    Oilers:

One line with no depth and a mediocre goalie basically dooms you from cup contention. Draisaitel will be the first to leave.

That $9.25 for Nurse is rearing its ugly head. $5.125 for Kane. Campbell's retirement contract of $5 buried for 3 more years.

Every team has bad contracts. It's the compounding ones that kill you. Ask Detroit. Bring in a Cap and suddenly Holland doesn't look like a great GM.

"I'll deal with the cap implications later"...welcome to Edmonton and Toronto. Little depth because they, "dealt with cap implications later", shall we call it?

This headline will forever live in infamy for Wings fans. The day balance and reasoning left Ken Holland:

With the Leafs firing Keefe and opening up that job, which despite all the Leafs hate is one of the more attractive jobs in the NHL, this could wind up being a crazy summer on the hiring front.  For the record I don't think Keefe is that good a coach so I think the Leafs made the right call.

There are currently 5 open positions and 1 Interim coach in LA who has not been confirmed.

To keep the gossip levels high, Rob Brind'Amour's contract is up at the end of this year. While the speculation is he'll stay does a sweep change that?

Jon Cooper only has 1 more year left on his deal.

There are rumblings that Dubas wants Sullivan out in Pittsburgh, but doesn't want to fire him. Could we see a swap of coaches there? Keefe to Pitts and Sullivan to TO?

    Could be interesting

Cooper's eyeing up a TBay Red Wings spot, he'll follow Stamkos. lol j/k

It'll be very interesting. I'm still waiting for a certain past-OHL mgr to turn into this wunderkind, new-age GM.

    Toronto and their bloated stories.

I'm happy to see Travis Green get another shot.

Oh boy, Dubas "can't fire Sullivan". Can't see that working out for him. Dubas needs to go head-on into a re-build.

Great success, but now they are miled right out. They're replacing SJ in the standings soon. It was a great run.

The Jets have now had 2 really good coaches. Not sure who they wanna run down next. Chevy should GM/Coach. lol The coaches, while not outright saying it, allude to their frustration with players. Chevy should give it a shot, he signed them.

Ruff will be fun in Buffalo.

Fun fact I saw. Huska's now something like the 19th longest-tenured coach in the league. Now that's a healthy dose of perspective.

So the Bruins thought Bennett's hit was cheap? Playoff hockey, Marchand looks like he's gonna make a hit on Benny and then Benny insulates the hit but also kind of follows through with a push... I don't see it as egregious though. Anyone else?

    lol

What they're saying is sucker punch. Bennett's right hand sneaks in for a solid right to the chin. If you watch it in snail time, they have a point. But it's also stretching 1.5 seconds out to 1.5 minutes. lol

However you want to read it, that made Bennett look really crafty to me. Bennett isn't crafty, so I believe that was happenstance.  I used to really like FLA and they gave Lomberg a home. Then Bennett I didn't mind.

But now with both Tkachuk AND Bennett, they have 2 of the greasiest weasels in the league. I'd love to see both of them get annihilated.

Though I still love Barkov and Lomberg.

I have zero faith in either tender in this series.

Which series? Van series I'm guessing? Oops, sorry, just noticed it wasn't posted after tonight's game. Dallas is looking solid. Both should be long series.

Would CBJ be interested in trading down to #9 so they can draft Jiricek and unite the brothers?  And should the Flames trade up to 4?

If I'm CBJ I'm totally thinking fwd. They have some great D prospects. Fantilli, Sillinger, and now freshly-inked Brindley (reunited with Fantilli) should be a pretty solid young base at fwd to add to. Brindley looked great (again) for Michigan.

    Demidov, Lindstrom, Catton or Eiserman.

Ha,ha, thanks! A draft, that has Brandsegg Nygard going 2nd overall isn't realistic:) They also have a lot of guys that are not ranked, so the random factor is even bigger.

And I really forgot to draft another D in the 3rd or 4th round, though I really liked the forwards still available.

I'm really intrigued by the goalie Nabokov, whom I picked in the 4th round. At 21 years, he isn't a guy you normally draft if your looking for longterm potential. He also doesn't have the preferred size (6'1 179lbs) for a goalie. Yet he managed to copy his strong numbers in russian juniors in his first season in the KHL. And even better numbers in the playoffs.

His contract runs out after next season, so he could be kind of an insurance plan, if Wolf struggles, or he could become his tandem partner down the road.

Great forward potential, though. O'Reilly and Miettenin at those spots would totally be fun. lol

I gave that mock draft builder a try, it's fun and really random:)

In my draft, Chicago took Brandsegg Nygard 2nd, Seattle Connelly 8th and Iginla went 23rd to Toronto.

    Here are my picks:

    9. D Zeev Buium

    29. C Michael Hage

    41. C Jett Luchanko

    64. RW Sam O'Reilly

    74. C Julius Miettinen

    84. LW Clarke Caswell

    106. G Ilya Nabokov

    107. C Heikki Ruohonen

    170. RW Jacob Battaglia

    Nice. Lock it in!!

  8. Gather 200 18yo boys in a room.

As an adult, you're generally looking at a pack of idiots. lol

I'm kidding, they're all good kids, but they haven't reached maturity. Video games and music you don't understand.

So probably about 10% of them are going to really surprise the adults with how they grow and mature in a few short years.

Then the adults will all point at each other and wonder how they didn't see that kid doing that.

There is no such thing as a crystal ball. The adults can only guess, honestly.

Teams/scouts don't "miss", they just have no way of knowing and can only surmise.

But it should be full birth years. The Sept 15th cutoff is absolute nonsense. Kids born after that are literally in their D +1 year when they're eligible. With the countless stupid Satoshi Nakamoto the NHL does, this is a huge one for me. That isolation doesn't happen ANYWHERE else in the world for kids. ONLY the NHL does that. They want 18yos in camps so badly that they're willing to Blockchain over a full  >25% of them.

Yeah canot understand whats wrong with the Canes.

I think his name is Igor Shesterkin. He's sick and tired of hearing that Vasilevsky is the best goalie in the world.

He's taking matters into his own hands. lol

  10. Swinging big time after crushing Dmen. Not really shocking me much that I think bpa are dmen prospects.

Swap Catton for Levshunov, because there is no way. I'm happy with the 4 Dmen in the middle. I can get Repcik, Allard and Fisher that late? Sure, I'll take it.

    9.   Artyom Levshunov D

    29. Luke Misa C

    41. Cole Hutson D

    64. Luca Marrelli D

    74. Tomas Lavoie D

    84. Harrison Brunicke D

    106. Peter Repcik C

    107. Owen Allard C

    170. Jake Fisher C

  11. The Dean Letourneau love is hilarious. Thank god Wiesbrod isn't here to override our actual scouts.

Is there nobody on the Calgary Buffaloes that is 6'7"?

"5 years folks, people will be like, wow, they won that draft". lol

  12. If I recall correctly, I believe that this isn't his first back problem. I think a lot of big players have shoulder issues, Edvinsson had preventative surgery and I believe that's fairly common. I believe Musty had the same growing pains. Perhaps I'm incorrect that this isn't his first, but back issues are pretty darn heady.

We'll see if it holds teams back and where he lands. I'd much prefer a player without back-pain history. I'm not positive if that's him or not.

Honestly haven't seen him much due to injury.

I'm with @cross16 that I can't watch highlight packages to assess.

If Dickinson could do something to annoy everyone into dropping to 9th, I'd be appreciative.

I'll be watching Game 1 of Oshawa @ London finals tonight alongside CAR @ NYR.

Dickinson and O'Reilly vs Sennecke. Some real talent going on there! I want the 1st 2 but resign myself to it being neither. Dickinson is so refined at playing D, there just aren't enough adjectives. O'Reilly is going to have a growth explosion imho. He's only 3 yrs removed from being a Dman.

I'm not shy about drafting US players, but Eiserman's giving me those vibes. Anyone who talks about themselves in the 3rd person is sketch af arrogant.

    That's what conundrumed thinks. lol

Reminds me a lot of Micheal Rasmussen.

    HEY!! lol

Good point and I'm pretty on the fence myself. Ras is now most effective as a LWer. 3rd line but could potentially get to 2nd. Veleno bothers me more. I like him, but he's trapped at 4C. I'd like him in Calgary to C Zary and Pospisil. I think that would be a great, "hard game" line. I love the Wings, but my biggest annoyance is Copp ahead of Veleno. Copp's a floater.

I feel like Lindstrom is fairly risky.

That is very true, there are no guarantees and many don’t work out.  However, what kind of a cruel joke is it if we have 3 years of such “winning” and end up with the same mushy middle, non-Cup competitive team we’ve had for the past 35 years (2004 lightning in a bottle excepted)?  Don’t know about you but I don’t have that long to wait for success.  Going for broke, only 1 team wins every year, disappointed is hockey’s middle name.

But we're likely to be having decent drafts through '26 and some things may fall into your lap on the way. This is only 1 draft. We won't be fixing everything this year alone. Next year's draft will pull in more good prospects.

Well, I'll tell ya. These kids don't want to fail and they are all great players. 96 is probably as good as 3 on any given night. It's kind of one of those things. You have to figure out the person that you're drafting as much as the player.

As an aside, I doubt many teams are doing that well enough. That takes financing also/too, whichever word suits better.

Honestly, all I know, and my opinion, is the draft needs to be pushed back a year. Everyone born in 2005 should be up now. 2006, next year. I really hoped that Auston Matthews' predicament mattered.

But the NHL is really just a bunch of old, useless Blockchains that just want to cash in. In my opinion, of course.

Some heritage type options would be great, a unique treat.  Also, loved that Field cafe, had some great food there.  Not sure why it’s about impossible to get decent food on the Saddledome concourse?  Maybe some “attached” food courts?  Why not have a ring of viewing areas, restaurants, food courts, tech areas, WCs and etc?   Don’t need to fit everything into a rectangular box.

I knew the one girl at Field, and I don't mean just kind of. Not romantically, but I went in one day and it was, "OMFG, haven't seen you in forever". She said, "you have to try this couscous". I'm not a couscous person, it's okay, though, I don't hate it. She sat with us and I couldn't stop asking for the recipe. She couldn't. I laughed that I'll figure it out. I'm wrong. I can't figure out what's going on there. I know there's maple syrup and cilantro. I can't make them converge. Apple cider vinegar, pickling juice. I've tried everything. A bit of mustard.

    She's a BTC. lol

She isn't though. People would say that she's a, "granola". If I were single, I'm fine with that. She's on the positive side of the attraction and character side.

She never came clean on the couscous thing, though. So she's kind of a BTC. j/k

    excellent food

Reminds me of an old Dylan song. 'someone said you're in the wrong place, my friend, you'd better leave'.

Now who wants a pawket dog? lol

I remember Field, B.C. on my massive 4 wk plus camping trips in the summer. Basically a general store. The food at their deli, jfc. I always thought, "I have to bring this to the highways". lol I'd have destroyed Subway and A&W.

This was back in, say, '95-2008ish. Highway stops were virtually, "there is nothing here that I want to eat". That little Field store, though, just crushed it. I never knew I liked couscous so much. They just crushed it. Their Indian (east-indian) wraps they had for a short bit, jfc man, this is eating.

How we got to the point that we want to eat lead mystifies me. Have an apple for god sakes. The Satoshi Nakamoto they want us to pound down is filler. And bland af.

But yeah. This is staying on the stampede grounds, which is kind of a Satoshi Nakamoto area.

But hey, a 2 week circus keeps Calgary famous. Nothing else matters.

I'll spare (a bit) bringing up bison, because the cattle industry controls everything. Keyword being controls.

Lost their Satoshi Nakamoto on Harper for feeding Bush (I might be a bit off on leaders) bison.

Source: my buddies a bison farmer. He's also on the CDN Bison Association's board of directors.

This has zero to do with an arena, but if it's going to be some heritage thing, make it a heritage thing. Not because someone has a crucifying lobbying group.

Put deer on the menu. lol Figure it out. Make it what Alberta is supposed to be.

Or, you know, be the envy of nobody. Just another sellout.

Back in the day I was a big fan of unique stadiums and i would have advocated for unique designs. Stuff like the LA Forum, MSG, Saddledome, Maple Leaf Gardens etc were all really, really cool. Now it's expensive enough as it is to build these dman things, just keep the exterior bland and put the money on the inside.

but I do miss the iconic designs we use to get

The final LCA design had a Wings logo on the roof.

Upon completion, the cheap pizza logo.

It was a very collective sigh of, "yup, there it is". It's really a nice arena, but damn, are there still people that have never heard of Little Caesar's Pizza? They have like 10 booths in the place. And get this - always lined right up. lol

The Walmart of pizza...if you ever hear a Detroiter say "Detroit Pizza", never say, "oh, you mean like Little Caesar's"? Those are fighting words.

Honestly, off topic, but I have no idea what these people are doing. New York, Chicago, Detroit Pizza...they are Neapolitan pizzas. Wtf are you people even talking about? You're not original. I can do what you do in my kitchen. It's not original. Frigging Americans. Go to Naples and tell them about your city-specific pizzas.

    Italians. Amiright?
