I would go Hanifin for him

I don't know if we'd have to add.

    maybe do

    Lafrenier + a pick

    for

    Lindholm

    ?

Id do Hanifin for Lafreniere for sure.

The Lindholm trade seems like solid value as well depending on the pick coming back.

  2. Wonder if Mitch Love had anything to do with the Phillips to Washington thing.

Would have liked to see him get a greater opportunity this season bit im not that broken up about him moving on.

I haven't forgotten Chris Dingman lol.

To be honest though, there just wasn't anyone to draft in that draft.

    https://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/draft/nhl1994e.html

After a few of these and then the Sutter years, we were right to go easy on the size.

You don't ever want just size.  that's a complete waste.   It looks like we got a good balance this time.

In the first round, ideally you get it all. Size. Skill.   I think we did?

In later rounds, if you have to choose between the two I think you go with skill.   so maybe only one or two picks that raised my eyebrows but they were later on.

Agreed. Putting too much emphasis on size is how you end up with a 6'7" plug like Hunter Smith in the second round.

I had a fun draft party last night. Especially with a couple of Leafs fans due to we're all terribly familiar with the Knights. That one was insane. Feel bad for BT and we were laughing that he passed the announcemement to their scouting chief, whom we'd all fire.

We did okay, but just okay imo.

    Honzek - yup

    Morin - nope. I don't subscribe to "O dmen can learn D." How's Poirier's D? I don't like our philosophy regarding D.

Suniev - yup, but I'd have taken Perron, small but huge skills.

Lipinski - very lukewarm with Allen, Minnetian and Wikman on the board and needing D.

Yegorov - take a swing at a goalie, but maybe take Uronen before that.

Hurtig - yup. Good pick at 7. Only Aiden Fink went lower.

    In my redo:

    Honzek or Musty,lol

Sawchyn because D depth still looking decent.

    McCarthy

    Minnetian

Yegorov because always get a goalie late

Hurtig is a good swing in the 7th.

Just personally, I would have adjusted from taking a dman in the 2nd, seeing the board. Personal opinion.

The plus side of a time difference is im usually not working when things I want to see in the hockey world are happening.

The negative side is they happen in the middle of the night/ungodly hours of the morning so I'm always tired for work the next day 😴 😪

Hey td, it certainly has been awhile:)  You might be right about the change of the website. I remebember it was around the draft in 2018 there I could no longer sign in, thanks to a problems with the password. Unfortunately at that time I had a similar problem with my mailacoount and couldn't set my password back. Then 2 or 3 years ago, I tried 2 times to create a new account but couldn't verify it, cause the security code didn't show up. The end of that is, that in both cases I got several mails from the forum, that somenone else used my half sign up to hack into the forum. At that point I gave up until now.

    Glad to have another poster!

I know how it feels being a lurker.

Been a part of the forums since 2009 technically but have only been posting regularly in the last few years.

    GFG!

    Nice bump.

Truth is...this was posted in 2020 and since then, BT has gradually blown up the entire core.

We are now debating selling the likes of Lindholm who were only semi-core 3 years ago but now they are all we've got.

Really at this point we are only debating the label.   BT has already blown up the team.

    BLOW IT UP FURTHER!

  7. This makes me wonder if there is a case to be had for Kipper as a HOFer.

Never won a cup but just like King Henrik (and maybe moreso) I think its indisputable he was one of (if not the) best goalies in the world for a short time.

Won a Vezina and again like Henrik has a SCF appearance to his name.

Have heard Pekka Rinne's name thrown around lately for a future HOF call and imo Kipper is more deserving.

  8. Assuming Backlund and Toffoli for sure want to be traded i think you could potentially hang onto them until the deadline to try and maximize a return from a contender looking for a missing piece.

Risky with Toffoli though as his value probably wont be higher than it is right now.

So IMHO the issues just run deeper. Older players want to win younger guys looking at the team, coach, and team going I like my chances elsewhere. As much as I would prefer we just wave the white towel and try to rebuild, have to agree with Peeps, it going to be a retool with Satoshi Nakamoto contracts with Bubble gum to plug the holes in the dam once again.

So what are these guys worth in a sign and trade or trade right now; Could we get 4 firsts for Lindholm, Backs, Hanifin and Toffoli?

I think you could for sure get a 1st for Lindy and Hanifin among other assets.

Toffoli may fetch one from the right team.

I think for Backlund you'd probably have to throw in a later pick to recoup a first in a deal with him.

  10. 6 minutes ago, JTech780 said:

I would say all 3 of those guys are huge losses. Lindholm is a big loss for sure, but Hanifin is a 6’3” smooth skating defenseman who can play 23 mins a night, not a ton of those guys out there. Backlund is one of the best possession centers in the league, the possession and defensive numbers are going to take a massive hit without him and I would assume that the wingers on his line will take a step backwards.

Now it all depends on the players that come back in the trades, and the type of returns that Conroy targets.

My fear is that this doesn’t change anything and ownership and upper management force Conroy to roll this roster out again, go for a playoff run and deal with the fall out afterwards.

Let’s be the proactive franchise for once and recoup some assets for guys who don’t want to be here long term, or shouldn’t be here long term.

I agree with this. Figure out where you stand and if there is any uncertainty whatsoever you deal them now for max return.

Both Lindholm and Hanifin could fetch a fair bit in a trade.

  11. Hearing lots of chatter that Huska is all but official at this point.

Wasn't my first or second choice, but its a lot better than some of the other names I had heard.

Seems like a safe pick but ill reserve judgement for now.

  12. The Severson deal makes me nervous about a Hanifin extension.

Severson played sheltered minutes mostly on the 3rd pair for a good Devils team.

By all accounts Hanifin is the superior player.

The only thing Severson has on him is the RHS

I know Hanifin isn't a Gaudreau level player, but he is an asset I'd put in that you can't let walk for nothing. I thought the same when it came to Brodie. He was someone we needed to get something for. The same was with Giordano.

    Especially as a deadline deal.

We got a great return at the time for Kris Russell.

May not look like much today but getting a 2nd, a prospect and an NHLer in return is great value for a guy thats not coming back anyway.

Do we/should we also be in the market for new goaltending coaches?  Our goaltending just goes backwards from one year to the next.  Every young kid gets ruined here.

Honestly I would be stoked if we got a new goalie coach.

Been a serious weak spot in this organization for some time IMO.

Labarbera and Sigalet are/were not the answer.

I'd want no part of Roy and quite frankly I don't get the argument that the Flames should be interested. Wasn't that great the first go around and quit on his team in the summer after they started to take away his say in hockey ops decisions (mostly because he wasn't great at it).

Yeah I agree. I think arrogance is something that should be avoided when looking at a head coach.

they tend to keep to an internal cap and rely on good drafting and trade off good players to maintain it. Possibly that they just don't want to go over a certain price tag

This makes sense. Necas is due a pretty good raise.

That said I'd still be really interested.
