  1. Downtown sucks for everyone in the burbs or surrounding communities. So what’s your point? There is no perfect location.
  2. Nenshi's ego is still a problem and unless they are able to muzzle him it'll be tough sledding, even with the need for movement for Olympic purposes. I mean the motion was to start with no preconceptions, but before it even got reported Nenshi declares the West Village is a non-option. Not too hopeful....
  3. Peters seems to have a different attitude, at least from his comments like Anderson was a PP guy in the AHL so should be able to bring that, Brodie possible RD.... I’m hopeful that he gives guys a chance where they belong. I guess the very first opportunity we’ll get to see him in any capacity will be development camp in July.
  4. Let's see, what do we the fans know now that only the team knew before? Your 1C was hurt and playing through multiple injuries after getting shot up before every game. Your 1G was seriously injured and instead of day-to-day that was put out for the media he'd be out for more than a month. Your 2RW was also out injured, and your 1RW was playing through an injury as well. Of course everyone knew their 3RW was injured from near the start of the season and had already (?) been shipped off to Europe, and their 3LW/RW/PP specialist was recovering from surgery and never would make it back before the end of the season. What we did not know then was that our 2LW/PP demon and emotional spark plug would get injured and miss the last month of the season. There was probably more. In spite of all this, the team was sitting in a playoff position, even up to 2nd in the Division but the competition was fierce with multiple good teams going to miss out and it seemed like every single game was a must-win. Now that I'm sitting here 20:20 hindsight I'm pretty sure it would have been apparent that our chances were pretty dismal and that throwing away more high picks for a top-end rental was foolhardy. Hmmm, I guess even in retrospect BT did a pretty fine job at TDL.
  5. Yes, good points. I still believe the Flame's original proposal is the best long-term solution for all of Calgary (albeit financing issues aside), but you need some leaders to step up or it'll never get done.
  6. Mac, You agree with the way it played out with personnel but not with results. Don’t you think there is a connection? Virtually every AHL guy that got called up “earned it” prior to the call, as well as deserved to play when called instead of sitting to allow games for Bartkowski... Brouwer, Stajan... do we really need to go over the same things again and again? The essence of the Warrener comment is playing the best players vs best development, and individual player motivations. Sure there are valid arguments each way, but to me if there is no valid competition from below it breeds complacency, which is just what Warrener said. I think you can make a strong argument it has in fact happened with the Flames.... just another thing that needs to be addressed.
  7. No, disagree 100%, Warrener is right on. When you reward incompetence/poor play while at the same time ignoring stellar play at lower levels you are responsible for the attitudes of complacency that develop.
  8. Brouwer, Jagr, Stewart, Glass, Bartkowski...
  9. Oh boy, more over-the-hill, overpaid vets. Yikes, will we never learn? I don’t believe that the team was “fragile” because of too few vets. Rather it was because of poor coaching, promoting guys even though they did not deserve it, lack of accountability and developing a system that targeted effort and not results. In addition planning to win by just getting to overtime then letting a couple skaters get the win rather than learning to crush teams when they were down. The litany of bad management and coaching on this team is extensive, including trying to build around too many vets that should have hung em up years ago. Man, some of you guys sound like BT... can’t understand why we failed...we have such a great D... unprecedented bad luck.... we were one of the leagues best Possesion teams.... and on it goes. Give your head a shake. Flames had nearly the worst home record in the league. PP was terrible almost all year. How many starters that could score a couple goals all year? Terrible goal differential all year long. Never scored a goalie-pulled goal all year? Brouwer was our best right shot forward all year? Coach takes months to make a move that was obvious in days.....
  10. I agree that is how he SHOULD be thinking, but pre-season statements about being Cup contenders, and in-season bafflement about home woe because Corsi, and now seeming confusion paints a different picture. Up until recently I would have agreed with you. Hopefully I’m wrong.
  11. Yup, unfortunately it is becoming clearer by the day that BT is also in shock and believes we had a great team and somehow just missed. He’s still hung up on the Corsi lie and so unless he has a revelation soon, he’ll end up the biggest problem. That’s bad because it’ll be more of the same plus big deals for all the wrong reasons...

Smith, Rittich, Gillies, Parsons, McDonald and Schneider. We have three teams and 6 goalies to accommodate. I don’t see the problem. You can rotate guys around based on their play. If you give Schneider the ECHL, then yes, we need to drop one. To me Rittich was very good as a backup but failed as a #1 starter, the same as happened in the AHL. Gillies is developing still, as is Parsons. They are the keepers.
  13. I agree BT should get another chance, but, to be sure BT owns this mess and its his fingerprints all over it. He came in and wanted a Corsi possession team. He's got it. He went all-in this season and this is the result. BT is great at contract negotiations and drafting too, but outside of that he's been meh, at best and verging on terrible. Just like the team , the gM/management need to be firing on pretty much all cylinders to be successful. BT is not. GG HAS TO GO, at the very minimum, and let's give BT another chance and see what he's learned.

As many have said before, goalies are interesting animals. Just look at Matt Murray with Pittsburg. A couple great seasons in the AHL and playoffs with Vezina winner Fleury and a powerhouse team beside him, now he’s stinking out the joint once Fluery is gone and he is carrying all the pressure. You could say the same about Edmonton’s keeper. I think Gillies is doing just fine, getting better each year.
  15. Doubt it would happen, but Notley might garner a lot of Calgary support and win again if she threw her support into the Calgary clean-up and renovation of the riverside district....
  16. Offshoots of hemp (clothing industry) and hemp hearts (nutrition) with the right types.....
  17. I like those pairings and think they are definitely worth a try. At the very least it'll serve notice that things need to change and get the players' attention. It'll also allow a much better evaluation of Hamonic which we also sorely need.
  18. Agree fully, and will even go further with the obvious trip on Jagr in the corner of the O zone late in the game, with the ref looking right at it. As a fan this is totally frustrating. It would be nice to know there is some accountability of the refs via the league but I don't know of any if there is.
  19. I believe you are very far off as far as the goalies go. We have a solid and very promising pipeline and with Rittich now up in the NHL as a backup we have a clear path towards bringing them all along over the next year or two, even ignoring the possibility that Lack comes around with more games. The team appears to have misjudged our current strength, and the need to solidify 4D but even that can still come around with perhaps a few tweaks. Honestly, I believe we have the pieces in place but the leadership and direction (coaching) isn't helping matters at the moment and if that changes, or the team somehow comes together we can still make it interesting this year. Face it, as much as the team is inconsistent we are still only 1 pt out of a playoff spot. Frustrating yes and looking like we are heading in the wrong direction but NOT the end of the world.
  20. Great, the first of several, I'd think.
  21. Absolutely. We should dump GG and get a hard Hash Rate, yet enlightened coach, send Freddie to Stockton and bench whoever doesn't want to play tough.
  22. Yeah, becoming less and less enthralled with GG every passing day. Good to see him get agitated but how he handles players doesn't seem to be working. Sending a message to Jankowski seems premature, especially when he should have been ripping about a third of the team before he even thought of Jankowski. Still hard to believe Bennett 0-0-0, how does that happen when I think he's played some good games? Something has got to give soon, results count.

Nice discussion about kids, but you’re making me laugh saying Smith stunk against McDavid and Ottawa. Let’s see, he stopped 2 of three breakaways against McDavid, and let in zero stinkers against Ottawa. Sometimes, when you let great shooters, like Hoffman and Stone and McDavid have wide-open point blank shots they score, and the “fault”doesn’t actually belong to the goalie but to the players in front of him.
