It seemed like typical Ramo, he will make some incredible saves and then let in some goals that a more technically sound goalie would save. The first goal was very stoppable, Ramo just had keep his glove where it was. Instead he dropped it and then tried to bring it back up, all while sliding away from his post opening up the short side. The 5th goal was just awful, the puck should never go in from that angle. With that said he wasn't the only reason we lost, the whole team played bad.
  2. In Disneyland watching the Flames game at ESPNZone. Not exactly what the family signed up for but hey its hockey season.

Lucky. I went in 2010 and 2012. I need to get back there.

  3. If a prospect can't outplay Colton Orr for a spot than they really aren't that great of a prospect. There is still a fair bit of goonery in the AHL so need to have an enforcer that can protect the kids, or else you will have guys taking runs at prospects trying to make a name for himself. As far as Freddie Hamilton goes, think a better skating RHS Max Reinhart and that's Freddie Hamilton.
  4. The enforcer position is still very much alive and well in the AHL. I read a tweet earlier that said that the California division us chalk full of enforcers.

The problem is that if we are thinking of trading Hiller at the deadline it most likely out of the playoffs and part of that can attributed to Hiller not playing up to par or that Ramo or Ortio has out played Hiller. Either way it really hurts the trade value of Hiller.

I agree, I would go as far as to say that I don't think we would be a playoff team with a Ramo/Ortio combo.

I see it a bit different, Ramo and Hiller getting half starts is because the coaching staff already knows what they have in those two. While Ortio still has to prove himself and show what he's got, hence the full start.

We all like Ortio and we all want to see what he can do, I think everyone here can agree on that point. What Ortio's potential is and if he is ready for the next step is another debate. I take the approach of being cautiously optimistic. I think he could be ready to be a back up, but I still not 100% sold on that. He is nowhere near ready to be a NHL starter at this point. He hasn't shown any level of consistency and his overall stats don't jump out at you. We really need to temper our expectations of what Ortio is at this point, he has 15 career games at the NHL level and a sub par .899 save % in those games. I agree that I would hate to lose the player, but if he isn't cutting it we will need to have both Ramo and Hiller around. In the words of Josh Donaldson "This isn't the try league. This is the get it done league."

I don't quite get the hate for Hiller. He played a huge roll in getting us into the playoffs and then he played very well and won us the first round. One bad game against Anaheim and everyone is ready to send him packing. Meanwhile Ramo didn't fare much better against Anaheim and everyone is ready to anoint him the starter and a possible Vezina candidate (sorry travel_dude I couldn't resist). I understand that Hiller isn't a star number 1 goalie but he is the closest thing we have to a number 1. In my mind Ramo is a good solid back up goalie, but of the three (Hiller, Ramo, Ortio) Ramo makes me the most neverous when he is in the net. He is consistently out of position, if he could fix this part of his game then I could see him really stepping up, but at 30 years old I am not sure we will see much improvement from him. My guess is that if Ortio steals the job from Ramo, Ramo is headed over seas. I can't see anyone wanting Ramo's contract.

http://flames.nhl.com/club/m_news.htm?id=780271 Flames have signed 18 year old goalie Nick Schneider from the Medicine Hat Tigers. Looked good in the half game I watched. Can never have enough goalie prospects.

Both Hiller and Ramo have their warts there is no doubt about that, if we could blend them together we would end up with a very good goalie. Take Ramo's athleticism and battle in the crease and add it to Hiller's calmness and strong positioning and you have the skills to be a strong goalie in this league. Ortio seems to have the athletic ability but also doesn't over play the puck. The biggest thing for him is just experience and consistency. He was still injured in the last game of the season, I believe it was a high ankle sprain which takes a long time to really recover from. In the exit interviews he said he would be spending the entire off season rehabing from that injury.

Ortio? I seen the other day that Sean Burke left Arizona, if he is available he would be the guy to get Ramo to the next level. Ramo has the athletic ability to be a very good goalie, he just too aggressive in his play leading him to be out of position too often. That is the biggest reason I am more nervous when he is net compared to Hiller.

I wonder if Minnesota is going to be looking at trading Darcy Kuemper. They have Devan Dubnyk as their number 1 and then they have to choose between Kuemper and Niklas Backstrom. Backstrom is signed to a 35+ contract, so if they buy him out his cap hit still counts against the cap. Kuemper is a 25 year goalie, with upside. Maybe a 3rd or a 4th for Kuemper makes sense.

I think $3.5 mill is still too high for Ramo. I would rather go after Neuvirth, I think he is the best goalie left on the UFA market.

He is one of the most respected hockey "insiders" out there, I have no reason to not believe what he is saying. If you don't trust Dreger do you believe McKenzie. Bob McKenzie (@TSNBobMcKenzie) tweeted at 8:29 AM on Fri, Jun 26, 2015: NYR have offer(s) of two second-round picks for Cam Talbot. Waiting to see if they can increase that yield. CGY, EDM, DAL amongst suitors.

Mark Easson (@myNHLTradeRumor) tweeted at 11:01 AM on Tue, Jun 23, 2015: Dreger saying two 2nd round picks for Cam Talbot didn't get a deal done. Hopefully we are staying away from Talbot and hopefully we weren't the team to make that offer. That is an over payment for a guy with 57 NHL games under his belt.

Honestly the best place for Ramo is probably Arizona. Go work with Sean Burke, smooth out his game. The talent and ability he just needs to refine his game.

We keep getting linked to Cam Talbot, which is very scary to me. Talbot reminds me if Chad Johnson who had a very good numbers while playing on very strong defensive team in Boston but since moving from there has been very averge. I can see the same thing happening with Talbot. An interesting name that I saw us linked to is Devan Dubnyk, which is alao kind of scary because he wants to get paid for one good season. I wouldn't give him the $5-6 mill on a multi year deal that he is looking for. Maybe $3-4mill on a 2-3 year deal.

I would be shocked if Ramo got that big of contract this offseason, and I know I might be in the minority on this but I don't think he has earned that much money. The Rangers don't have the cap space to take on Hiller's contract so I don't see the fit there. There are a lot goalies on the market this offseason, guys like Talbot and Lehner, but I can see Vacouver moving Markstrom or Lack, L.A. might move Jones. There was a big thing in Toronto where Bernier's wife posted a picture of their 10 month old, and the child wasn't wearing a Maple Leafs shirt when all the other milestone pictures their child was wearing a Maple Leafs shirt. So he might be available. I see all these guys as better options than either Hiller or Ramo so I am not sure there is much of a market for either of them. I wouldn't be at all shocked when it is all said and done that Ramo is playing over seas next season.

Ian Mendes (@ian_mendes) tweeted at 9:12 AM on Thu, Jun 18, 2015: Murray confirms they are trying to add a forward - like Greening or Legwand - to a goalie deal so they could move some salary. Does taking on Legwand to get Lehner for cheaper make sense. Legwand has one more year at $3mill. I have been a fan of Lehner for awhile, at 23 I think he has tremendous upside and can be a star in this league. I like Lehner way more than Talbot, and I heard that Edmonton had offered the 16th pick in the draft for Talbot, so I would be out of the bidding at that point.

Darren Dreger (@DarrenDreger) tweeted at 9:03 AM on Thu, Jun 18, 2015: Cam Talbot is a hot commodity. Edmtn, Cgy, SJ, Dallas + Florida have expressed interest. Multiple trade offers. First 3 most likely targets. It seems like we are in on every goalie on the market, I am thinking Ramo won't be back next year.

http://www.mynhltraderumors.com/2015/06/17/rumors-i-senators-sharks-and-flyers/ Looks like Calgary has checked to see the availability of Robin Lehner. The current asking price is a bit much, but if we can get him for a pick I would prefer going with him over Ramo. I think Lehner has a lot of upside.
