I don't know seem like they will lose some key guys this year.  At what point does age catch up to some of the dmen and does age and back issues catch up to Stone.  But counting that team down and out is definitely a mistake, evidenced by last season and predicting they didn't have the goaltending to do anything significant.

They are almost certainly going to have to deal Whitecloud this offseason.

Add to that Pietro is 34.

I could very easily see Vegas being a non-playoff team in 2026.

don't believe the hype, they're just letting him score those goals because of his Dad.

Jokes aside. Iginla has looked pretty dynamic in the O-zone so far.

47 goals in his first full regular season too.

I'm starting to dig the idea of potentially drafting him.

8 is interesting because Tij comes into play.  He's arguably ranked 9-13 right now.  Taking him at 8 is reaching but forgivable possibly.

Hes definitely a scorer which is something we lack

For what was expected to be a "deep draft" in 2023, one where no one was trading first rounders, was the first rounder one we should have taken, without hindsight? Not knocking Honzek, just asking if maybe we might have needed a different approach to the depth.

and can last year or the few years before's approaches hint at what to expect this year? Is it good, bad, exciting, worrisome?

Many on this site seem to have their wishlist, and many are writing Santa.

I was worried Honzek was a reach, and maybe needs a bit of time to grow into himself. I hope he becomes an NHLer. I get wanted a player of his stature and possible power, which makes it all that harder to read an 18yr old.

I think Honzek will be fine.

At worst he will be a Backlund replacement imo

In some ways this is a typical Flames game.  Mistakes killing us.

We survive the 5-3 only to get scored on the 5-4.

    2nd goal a bad giveaway.

Wolf has been very good, but he isn't quiet enough.

Both goals he slid too far out.

The 5 hole was the result in sliding across.

I get that he's small but he stands his ground pretty darn NHL-ish.

Stay quiet, cover the angles, and don't lose the net.

I hope Wolfie gets the EDM game.

Markie hasn't been back to Roger's since the playoffs there.

That would just mess up the Oilers so much to lose to a rookie goalie.

Losing to this version of the Flames.

Only game I care about them winning.

I know this is a day late but his glove save on Kyle Connor was a tremendous display of patience and athleticism.

You can definitely the qualities thats made him a special goaltender so far.

I don't know the stories of the other players nominated, but at quick glance it was players that were injured, or had a long road to the NHL.  Hrumph.  There are guys deserving no doubt.  Maybe Kylington doesn't match all the qualities necessary, but he is certainly a shining example of what tolls the sport can take on a person and what it might take to make it back.  I personally think it's the kind of story that the NHL needs to show at this point.  Fighting, scandals, rapists (suspected), CTE, player gambling, player douchebaggness; nice to have positive stuff for a change.

    Nothing to add to this.

    I agree wholeheartedly.

    Shilly is well deserving.

I just don't think we will ever be drafting low enough for it to be a rebuild. This year may be the lowest we draft in this iteration of a retool.

we need to make sure we hit on players in the way Dallas did... and get that first rounder right.

Dallas is good example but also a rarity.

They got an elite player at D, F, and G all in the same draft.

    That almost never happens

I think we dodged a bullet there.

Like it or not, we are keeping him away from our players.

CAR has no issues with problem children.

I find some of the trades for expensive players underwhelming.

Zucker and Okposo for basically nothing.

    I agree with this.

Kuznetsov has skill no doubt but carries a lot of baggage.

We don't need that around our young bucks

San Jose is in such a bad spot. They've already been out of the playoffs for five years, this season.

There are no signs of things turning around. If they go 10+ years without the playoffs, it wouldn't be a shock.

They're the cautionary tale to a teardown

    True.

William Eklund is a nice player though.

    So, there's that.

I’m not sure NJD makes any moves, they are further out from a WC spot than Cgy…unless they win all in a row up to TDL I don’t think they make moves now, the injury bug kinda pooched their season and they have been slow to fix it…had they pulled

the trigger early on Markstrom and one of Hanifin or Tanev (aka paid Conroy’s price) they would be well in A playoff spot but now is questionable, so why make Moves for a playoff run when you make not even make it now?

The thing with Marky is he has term.

NJ is still a good team so they could feasibly make a run next season with him in nets.

Ok so another article has Pho and Cgy making an interesting deal…I’m not sure if it’s credible but this is what was suggested:

    to Pho

    Anderson

    Manji

    to Cgy

    Crouse

    Soderstrom

    2024 1st round pick

on the surface seems Like a pretty good deal for Cgy especially with the Pho 2024 1st…almost seems too good, not sure why Pho would make this move other than Manji and Anderson are known commodities…sure Crouse is but there would be a gamble of sorts with Soderstrom and the 2024 1st…out side of that I’m not sure how this would really benefit Pho…

personally I’d take the gable and do this deal if it’s on the table.

1st is nice but I'm very hesitant to move andersson

    nhl rookie scoring:

    c. bedard: 39 GP, 15-18-33P

    b. faber: 50 GP, 4-26-30P

    m. rossi: 50 GP, 13-15-28P

    a. fantilli: 49 GP, 12-15-27P

    c. zary: 41 GP, 12-14-26P

Calder is Bedards to lose at this point.

I believe Faber is a lock for runner-up as well.

When you look at games played though a case could certainly be made for Zary to be a finalist.

  13. Sounds like the tabled deal for Hanifin is 7.5x8.

Now if you had asked me at the start of the season about this deal I'd have given a hard "no" but I am starting to come around on resigning him. I think his game has grown exponentially this season and he is playing the most confident hockey he ever has.

All that said, this also makes him a really interesting trade chip. I believe he'd bring a similar return that Lindholm did from the right team, maybe more.

    Thoughts?

  14. I'd never cheer for the Canucks.

That said I do like them a lot more now than in years past.

The Bieksa, Burrows, Kesler days were insufferable teams, and impossible to like.

They've come a long way since then.

That's nice... but when the season's on the line, you're gonna want the puck on the stick of thick-dick-Nick Ritchie!

    Love.

ESPECIALLY if its a shootout attempt.

Dudes basically a god in the skills comp.

I'm a fan as well.      That says something, because I'm usually a defence-first guy.   But I like Kuzy and I feel he's misunderstood.

I said it before, and I'll say it again.

I'm not sure we got worse on the ice losing Lindholm for Kuzy.    I'm really not sure we got worse.

Not that I'm worried about the draft pick situation, because we were terrible before the trade lol

Agreed. Maybe not as great defensively now but better offensively.

Powerplay unit 1 looked a lot more dangerous with Kuzmenko instead of Lindholm.

  17. Was able to catch this one.

    Few thoughts..

Jack Edwards is awful. Might be the worst commentator ever.

    On the Flames.

I thought Kuzmenko looked good in the O zone. Looked great alongside Huberdeau as both have developed some early chemistry it seems.

You can see Kuzys dynamic hands for sure.

Pelletier was solid. Nothing amazing but made some nice plays.

Need to see more of Pachal but he was engaged physically

  18. Sounds like we could start spitballing ideas on where to pencil in Kylington.

Been practicing with the team and by all accounts has looked pretty good doing so.

Will be nice to get an elite skater like him in the lineup. In my mind he immediately takes Oesterle out of the lineup when he is ready to go.

Id play him on the 3rd pair with Gibby until he is back up to speed then maybe he can be run alongside Tanev again.

All in all, its truly a feel-good story for both him and the team in general as I know the rest of the boys are all stoked to see him back.
