  1. And add to that hanifin's camp isn't helping by leaking were he likely only wants to sign .. lowers the return from teams when they know they're only getting a rental
  2. Actually the ideal scenario is Dallas beats Vancouver in the WCF..then both the trade conditios get met .. I got no problem cheering for Dallas over Vancouver 😎 Runner up is they both lose in the first round ..then the 1st and second get better
  3. Personally I think the first narrative came Into play because of Toronto, being that's all they had to offer ..Conny did mention a second was the starting point the whole time ..so it really does come down to the prospect.. I'd be curious what Tanevs "card" looks like from when he was a rookie ..anybody who has actually scouted him seems to love him.. ..not for one second saying he's gonna be a #1 d.. but neither was Tanev.. a top shutdown guy with speed to defend one on one has a future if he keeps developing
  4. I'm getting huge chuckles on Twitter right now ...lost the trade ..the kids a scrub.. Toronto fans saying dodged a bullet and will just sign him for free in the summer to a 2x$3m..(obviously don't know BT..he'll sign him to a 5x$6m lol) The funny thing is ..we traded a low offensive dman who is a top shut down guy.. for essentially a young Tanev and a lottery ticket and people can't see the positive here.. And actually I think it's more than a couple weeks ..he was drafted near our second rounder that year so their book must go back further than that ..
  5. Agreed .. everything I've been reading on the kid screams Young Chris Tanev.. Great one on one defender , not flashy but great defensively, great skater..blocks shots , can be physical .. does all the simple things at a high level.. essentially a top shut down defender ..we have a good stable of offensive D coming up.. a solid shutdown guy is a good add Picked in the same area as our second rounder so our scouts likely have a decent book on him .. and Stars have a history of drafting well and they saw enough in him to take him in the second .. all in all a very solid add
  6. It's nice to see Treliving still hasn'tost his touch 😎
  7. Tanking is deliberately setting your team up to fail.. yes it hurts us in the standings ..but it was not the intent to hurt the team .. that's not tanking ..
  8. We traded a pending UFA instead of losing him for nothing..that's called asset management... Trading Anderson for picks .. that would be tanking
  9. Here's a great way to break it down and see how the pieces technically moved
  10. I'm not saying you're wrong for wanting that, that is what these boards are for .. I'm just saying what appears the team has chosen as a path .. regardless of what we all think if Lindholm had signed his offer .. he'd be here for 8 more years .. if Hanifin had signed his , he wouldn't be on the block .. the teams intent and preference was to lock them both up.. these moves are essentially forced, not team decision .. that says to me No tear down .. no losing or being bad on purpose.. thats all I'm saying
  11. yes this is correct, he asked for a trade He did ask for a trade
  12. There's the rub.. people can love it ..hate it..debate it ..etc.. but the goal is playoffs every year ..they may understand there may be pains getting there .. but the goal from the organization is playoffs ..that much has not changed on the process .. the statements from Conroy and the actions to date make that pretty obvious ... Not signing or asking to leave are the only reasons they are making or have made the moves they are
  13. Exactly..a team is buying 2 years of prime Markstrom ..they rightfully will make a team pay for it..or they'll keep it for themselves . They obviously have no desire to move him.. but are willing to move anybody if the price is met ..and they're obviously setting it high .. Conny has made it pretty clear ..there will be "throwing in the towel" ... You want out ..fine... Don't want to sign ...you're gone .. No matter what people are wanting.. there will be no tank.. that's been made pretty clear
  14. For sure.. everybody has a price tag.. just that for him and some others I'm sure .. teams have to ante up something undeniable to convince them to sell..an overpay . If they don't meet the price , oh well..they're not shopping him Unlike Tanev and Hanifin.. sure theyre creating a bidding war but if March 8 Rolls around the buyers hold the cards . If suddenly only a 3rd rounder is on the table for Tanev Conny has to take it ..
  15. Not saying anybody has to agree with the approach or the thought process...just pointing out its becoming clear that is what the team is thinking .. were not going to give away a top 5 goalie in the league with team control .. as long as he's giving us wins we don't necessarily deserve it's good for the kids Ps.. Nashville wants to resign Saros for 8 years reportedly
  16. I get the solid impression they have no interest in moving him... They'll listen..set their price ..but don't really care If it's not met .. Came out recently the Preds offered Saros... For Mercer, Holtz, a first , second and no retention.. of course NJ said no. But they're in the same boat..they want to keep Saros , but here's the price of you really want him.. It was in more then one report that Buffalo was shopping Middlestedt.. and wanted a goalie ..but no report that Calgary ever approached them .. The only teams who can give us a high enough pick to be attractive are teams Marky likely won't go. Why would he? He likes it here.. why go to a tire fire I believe he starts the season here next year ..unless somehow a team ponies up a kings ransom.
  17. In other words, imo, he's about as untouchable on this team as u can get
  18. Not sure if the rules per se..but it's done a million times for sure.. Mark Recchi made a late career out of it ... You can technically say anything you want to the player while you still own him ..even if it's " I'm putting this offer right here.. if you EVER want to revisit it *wink* it will be here ..." There's also the legal tampering period .. where they can solidify it ... It was that period that made up Chuckys mind in the end to leave
  19. Quantify? For the leadership he brings ..the value be brings to the development of the kids . His skillset as well( the WC I think probabaly surprised aot of people) and the Fact he's embraced Calgary and has bled red and gold since he got here? Players like that are the reason teams win.. and it takes it above his skill level (which is impressive in its own right ) Give me Tkachuk. Steutzle..and the first ..I'll listen )
  20. Im not sure you can put a price on true leadership.. and add in the skill he is being free to show.. I agreed with Backs being captain but Weegs was my top choice .. this would truly need to be an embarrassing overpay for me to listen
  21. That's where Toronto is stuck..they have no second ... Nyi 3rd rounder .. their own 4th and multiple 5ths (including ours ).. word is Brad has been offering a package of multiple late rounders in the 4/,5 range Pretty sure that's one player Craig is hanging the phone up on
  22. I would take the dallas one for example ..but my gut says if the first appears it will also come with a body or 2. the first is on the radar because of Toronto..they only have a first and they want Tanev bad.... if they crack and offer it , one or more other teams will up the ante and the seal will be broken I also like Dallas's chances of making the WCF
  23. Not sure if you saw it but isl saw this exact offer as one being on the table .. just didn't know the source so didn't give it much time Dallas gets tanev We get a conditional first and dellandrea and an additional pick or prospect for eating salary
