  1. Kehatch mentioned earlier that if it does not include Gio, Brodie, Bennett, Monahan and Gaudreau then maybe something could be done. I’ll go a few steps further and include Bouma, Hudler, Russell and our 2015 1st as off limits as well. We are a bubble team, 20% of the season will remain after the TDL. If we fail to make the playoffs then we’ll have a legitimate shot at the lottery pick, albeit small. We cannot give that up. If a deal can be had for any remaining players and picks then we could maybe consider it, but I’m thinking TML wants much more. I’d like to exclude Jones, Backlund, Byron, Jooris and Colburn as well but we’d have to offer something in return. What can I say, I like my team.
  2. That’s an interesting perspective with all D playing equal time. Should we give them equal PP and SH time too, equal zone starts, maybe start paying them all the same as well? ----------- How did this over playing our top D pairing come into play? Are Brodano complaining? Are they not getting the job done? Has their game receded? ----------- Here is a look at the past SC champions and the TOI for their top dman during the playoffs. 2014, LA, Doughty, 28:45 2013, CHI, Keith, 27:37 2012, LA, Doughty, 26:08 2011, BOS, Chara, 27:39 2010, CHI, Keith, 28:11 I still see Brodano joining the rush, creating offense, that's not a sign of tired dmen. They are handling the 25 min nicely.
  3. I think your top pairing should be getting 25 min a night, that's why they're your top pairing. Compare our top pairing to other top pairings in the league. Would LA be as effective if the took some of Doughty's 30 min away? How about Weber? I wouldn't want our top pairing playing any less than the 25 min. The second pairing seems on track as well. The third pairing picks up the slack.
  4. First of all, if you want Kessel it will probably cost at least two of the following three players; Monahan, Bennett, 2015 1st pick. If you can stomach that you will then have his 8M cap hit for the next 7 years. I you still have an appetite for this TML blunder, then you will have to put up with well known facts that have be previously stated by past coaches, here are just a couple; http://news.nationalpost.com/2015/01/06/ex-toronto-maple-leafs-coach-ron-wilson-sounds-off-on-uncoachable-core-phil-kessel-after-randy-carlyle-firing/ http://www.thehockeynews.com/blog/maple-leafs-assistant-calls-out-phil-kessel-will-toronto-overreact/
  5. I'll 3rd that. That would be the same as naming your unborn child before you new what sex it was. You don't do it.
  6. I think he was pretty big in some BOS runs as well. Shipping him to BOS after the 04 run was the beginning of our collapse. If we are targeting EDM defense, this is the guy you go after, not Petry, imo.
  7. Weber, Josi, Jones & Ellis? Keith, Seabrook. Hjalmarsson & Oduja? Enstrom, Trouba, Bogosian, Stuart with Buff in case 1 (or more) is injured? All 3 are in the western conference. With St. L that puts the Flames 5th. ************************************************************ And our record is 4-3 vs those teams, maybe you should look to the east. I missed STL.
  8. Flames win vs SJ I think our top 4 dmen are getting the job done, we don’t need to tinker with these 4 guys at this time. I’ve been reading suggestions all over the place about adding a top 1-4 dman. Why? Why would you want to mess with the chemistry that is getting the job done? Why sacrifice the future (picks and prospects) for what could turn out to be just a rental anyways. ------------- My question is; if you add this 1-4 dman which existing dman do you plan on sending to the 3rd pairing? Our 3rd pairing dmen are getting 10 min a night. Do you want Russell down there? I don’t. Do you want Wideman, our most expensive and productive goal scoring dman down there? I don’t. I agree, we could improve our bottom pairing but adding a top 4 at this time is a mistake IMO, we don’t need it. If we add a dman it should be a bottom pairing defensive dman that reduces the times the puck enters our net.
  9. Nonsense. He had days off between previous 4 games. There was no travel between SJ, LA or ANA games. He was 4-0 with a 0.958? SV%. You ride the hot goaltender given the situation. What would you be saying if they started Hiller and he was pulled after the first 4 goals? Something appears to be up.
  10. So Hillers 0.911 this year is better than Ramo's 0.911 last year?

I remember Clarke getting a stick to the head. So he scored a winning goal.

Come to think of it, I wonder how many times Probert alone hit Domi over the head?

  12. I think we're stuck with our bottom pairing dmen and IMO that's not a terrible thing. They get beat up pretty bad on these board but IMO they're a serviceable bottom pairing. If you want to compare them the Brodano then sure they're bad. Yes, they are over paid but that's the price you pay for drawing players through FA. We took Smid for a kid that would never play in this league (that was a good deal). I wouldn't want to go in the corner with Engelland, that's the toughness this team is lacking. I agree with you on Raymond and Bollig, I'd be hesitant to subtract any other at this time from the lineup.
  13. IMO, Ortio is one lose away from being sent down. In the meantime lets enjoy the W's and reward the kid for several years of good play. Flames need to show him there is light at the end of tunnel. I don't think there is any hurry on moving a GT but you can been the issue is now being discussed and explored.
  14. No surprise there. Hartley has been consistent with his goalies. The message has been clear for two years now, if you win you play again. The Flames have room on the roster for 3 goaltenders, its not ideal and no one likes it but Ortio. W's provide for an exception.
  15. Maybe just a rough outing but Mrazek was pulled tonight vs BUF after allowing 3 goals on the first 7 shots. Tom McCollum (1 NHL game) came in as relief. DET is trying to down play their goal tender issues. When they say min 2 weeks for Howard after being stretchered off I'd say they're off by at least two weeks.
  16. Ortio is not going anywhere, at least not until he loses. That's 3 wins now, let's hope he can win 10 straight Go Ortio, Go Flames!

  18. I was out of country and missed last weeks DET game so I haven't had a chance to see Mrazek play. Looking at his stats, he does look good. The stage is now his, no one in front of him, lets see what he can do. I think DET is still looking for a GT.
  19. I’m not in love with Hiller (33 yrs) or Ramo (28.5yr), neither has out played the other IMO, but both have been doing a decent job. Sure Hiller has 5 more wins but he also has had 13 more opportunities. Ramo proved last year that he can play in this league, this year he started well but then had a couple of shaky starts resulting in Hiller getting the bulk of the opportunities. --------------- Ortio is knocking on the door and has already negotiated a big raise next season, his chances are good to be here FT next year. If we could gain some promising young talent this year in exchange for either Hiller or Ramo I’d be tempted. --------------- Right now Hiller may bring us the best return, that would leave us with two fellow Finnish countrymen (Ramo/Ortio) to guard the pipes. Not bad! --------------- DET appears to be in the market for a GT. Howard was stretchered off last night which looks like a severe groin pull. Their backup GT has been out due to injury since early Nov which leaves them a 3rd string starter and a 4th string backup. Maybe a deal can be had right now with DET?
  20. Win vs Kings. Thanks for the Hat Trick Johnny!
  21. Our defense is no longer providing the offense, which is coincidental with our 7 game losing streak.
