Most players aren't unfortunate enough to play for the Oilers.

That's certainly an option no one has suggested yet. Who might we target?

Robert is... often irate about one thing or another. I tend to disagree with him on most points. If nothing else though, he has enough passion for the team to be irate on calls to Fan960. Speaking of... do the Oilers have an "overtime" call-in show? If they did, it probably got scraped some time ago because it was a negativity fest. Can you imagine callers phoning in about jerseys being thrown to the ice and such?

I don't think Hamilton's been inconsistent. He was bad early in the year consistently and now that he's used to the system, he's been consistently good.
-
So Gio has a career high 15 goals now. Pretty darn good.
-
I don't think the NHL would let us do last man back is the goaltender rules. We could target Mr. Andersen by way of a three team exchange so we pay less.

Downside is he's not a tall guy by GK standards. He might be able to make up for it with his on ice acrobatics and ability to cause pucks to gravitate toward him, blocking them without intending or realizing it. He just needs to work on his rebound control eh.

Heck no! We do NOT need to sign Hiller, especially at $3 mil. Leland... didn't he go to Europe? Also no to the Price suggestion, but that was a joke so....

Really? He seems like a hilarious guy... but maybe not that great a 'tender. His quotes are the best.

If Ortio does really bad... we could strap the pads on Russell. I'm sure he'd love to have a lot more padding for shotblocks. It'd be like going back to goalies of the old days, a throwback style. Maybe some of you remember those years eh? I don't. I'm just going to put this here. “OK, they fire the puck from the blue line. Chief usually yelling ‘block the shot’ at the defensemen. They doesn’t have the goalie gear, but they have to block the shot. So who is more crazy, me or the defensemen? Who is more weird?” ~Bryz

Hey, we might get better odds at a 1-3 pick.

That might be worth it. We'd probably have to give out as much cap for a UFA.

Calgary Flames Drafting and Development: Your Analysis
xstrike replied to rickross's topic in Flames Talk
For me, if they're not competing for the Calder cup, then it's disappointing because I think being in that race is good for development. If so, our F prospect pool is yuck. Is Granlund counted in that? We're going to need 2-3 top sixers and I don't think one wants to be spending a lot of cap in the FA market. -
Calgary Flames Drafting and Development: Your Analysis
xstrike replied to rickross's topic in Flames Talk
I don't hold him up as an example. I only meant that others might. My whole post was about things that are happening that may be the evidence for some as to their view in this discussion. Whether the expectations for all the players (Ortio, Granlund etc not just Sven) were misplaced I think is relevant. If we expect them all to be top players and they don't pan out there, were they ever going to be top players or did we as fans want more from them and so blame development. -
Calgary Flames Drafting and Development: Your Analysis
xstrike replied to rickross's topic in Flames Talk
Sven might be the biggest example of things not working out. Ortio falling on his face wasn't pleasant either. T-spoon was thought to be ready 2 years ago and seems to be regressing (in some eyes). Granlund was probably hoped to be further along, Porrier is stuttering a bit, etc. Whether the expectation was too high or our development inadequate is difficult to discern. -
Stockton Heat Updates [2016-2017]

Ep! I wanted to get Grant up here post TDL. -
Well, I really meant which young tender we might pick at the draft, but trades are fine too.

At the time of the trade I was a bit iffy. I liked Broissoit and thought he would be a good GK in the NHL eventually so I wasn't thrilled with the trade. Now I really don't like it because Smid's contract is terrible for what we get. Smid seems like a decent human being so I like him as a person, just not so much as a player with his contract hit. To get back to tending, do you think the Flames are going to use any draft picks on a GK this year? If so, who do you think we should or could pick?

I suppose they have to pay high in order to lure people to the organization. In the hunt for yet another #1 pick. Really, I'm not sure how some of their older #1 OA players muster up the energy to play anymore. Eberle: 6-7 years of being stuck on an awful team. Hall: 5 years of being stuck on an awful team. RNH: 4 years of being stuck on an awful team. Yakupov: 3 years of being stuck on an awful team.

What do y'all think about going after Keith Kinkaid? He has a $725,000 cap hit for next season so he's not expensive, he wants to be a #1 GK but with Schneider getting a 7 year deal, may be blocked from doing that in NJ. He's 26 so old enough to mature in the pros but not so old as to be an anchor. I think he's on the cusp of breaking into the NHL if only as a backup with potential for more. This might be one of those possible Kipper finds. Don't know what the Devils would want for him, but I'd be interested in a trade.

Is Ilya still in Bryziness? On a serious note, I took a look around the league to see who the potential Kippers were. I'm not done yet, but here's some names so far. I'm not saying they are the next Kipper, just they are possible younglings. *s are people I might seriously consider. Now we have some new talking points. MAREK LANGHAMER ANDERS LINDBACK JEREMY SMITH LINUS ULLMARK* IVAN NALIMOV CALVIN PICKARD ANTON FORSBERG* JARED COREAU BRODY HOFFMAN DARCY KUEMPER Mike Condon MAREK MAZANEC KEITH KINKAID CHRISTOPHER GIBSON MAGNUS HELLBERG
