Looks like Adirondack is going to have to make due with Doug Carr and recently signed college free agent Clay Witt. I am assuming that Brad Thiessen, the only goalie left that is under contract with Calgary, will be called up.

Looks like its Hiller's turn to go on a run. He really kept us in it tonight versus Dallas.

I thought we won in spite of Ramo last night. The two goals that he let in fall squarely on his shoulders. He was way out of position on the Tanguay goal, which should have been an easy save. He wasn't square to the shooter on the Landeskog goal which also should have been an easy save. I think Ramo has the ability to be a top goalie in this league but he has to quiet his game down. He moves too much in the net for my liking.
  4. http://flames.nhl.com/club/m_news.htm?id=757897 Looks like Douglas Murray is in Calgary on a try-out basis. If he does sign he won't be eligible for the playoffs but could be good depth down the stretch.

Ramo has been good for us on this road trip, but I am not sure I have seen enough of him to feel very comfortable re-signing him and trading Hiller. For me he is still largely an unproven goaltender at the NHL level. If I was to re-sign Ramo it would to a 1 year contract with a paycut to his $2.75mill that is getting this year. Also just throwing this out there Thiessen is a solid AHL goalie, so I am not worried at all if he was the number 1 in Stockton next year. His numbers are identical to Ortio in Adirondack this year.

Ramo is 28 and will be 29 by the time next season starts. He has crazy home/away splits. Home: 12GP/3.01GAA/.891SV% Away: 12GP/1.87GAA/.938SV%

Is there something specific that you are thinking of.
  8. I like it except Brodie and Wideman are both right defensemen. I would go with: Russell/Brodie Schlemko/Wideman Diaz/Engelland

Not sure what you are meaning or getting at?
  10. Wotherspoon was sent to Adirondack.
  11. Wotherspoon was terrible defensively last year in his call up. He had a team low -20.71 SAT/60 last year amongst defensemen.
  12. Roger Millions is reporting that Wotherspoon isn't at practice today. I am guessing he was sent back to Adirondack with Raymond coming off the paternity list.
  13. Calgary has put Giordano on IR. He is heading back to Calgary.
  14. Well we just claimed Schlemko. Not a bad move considering our lack of depth. Hartley doesn't seem to comfortable playing Potter and I am not sure Wotherspoon is NHL ready.
  15. I get what you are saying but Brodie plays against the other teams top lines, I am not ready to throw Wotherspoon to the wolves like that, especially not the wolf known as John Tavares. I trust Russell to be able pick up some of the slack as he has played well this year. Wideman playing against top lines is pretty scary as well. I like the idea of going with 7D just to spread out the minutes a bit.
  16. Who steps up into the top pairing tonight, with Gio out? If it was me I would go with. Russell/Brodie Wotherspoon/Wideman Diaz/Engelland

Niemi has almost identical numbers to Hiller over the last couple of seasons. He has a cup ring. Plus he can be had for just a contract if San Jose doesn't re-sign him.

I don't think Hiller will be as easy to trade as some people think. He makes $4.5mill so no team is going to bring him in as a backup so he has to go somewhere where will be a starter, that leaves a very limited amount of teams. Buffalo: There is talk that they may re-sign Neuvirth, I don't see them giving up much to get Hiller. Edmonton: Maybe a fit here, the most we get in return is a Ference, Fayne, or a Nikitin. Minnesota: I think they re-sign Dubnyk. Philadelphia: Makes some sense, but Mason has been good for them, just can't stay healthy. San Jose: I think they go with a young goalie. So that is maybe 5 teams. One of those 5 teams will go after Niemi first.

I totally think it was Wiseman's fault. Sure it was a bouncing puck, but you don't play a bouncing puck into the middle of the ice. It is these type of plays that make me nervous having Wideman playing so much down the stretch. I agree neither goalie is going anywhere this year.

I disagree with the idea that Ramo will be resigned if he doesn't get traded by Monday. If we do trade him the most we would get is a 4th rounder, I think a 5th/6th is more accurate. I think with Ortio pushing his way into the lineup makes Ramo expendable for next season.

http://www.tsn.ca/dreger-report-teams-lining-up-for-o-connor-1.215858 Apparently we are in the running for Matt O'Connor, a 6'5" 23 year old goalie from Boston University. He has really good stats this year, previous to that they were OK. He would help our depth for next year.

Ramo isn't an upgrade over Hiller or Ortio at this point so I don't see the point in bringing him back next year. Hiller has been very solid for us this year, and Ortio will be ready to back up next year. Gillies was ready to sign last year, but Burke told him to go back to college and work on his game. So I am pretty sure he will be signed this spring. He might even be able to get into some games in the AHL this spring after his college season is over.
  23. I wouldn't mind seeing Potter in to replace Engelland for a few games, just to see what he can bring, he can't be any worse than Engelland.

Pat Steinberg (@Fan960Steinberg) tweeted at 0:06 PM on Sat, Feb 21, 2015: Brad Treliving says Joni Ortio is likely out 6-8 weeks with a lower body injury sustained last night.

Hiller has been a very solid, stabilizing presence in net for us this year. He will be back next year and serve as a mentor for Ortio. As far as Ramo goes, my guess is that he heads back overseas to play next year.
