More than Ward at play in the current situation. Thought last nights coach's post gammer presser was very telling that all is not right but he is also correct that the players do not appear to give a shut.

the fact that he skated at practice with Dube Lucic is enough for me. I am not one for picking on the coach but this is looking really poor.

The one thing with this list of players that once wore the Flaming C is not one of them is abosolutley screaming to me that we made a wrong move at the time. You can argue the mertis of the Hamilton trade both ways but apart form him no one is aboslutley lighting it up Martin St Louis style.

That really suprises me as the eye test would suggest otherwise and our PK is mid pack.

Think they were trying to protect 3 goailes and Byron got picked up. Out of those forwards still around I would only consider Hathaway and maybe Byron. But everyone else you can leave them where they are.

Cheers Cross I have ready both of Theo's book and yes Playing With Fire was hard to put down. Clint Malarchuks The Crazy Game is well worth a read. First Hockey Book I ever read was 'Lanny' before we won the cup so I daresay later addtions had an extra chapter or two! I was even lucky enough to bump into the Flames at the airport during the cup run and got Lanny to sign it for me.

I was lucky enogh to get 5 hockey books for christmas this year and I am on the look out for some recommendations. I have just read Battle of Alberta - Mark Spector - thoroughly enjoyed as it covers 3 of the years I was in Alberta Burke's Law - not a bad read actually Hockeys Hot Stove - Al Strachan - was a bit meh and the least enjoyable in this list The Down Goes Brown History of the NHL - Dean McIndoe - really good read Currently reading - One Game at a time - Harnarayan Singh - also enjoying. Anyone got any books I should add to my list?

JJ (Mr Negative 😛 ) still beating the Fox trade to death. We never had Fox. Yes we drafted him (3rd round btw - so lots of other teams never saw this potential 1D - hindsight is such a wonderful thing) but he was not going to sign here. Move on, BT was never going to get a D1 return for Fox before he could have walked away from us anyway. If Hamilton was so good why were so many people down on him when he was on our team. As I recall he was a defensive liability, took silly penalties, played soft but was offensively good. I'll take Lindholm's versatility and points over Hamilton everyday of the week.

hindsight is a wonderful thing. On last nights showing you can keep Demko. As for Askarov on the limited showing I saw at the WJ you can keep him aswell. Markstrom has started out well. May he continue.

As I understand it if you on a one way contract then you get your full salary, 2 way contract you get the AHL salary, whilst on the tax squad. Not saying it is fair just how BT could use the rules. Kylinigton was probably going to the AHL this year to start anyways but hear you loud and clear about Stone!! Your favorite player!!!

Think a lot of you are missing the point of the Ryan waiver. BT is making use of the taxi squad to accrue cap space over the season. Placing Ryan on taxi squad makes perfect sense. ".....you can only bury a maximum of $1.075 million of his contract, the Flames’ cap benefit for sending him to the taxi squad between games would be $1.075 million divided again by 116. That amounts to $9,267 a day" from Hailey Salvian's excellent piece in The Atheletic - on how the Flames could save 72k of cap spce in 5 days. Moving Dube & Valimaki, as waiver expempt, back and forth to the taxi squad would also accrue the Flames cap space but unlike Ryan they are on a 2 way contract they would therefore be paid AHL money when on the Taxi squad and they may not like that!!!

Lots of potential to manipulate the cap with the taxi squad rules. The Athletic carried an article on it last week. I have not seen a lot about the AHL but surely it would make sense for the Canadian teams to have their own AHL divisison aswell and keep their guys in Canada? Main team and reserves playing each other on the same schedule?

I could find no mention anywhere about why it was down. I also tried to email (moderators@calgaryflames.com) and it bounced back.

They still have to sign Kylington if they are going that route. According to Cruickshank in an Athletic article we are at 18 signed with 3.3M left in cap space to sign 4/5 more so I can see them going with Yelesin/Petrovic if they want a RD but could also seem them give Mackay a go. Unless we make moves to free up cap space they are going to have to go with 22 players and the last 4 that make it need to be close to league minium.
