knew what he was capable of when they got him. I did really like Lomberg, every team needs more like him. 100% effort, 100% energy, and willing to drag everyone else onto battle if needed.
  6. Lots to take in there and I agree with most of what youre saying. But....... The Dome issue is neither a GM issue or something that will change for at least 3-4 years. If someone is going to use the facility as an excuse not to sign in Calgary thats not someone you want around anyway AFAIC. With all the other circus drama of the last few off seasons, and the chronic underachievement of the last 15+ years I dont think anyone (ie: ownership) is overly sensitive to anyones criticisms, losing out on Love wouldnt be a major blip on their radar. Whats the plan if Markstrom/Vladar fail? I never was sold on Marky being the answer when he was signed but I'm also not going to blame him for the teams woes. Marky has shown us what he is capable of good and bad, we'll see which side we get this season. I'm hoping with a more balanced rotation we'll see better results from whomever is in the net. Totally agree, and I think Hanifin and saldy Tanev need to go. Hanifin is barely worth his current pay, let someone else worry about his new contract. Even though Tanev is the best defensive D man on the roster his shot blocking and D style are taking a toll on him physically and we've seen what happens when he's off in sick bay. Trade Hanifin for a stable D first D-man, get a pick or two for Tanev. I hope a good coach can tighten up Ras and Zads defensive game. As unpopular as it may be I think with the addition of Weegar, Kylington becomes expendable if he doesnt come back in top form.
  7. This says to me that its more of a re-tool as opposed to the other R word. But having this out in the open lets the pending UFAs know what to expect in the next few years so maybe someone looking to be on a contender may waive certain movement clauses either now or closer to TDL. I dont expect anyone to have the same reservations they had at seasons end but maybe theres already plans for the FAs going forward.
  8. "Senior mgmt role" to me is most likely POHO. Which more or less should be the go-between for Conroy and ownership. Nonis has been around a long time, maybe thats whats needed to give the owners some direction and idea of reasonable expectations.
  9. The longer the Cats play the more Gudas's contract will cost, and at 33 years old I think thats the wrong direction the team needs. I'm hoping with a new direction in mgmt the Flames start straying away from those types of deals.
  10. I forgot all about Kylington. His status changes line up options alot. I think Tanev would be the next in line to move out but where does that leave you defensively? Do you ship out your defence first veteran in hopes Kylington gets back up to game speed quickly? And does that leave any hope or room for anyone trying to make the jump from the Wranglers?
  11. Loaded no, but I dont think moving him and not replacing him sets them back too much. I dont follow any of the advanced stats and it was a limited viewing but I liked Stecher. If Hanifin goes (dont forget he has an 8 team no trade list) then you sign Stetcher to a 1 year term for the same money. Re sign Stone for the exact role and money hes had (Tanev is always an injury risk) and leave an open spot for one of the farm guys, they can be third pair with Tanev if needed. Savings on Hanifins contract basically washes out with Hubies raise.
  12. Some parties may consider that the possible onset of the R word.
  13. Reynolds is part of a business group that had interest in the Sens. Seems to be a fairly astute businessman but most likely would only have been a face to the organization. Which isnt bad as most of the stuff he's involved in turns a profit. Another group that includes Snoop Dogg is apparently also interested in the Sens, again another celeb that seems to be smart on the business ends of things.
  14. I think the better numbers to look at are shots vs goals for and shots against vs goals allowed (per game). The Flames were 2 OA in shots for but 19th in goals. Shots against they were 3rd and 13th for GA. Collectively the team was slightly in the top half defensively but as for goals they were almost in the bottom third. High volume/ low chance shots only make opposing goalies look good, even the 2nd or 3rd string ones.
  15. Altered it to fit my narrative as I still think the owners will still have influence on the teams direction.
  16. I would think if it was mental health then the team and league especially would want it known that they are there for Kylington with player supports and programs. Especially if it could be eventually linked to concussion or head injury.
  17. How so? He had a roster spot and was pegged as part of the defensive future of the team. As a fan I find it strange/concerning that in this day and age there has been zero news (that Ive heard) concerning his absence. Someone is going extra hard to keep this under wraps.
  18. So how quickly do the Flames need to hire a GM and coach? I would assume that the scouts have their favorites regardless of whos hired but would a fresh GM put 100% faith in scouts he may have a very limited relationship with? Also is getting a coach in place beforehand factor into the draft plan?
  19. No worries. It just woke up the anti trackers, nothing malicious. I see alot worse when I gotta stream games from some of those dodgy sites.
  20. I dunno if it means anything but do any of the locals know the credibility of this Jake Hughes that apparently has an inside track over the more mainstream sources? Also the website itself was broken and set off a bunch of my browsers anti trackers.
  21. Watching the games it did seem that for the majority there diid seem to be some disengagement on the Jets side. It was very noticable in the last game where you would thing the intensity would be at 100.
  22. He's also said that his comments were mostly reactionary of the moment. He has somewhat backpedeled and said he didnt choose his words properly but didnt change his view of the performance. He's signed for 2 more seasons and a team wouldnt let a coach go mid-contract, would they?
  23. Yes you do have a knack of bringing out the best in people.
