That works even better. I think BE and CJ are going to be a good team. BE has some questions as to how many games he can play but CJ played pretty well as the replacement starter for the Sabers. So if BE is injured or needs more rest, I'm pretty comfortable with CJ as a backup/relief option.

So I think BE was officially introduced today. They had him on the phone on the NHL Network and it sounds like he's pretty excited to be joining our team. If anyone wants, I can link the video.
  3. That's my fault, I thought I'd typed it, but it was top 5 teams for forwards 25 and younger. I didn't think the Flames would get much recognition, nor would be placed above EDM, so I was quite happy. They mentioned Bennett briefly but had Tkachuk as a featured player.
  4. NHL Tonight EJ Hradek, top 5 teams with 25 and younger players. Want to guess where EDM and CGY rank?
  5. Speculation and such are part of the fun on the boards. Where's JJ at? He usually has an... unorthodox suggestion that keeps us all on our toes. (No slight to JJ, it's nice to have a drastically different opinion to shake things up.)
  6. Grant's been signed by the Sabers for next year. I do want to see a few moves for some AHL centers, but those will hardly be anchor deals.
  7. I guess I thought Schneider was older as well as Bruce. Stockton's website isn't up to date so it was a bit tricky on a few. I put question marks next to ones I was sure would be on the team (whether to Jr. or NHL or other). I put ?? next to Tuulola because some want him in the conversation. I think it's quite unlikely personally. I did miss Shinkaruk and Prybil though. Oops. So, here's what I've got then. Assuming none of the above makes the Flames. Shinkaruk - Janko - Porrier #1 Mangia- Vey - Prybil #2a Pollock- Hamilton - Smith #2b Klimchuk - ? - Carroll #4 ? ? extras Tried to balance lines. Mangia and Pollock could switch too. I'm not sure who 4th line center will be; nor the extras T-spoon - Kulak Kylington - Morrison Culak - Andersson Kanzig Again, a balancing act. Don't have enough RDs but don't think Morrison nor Andersson get top line. Kylington is a good skater, so might be a good pair with Morrison. Culak adds some experience for Anderson. Of course, AHL is more fluid than NHL rosters due to double headers. Gillies Rittich
  8. I think this would be the right thread.... I was trying to make an AHL projected lineup with the NHL line up in the Potential Roster thread. What I found though was we seem a little short on centers after our QO deadline hit. With that in mind, I thought it might be fun to discuss a new topic. Projected Heat players Forward Mangiapane LW Smith RW Carroll RW Jankowski C Klimchuk LW Hathaway? RW Hamilton? C/RW Vey? C/RW Porrier RW/LW Pollock LW Harisson RW Tuulola?? I only see 3 centers on there, one of which may be with the big club. Unless they plan to bring some players back who they didn't QO, we're a bit short on centers. Defence Andersson Kylington Morrison Kulak Culkin Kanzig T-Spoon Stevenson? Bruce? Johnson? Lots of D, even if Bruce goes to the ECHL and Stevenson and Johnson are cut. Goaltender Gilles Rittich Schneider? Don't know if Schneider can go back to junior or not... Did I miss anyone? What's your projected line up?

Could probably get Reimer for a decent contract.

If that's what they want I'd just hang up the phone right then. Heck no. (Now to remember to return the favor and toss two boat anchors to them given the chance.)

Darn, I was hoping we could get Andersen... somehow. Well, who do I want now...? ...Um, is there anyone good left with whom we actually have a chance? Maybe we could get Reimer as a cheap back up... yay....

Unexpected eh? David Rittich comes into camp like a bat outta Czech and lights it up in the crease. He steals the starting job at the price of having to reice the goalie crease.

Think he'll still be there by the 7th round? Rinne is a 7th round pick. Ya never know.
  15. Kinda off thread topic, but quickly on expansion, I was hearing a few musings about a relocation instead of expansion. Rumor is that the Carolina ownership wants out. If you move Carolina to Las Vegas, you even the conferences back out (15 and 15). A team that is already put together is probably better than any expansion draft dumpster diving. It makes some sense really and wasn't Q City maybe a little behind for expansion this season? While I'm thinking about it, Phoenix isn't exactly thriving either. Plus with the battle to find a rink in which to play, they may be another relocation instead of expansion option. It'd kinda such for us, because there wouldn't be the cheap GK market.
  16. Bollig: NO!!!!! I like Kylington as a prospect. I think he has a lot of potential but is very raw, which is why he should stay in Stockton to get some more refinement. I hope BB doesn't want him playing with the big club now (outside of preseason or final game callup).
  17. I'm not really a fan of the Hartley firing, but I will say that he got away from what made him a Jack Adams winner. He got away from always earned. He made some strange player usage choices and seemed pretty infatuated with Hiller. He couldn't adapt to other teams defense of our D breakout. He wasn't able to design a system ahead of the curve like he did that JA year. He was less willing to give the young'ens a chance, which was what helped us elevate our play to make the playoffs.
  18. I'm not the biggest Engelland fan, but he's not been terrible when moved into the top 4 this year. Could the contract be better? Yes. Is it MayRay bad? No. I'm ok with it. I don't like it but I don't hate it. Here's a fun mental exercise. Put our goaltenders onto a current playoff team for this regular season. Does that team make the playoffs still? Is it the system or is it the goaltending?
  19. If we average everything out, we get Trades: 3.625/C+ Free Agency: 3/C Extensions: 3.75=B- Still happy with those grades?
  20. Joki and Ky were the most impressive for me of the newbies. I didn't know who Kevin was besides he had a hard name to pronounce correctly. I'm not sure many here did know much about him. He didn't seem out of place though. For a 24-y-o d-man, playing top 4, that's not bad. It's not bad at all. Ky, in his very limited showing, isn't ready for the NHL. He's very raw, but how many 18-y-o defenceman aren't? What I do like is his skating skills. That and in the rawness, I see some tools that can be sharpened and honed with time and effort. Tools that could produce a good D-man. He fell in the draft, so getting him with a lesser pick is just even better if he turns out. Btw, Joki's a 7th round picks. according to TSN, a 7th round pick only has a 9.2% chance of playing at least 100 games in the NHL. Joki is up to 91 now. Btw, is he expansion draft eligible for this season or next?
  21. As someone who lived in Calgary in his youth (age 8-13), I am enjoying this debate as I knew nothing about these issues back then. Also, one suggestion, instead of building up, we could build down. Ie, find a plot of land big enough that fits all the criteria for transit and location, then build under whatever is there. The cost to build underground is probably less than to clean up the contaminated area. Besides, how cool would it be to have the only NHL arena that could double as a disaster bunker? The benefits are that you are protected from all the elements, the ground provides some natural insulation, the novelty attraction, and all the usage for emergency shelters. Charge the owners of other buildings a fee to connect up to our stadium (not including the owners of the land we built under) and you can get some funds. Anyone have any good name suggestions for this proposed arena? [i am mostly joking, but building underneath current downtown could solve some of the available land issues and come on you have to admit that it's a cool idea (and more feasible than a sky stadium)] *x-strike is currently pot stirring with reckless abandon*

I'd get it if he was good against the Ducks, but in (one of) his last game(s) he received a thrashing at the hands of the team that dumped him and if that wasn't a bad enough memory, he got yanked after 6 minutes and 51 seconds. That's got to feel awful. The Flames put him in a situation in which he was going to fail or he put himself in it if he requested this game. Play him against the Nucks. He'd at least have a chance and if he blows it... well we're one loss closer to the draft lottery.

Some of you may have seen this video, some of you may not. I think it is really useful to visualize how changes would look. It's probably on the extreme end of what can/will be done, but I think it serves its purpose. http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/hirsch-explains-how-to-fix-the-problem-with-goalie-equipment-2/

Might as well start Backs for B2B games. We know Hiller won't play well. Might as well go with someone who might have a chance.
  25. I feel like Kris Russell. 7+ blocked shots in my last soccer game.

Oh aye. I''m not referring to pain level, rather how many times I deliberately put myself in the shooting lane and made a block.

We didn't win the possession numbers.
