      Cammi who?

Johnny on pace for 63 if he gets points based on all his games, including the 6 w/o points.

If Gordie Howe is "Mr Hockey", and Johnny Gaudreau is "Johnny Hockey", does that mean that Gordie Howe and Johnny Gaudreau are related?

Johnny Hockey is the exact same size - and looks exactly the same - as Mr. Hockey did when he was 11. Love Johnny Hockey but Jarome was as close as we'll ever get in Calgary to Mr. Hockey.

^ Goaltending thread guys. Lets get the topic back on track.

5 isn't a word. ************************************************ I'd like to see 20 starts for Ortio at the NHL level before I'd be singing his praises. Is he doing a bang up job right now? For sure. But I'd be a little reserved before giving him the keys to the mansion. Hiller is a proven starter and even he fell back to earth after putting on a show in the first quarter of the season. This discussion is much too early.

Orts most likely starts in SJ, however, even if he backstops the Flames to another win, 3 wins isn't enough of a sample size to warrant trading away one of your NHL goalies. That decision would be reserved for a timeline much closer to the trade deadline. However, the topic would definitely be under a microscope in the office.

I like this line of thinking, however Mrazek has been one of the hottest GT's in the AHL and has been developing steadily for the last few years.
  7. I don't know....I'm torn. We can afford him, but I don't want this kind of work ethic to bleed into the ranks.
  8. That's the kind of winning I've been talking about. Lets win more like that.

No! Absolutely not! I don't think my poor heart could take come-from-behind wins like that. JH hat-tricks, sure. Spotting teams 3 goals before deciding to win? No thank you.

There has not been a Flames game where you don't watch the 3rd period. Must see TV. I would like to see them win by 3 or 4 goals for a change.

As long as it's a win, I don't see the issue. I'd rather a comeback thriller like this than a boring 4-1 win every time.

  9. You're doing it wrong Flames. I said I like winning. This isn't winning. Lets get it together!

This is what I miss about Kipper so much. He was able to do what most people in his position couldn't. Play 70+ games per year and not even bat an eye. I miss the quiet spoken Finn in our crease. He had a certain presence about him in his game that made him Kipper.

No complaints here whatsoever. In fact, I'm quite mystified that the Flames landed themselves into an above average duo that can get the job done. To be quite honest, many are pessimists when it comes to the Flames' success, but this club has had a few notables land in their laps. Iggy was one. Kipper was another. Both franchise players. So far it seems that Johnny Hockey is another gem, Gio of course, and Brodie. Now with a year or two of poor goaltending, the team has found a workable, capable tandem in Hiller and Ramo (Hillmo) it just goes to show, however, how much of a workhorse and a star Kipper was, that he could take on the workload of 2 guys and have better numbers/record year in, year out. The guy was a genius between the pipes. It'll be a while before the Flames see that kind of stardom again. I'm not so convinced we have that in our system as of yet.
  12. I'm enjoying seeing our top 4's TOI timeshare. It's something to be desired by the rest of the league. It also allows for minimal shifts from Engelland.
  13. I like winning. It's fun.

I would say I'm jealous, but I am a Pens fan too after all :P.

  14. Wish I could take credit for Brodano, but alas, it's been used around the interwebs and hockey circles for at least the last year. Weber is a good player, but yeah, I hate the assumption that he has a spot nailed down. However, that's been the same sad story with the parade of pundits on team success too. They still call for Calgary to fall sooner or later and for the 'good' teams, the 'powerhouses' so to speak will take their place. They call it "falling back to earth". I have news for them....welcome to earth folks. Brodano is the real deal this year, and yes, we have the best 2 defenders in the league right now. It's giving me an inflated head, but I'll take it nonetheless. Ladies and gentlemen, your 2014-2015 Calgary Flames. They are for real. Get used to it.
  15. We can't be too greedy here. The Flames have a pretty stellar defense as it is, and we couldn't ask for more skill. I would like to see a tighter game from Engelland. Smid may not be a top 4 guy, but he's been solid for the Flames since his acquisition, and plays his role well. He's had to cover a few times for Engelland's mistakes. I would like to see maybe Sieloff or Wotherspoon come in and fill the role for Engelland for a 10 game span or so. Test the waters. Totals man. This has been a stellar year for the top pairing Flames duo. Bro-dano. I'm hoping the Flames can run away with a few trophies this season: Gio - Hart/Norris Brodie - Norris Gaudreau - Calder/Byng Hartley - Jack Adams

Well, Ramo kept it up. 2 doors slammed shut in a row for the Finn. Keep on rolling Ramo, we need you to keep this team's playoff hopes alive! Flower, nothing wrong with being excited. It's been awesome to witness this underdog of a team play so well and intimidate the big dogs. I'm only hoping the goaltending performance continues from the tandem well into the new year. The Christmas break can be a killer for momentum.
  17. "Just wait until the first month is over" they said. "Wait till they are riddled with injuries" they said. "Wait until they start facing California teams" they said.....I can't wait to hear what excuse "they" come up with next.

  18. It's too bad Gio's point streak ended. But it was another stellar end to a game. Hard fought third, a little flat in the first and 2nd. Something to note is Wideman's ability to step up when Gio/Brodie don't seem to be lighting the lamp or assisting in doing so. It's nice to have the options the Flames do in the top 4.

Hartley said in the off-day interview that Hiller was going to get the start again next game. Interesting. I thought Ramo would be getting the start, especially after Hiller didn't seem to show up to play in Carolina.

I wouldn't say Hiller won the job. He blew it out of the water. He's been a force in net this season. Although highly unlikely, as it favors playoff / cup champ goalies (fingers crossed Flames), it would be nice to see him take home a Vezina.

Carty, are you gonna to post pics of BBQ zebras, if the refs get out of hand? Won't be the same without the photoshop stuff in the GDG.

  22. I would have to agree. In fact from what I've seen, Smid has had to cover a few times for Engelland's mistakes. I'm also not smitten with Engelland's fighting ability as it seems to have been non-existent.
  23. I don't see any chance of any team trading up this draft. It's too deep. going by the experts who've been touting it for the last 2 years. If the Flames manage to snag Hanifin by pure compete, I won't be too sad. Wideman as it sits wouldn't be worth anything at the draft table. He's a serviceable D-man, but any trade involving him would require Calgary getting beans back with his massive contract, or it would require taking on some of his payroll.
