  1. So you are saying MEP needs to step up even more and Mange needs to keep rolling for Canada to have a shot at quarter finals? Works for me.
  2. According to the Flames site, MEP played today and scored. I just mentioned what was in the article.
  3. Mangiapane up to 3 points in 2 games, Petterson scored for Norway. Mackey and Solovyov both played as well.
  4. According to the Main page, 5 players or prospects are listed to play in the world championship. Nesterov for Russia. Rafikov and Khaurnakov (Flames hold both their rights) are both listed as playing for Russia. Mangiapane for Canada. Mackey for USA Petterson for Norway Solovyov for Belarus We can use this thread to track their progress here.
  5. Well, from the Gaudreau interview, sounds like Monahan was injured most of the season. Does this surprise anyone? Information that Tanev was playing with cracked ribs for months. We saw Hanifin go down with an injury and apparently Dube ended the season with a concussion and now won’t be going to the worlds. How many more injuries are we going to hear about over the coming weeks?
  6. All series completed. 2 series wins, 4 series losses end up 5th of 7 in the division. Team really didn’t deserve to be in the playoffs this year.
  7. Guess that sets our draft spot. Next game only affects the Nucks position.
  8. With the overtime win, Flames ahead of Sens in points and can’t be caught by the Nucks. Also sealed the season series win over the Nucks. With 2 games left, can still change draft spots.
  9. Nucks beat the Oilers. Last 3 games mean nothing yet also mean a lot. Draft positions hang in the balance.
  10. I am not a great judge of up and coming talent for the most part. I just don’t really follow juniors as much as others. If this draft is as shallow as many are projecting, and the ideas around best goalie available at Flames draft spot being a usual 2nd or third round pick, I would seriously look at trading down, likely multiple times, to gain more ammo this year or next. If there are really only 3-5 likely game breakers, why settle for an 8-12 pick in a weak draft when you can drop down 2 or 3 times, grab someone in the mid 20s and then pick up 2 or 3 more 2nd / 3rd round picks. The other option would be to trade up. Use extra picks we have and bigger names (Gaudreau, Monahan, Tkachuk) to move up in the draft. I would prefer trading down and think it is more likely, but if we could move into top 3, it could be worth it. From what I am reading on here, 8-12 range is just not that great this year.
  11. Monahan the first player to be shut down for the remainder of the season to solve an ongoing injury. This time it is hip surgery. This is now 3 or 4 seasons in a row he has undergone offseason surgery after playing through an injury. This is a really bad sign for Monahan. He can’t seem to stay healthy for a full season. Sadly other teams see this as well. Glad he has the drive to try and push through, but he isn’t the same player if he’s not healthy. We will see how many more have been playing through injuries in the next couple of weeks.
  12. Flames win.... finally beat the Senators as they should have done all season.
  13. Habs keeping the Flames playoff hopes alive by losing to the Leafs in regulation.
  14. And it is down to 3 points. Any win and overtime for Habs and Jets, or 1 loss and 1 overtime loss or some combination means the Flames are out mathematically.
  15. I would disagree on the reasoning for Wallstedt or other goalies. The reason they likely don’t take another tendy would be the long term contract of Markstrom and the fact that they have Wolf in the system that they will be developing. That is ignoring Zagidulin and Parsons. Only way I see the Flames take a goalie is if they think he can backup Markstrom right away.
  16. Habs win tonight. Back to 6 points behind, even games remaining.
  17. The difference between Bennett and Tkachuk is that Bennett was always on a revolving line mates basis with revolving roles and mostly being tasked with energy/defensive play in the bottom 6 with limited PP time. Tkachuk has consistently been in the top 6, regularly on top PP and until a few weeks ago had consistently played with Backlund. Recently moved to play with Lindholm which hasn’t seemed to work. So the situations for the 2 players are very different. Tkachuk has been given every opportunity to play with high skilled players in an offensive role. Something Bennett never got here. The reason people are now suggesting the need to move Tkachuk has nothing to do with his skill or lack thereof, but because there appears to be a disconnect between him and the rest of the team. He used to try and drag the team into games emotionally, and it just isn’t there recently. Moving Tkachuk and others would indicate a need for a full culture change, and hopefully the current culture has not been engrained yet in players like Hanifin, Valimaki, Dube, Mangiapane etc. It would also allow Tkachuk a change of scenery where he can get his game back while providing the Flames with a big return.
  18. I think that the TDL was a good example of how Treliving is being expected to approach the season. The team needs to be expected to be playing for getting into the playoffs until they are officially eliminated. I am sure even then ownership will want the team to show that they “just missed” by playing as hard as they can. I don’t agree with this or think it should be this way, just what I feel ownership expects to see. Otherwise we would have seen more action at the TDL. Just my thoughts.
  19. 6 points back again with 8 games remaining.
  20. 11 games remaining means a possible 22 points, being 8 points behind means mathematically there is still a ways to go. If the Flames lose all 3 games this weekend to Montreal, they will be down 14 points with 8 games (16 points) available. Still not mathematically eliminated, but basically 0 chance they run the table and Montreal would have to lose every game, same with Vancouver. If Flames win all 3 games , they will only be 2 points back and it will take longer to be mathematically eliminated, if at all. Canucks are only 2 points back of the Flames with 6 games in hand. Their next 4 games are vs the Senators and the Flames and Canucks still have 4 head to head matches. A statistical analysis would say the Flames are likely eliminated already, but I am not that good with stats to say for sure. Monday night, we will either have a clearer picture, or a tighter race. We will see what happens this weekend.
