  1. Yes. It should be close. Gavin Brindley is likely the most similar to Moore if that is what we want. Moore should be very close to 16th, Brindley around just after our pick as far as rankings go. It will all depend on what other teams value. There will be a lot of strong options around 16 regardless. For fwds, those 2 + Wood, Ritchie, Danielson, But, Heidt, Dvorsky, Yager, Sale, Leonard should be in the 10-25 range. Add in 3-4 dmen. It must be superfun team scout-fighting to iron out a straight list out of all of that. I'd be really happy with Wood at 16. But there's a lot there for players. I'm kinda hoping Canada's u18 captain D Cam Allen will be there in rd 2. I really like his D, skating and puck-moving. I've seen a lot of him. But I'm prolly reaching at 48oa. I have to cheer against the Isles because Detroit has their 1st via Van. I hate the Flames and drafts. Last year was a waste due to no picks. Then I look at Detroit. 9th before lottery, 18th (NYI) likely, 41, 42, 43 in rd 2. That's superfun for fans and depth for the org. I soooo wish Flames ownership could see the immense value in that rather than seat-of-your pants plug and play trades and NEEDING UFA-hunting due to little depth. Vicious cycle. *end rant
  2. Bert's likely 6-7 term in the $6.25 per range is my thought. Around Nichushkin.
  3. I think at the higher levels they were good signings/at the time for that player. The bottom roster spots were real mediocrity. I mean the Leivo's and Raymond's and that end of UFA's. I'm a big fan of a solid bottom 6 so I tend to look at more bottom 6-9 fwds.
  4. Just talk to us before you sign anywhere else - Sutter probably
  5. Happy Friday = Yay I get to watch the u18s all day. Hopefully Bjarnason can get back in net and shake those massive jitters. Poor kid. Cheering for him when he does get another shot.
  6. Can I interest you in another red-jersied team?lol Building on giant Dmen? Lots in the prospect pool? Not afraid to make trades? Crafty in UFA? Snarly Captain? Value draft picks? Just as good but getting better? Fun and fast? Watching Bertuzzi in Boston, it's too bad Detroit can't afford to sign him due to upcoming future contracts on great young players. It's fun cheering for a team that will even trade a good fan-fave player because they can see the forest through the trees. I grew up with Detroit but near 2 decades in Calgary(was always anti-Oilers anyways) caused me to love them too. I cheered Calgary over the D in the playoffs in the past, I loved Kipper and Yelle. Something about a chain-smoking goalie with vodka(?) in his water bottle and always seems angry is a guy I can get behind.lol Reminded me of me if I was a lot faster.lol Having 2 teams are fun to compare also. Detroit keeps grabbing UFAs the way Calgary should. 1 to 3 years and you should still have trade value at tdl if we choose. Maata, Perron, Copp, Kubalik, Sundqvist, Suter. All solid affordable players that would fit here then flip for picks for ROI. NOT the biggest fish in UFA. Though Chiarot is arguable and too much term.
  7. Pretty much covers what many think.... https://www.tsn.ca/salim-valji-calgary-flames-ownership-must-commit-to-overhauling-culture-of-mediocrity-1.1948177
  8. I hope that you're not relying on it.lol Just for fun, let's say BT left because he was told to extend Lucic and Lewis:)
  9. 2-0 Sweden early. Canada and goaltending...off to work! edit Oof! 5 goals on 7 shots, poor kid.
  10. The US is LOADED. They're bringing Eiserman and Hutson from their U17 team to join the U18 team. Poor U17 team has to go the USHL playoffs alone.
  11. Canada vs Sweden in 5 minutes. Coverage and replays on TSN. https://www.iihf.com/en/events/2023/wm18
  12. But you do worry way too much about us trading anyone. You also worry that Vladar will turn into Vasilevsky. You can't make any trades with a "what if" mindset regarding your own players. It's unfortunate that BT knew he was leaving at TDL so was paralyzed to do what would have been great imho. Backlund, Toffoli, anyone, really, should have been shipped out. We'll do the same next year. The "might make the playoffs" blink where any realist can see that it isn't happening. Easy schedule to finish the year? We were on other teams' easy schedule. This is exactly how you draft 13-16 every year and stay married to cap issues. And the same old lockerroom of zero intensity. At least sweep out all of Sutter's crutches of Christmas-pasts and don't let him leverage that well any longer. IF there is lockerroom division it isn't difficult to envision what the dividing lines could be. Sutter's golden children vs Sutter's patsies. The golden children are NEVER the problem regardless of what happened in reality.
  13. Mainly, it will point to an absolute zero change in management. Undoubtedly Conroy has been around everything the Flames do and how they conduct their business. So while we're on this endless merry-go-round of blaming coaches and players, the plan of attack never waivers. So just like this season where I thought the only chance after the Detroit loss was to inject plenty of youth because the team has zero heart, nothing ever changes. So now Bean is still talking about a paper team, and he is inexplicably talking about a "hot finish"....I have no idea what they are watching. The Flames ownership is Wayfair pretending that they're IBM. I feel like Bean is Feaster...it's like CNRL hiring sub-contractors that tell them what they don't want to hear so they find one's that do tell them what they want to hear. What is the point? "Earned, Never Given" was a fun motto. Very unfitting in regards to ownership's treatment of respect.
  14. Fleury looks like his playoff struggles last his whole career. Big win for the Cats, business as usual for the Canes. Go Kings!!
  15. Do we really expect Toffoli to repeat? I think we should sell high. He was well above career norm.
  16. That was major scary. An inch away from goodbye eye.
  17. The Sting can really get on it tonight in Saginaw. They've taken the 1st 2 very close games at home. All of the pressure is on Saginaw tonight to keep the Sting at bay. So that's fun and a nice distraction for me. The 2nd rd haunts Sarnia. But this team is potentially the pride of the OHL if the goaltending holds up. Onwards and upwards. Go Sting, go Wranglers. It's the only solace I have. 3 TV's in my barroom, I'd love to screw my friends and put the Sting on all 3.lol I can take them, just not the whining. Go TBay's bottom 6 and goalie. My dream is every Leafs fan screaming, "trade Marner and Matthews" when it's actually the bottom 6. Like the playoffs always are.
  18. Can I interest you in the Detroit Red Wings?lol We thrive on the world's cheapest pizza! I'm not sure how this doesn't turn into a trainwreck. Backlund and Lindholm aren't saying outright that they want out. But you'd have to be blind to think that they aren't alluding to it. Everything was so awful last offseason but it turned into positives although the season was annoying. But what now? Seems like even more guys don't wanna be here and the long contracts know they have to fake it. I was a huge Sutter fan. But there does set in the reality that 90% of the team looks miserable playing for him. There is zero fun. I don't care what you do for a living. If you can't have any fun with it, it's just a job that you don't give a Satoshi Nakamoto about. Contract says you have to pay me, it doesn't say that I have to be a mindless drone for this guy. He's done as a coach. He got fed by the kid on the BIG BOY sign last year. What more do you need?
  19. I loathe that it will be Conroy. I can't help but wonder what other GMs around the league are thinking about the Flames now. BT carried a ton of respect out the door because he didn't want to be here anymore. I have little doubt that all of the heavyweights of the league have called him to, "wish him well". The GM club isn't a big one, and they can be pretty unforgiving. Just sayin'. We need to perfect this exit. Maloney with the great start being emotional. But we need a guy not just good for us, but keeping the respect level BT attained. That will be the hard part.
  20. Can't help but wonder how our draft will work with BT leaving. Is Maloney running the show or does this get addressed quickly? I hope Conroy isn't our point man.
  21. I thought that too. Add in, "not allowed to say rebuild". That just screams closed-mindedness. Maloney states he'd like to go younger and more progressive...Bean is basically saying that there are already things not open to debate. I'm quite certain that is the antithesis of young and progressive. "We'll do it your way so long as your way is our way".lol I feel I should actually be congratulating BT for escaping the CNRL landscape of doing the bare minimum. Nixed trades, little support, always being treated like your boss will always go out of his way to put you under his thumb. BT reached the point where he prolly felt he can't do anything right anyways, so why bother? GM/Coach role reversal was likely the last slap in the face from CNRL. The worst polluter in the province can't run a hockey team without it mirroring their main business isn't all that shocking.
  22. Nice to see LA sneak one without Fiala, hopefully he's not out long. I always cheer Korpisalo for quietly being good throughout some lousy situations. He's UFA so can gain a lot of traction for a fair contract either with LA or a solid rising team. It was definitely playoff hockey on night 1.
  23. Beck is having a good playoffs with 7 games played, 5g/6a/11pts. 9 of his pts, 5g/4a, are 5v5. Ottawa (1) is currently tied at a game apiece in their Eastern Conference Semi-final vs Peterborough (4). The clock is ticking for the Flames to ink Beck and there's no reason not to.
