They have some injuries, but could also be because there is a trade coming lol. -

Because of their need at center, when I looked at the teams rumored to be on Hanifin I think there were 2 plan As for the Flames.
Can you get Poitras out of Boston
Can you get Lundell out of Florida
If you can get 1 of those 2 pieces plus a pick or 2 you've done well IMO. No idea if there is validity to this or not but I think you are doing well if you get Poitras from Boston.
I guess I am just not that high Poitras, he was really underwhelming at the WJC, which is a small sample size. He is pretty small for center. I am willing to be wrong, and maybe I am being too harsh on him as a future piece.

That's actually more than I thought Hanifin would return so I personally would not find that underwhelming.
I can understand where Poitras is overhyped but i still consider him a high end prospect. I don't think he's a top line guy but I think you've got yourself a potentially really good middle 6 center there. That and a first is a good return for a pending UFA IMO.
Poitras is also out for the year with a shoulder injury. -
Not sure if the last part is his guess at the package, but it’s pretty underwhelming.
Poitras has been overhyped because the Bruins rushed him to the NHL because they needed cheap players. Grzelcyk and Forbort don’t add any value.

Eklund is saying that Vegas is in on Tanev, as well as the Devils, Leafs, Lightning and Jets.
He is also saying that Montreal might come in and be a 3rd party to to take some cap to facilitate the Markstrom trade to NJ.
I know it's Eklund so you have to take everything with a grain of salt, but I can't see Montreal agreeing to take a portion of Markstrom's cap for the next few years. I also don't get why Calgary would pay to have another eat cap when they are capable of eating that cap themselves.

2nd Kings game we have scouted in the last while, mind you we play the Kings in a week.
Hanifin would make a lot of sense for LA. They have their next two 1st’s and Alex Turcotte and Arthur Kaliyev would be somewhat interesting add ons.

Yes and be greedy and ask for their 2026 first…why not?
Well I am pretty sure Hanifin and Tkachuk are good buddies, so I definitely could see Hanifin wanting to sign long term in Florida. So maybe we work out another sign and trade with Florida. -
Anton Lundel would be a nice return.- 1

There has been some rumblings that Hanifin would prefer to go to Tampa and that’s where he would like to sign long term, and that he is trying to steer talks that way.
Tampa can fit him in without having to retain because of Sergachev’s injury.
They don’t have a 1st this year or next. No 2nd this year either. Their prospects are fairly uninteresting. Issac Howard, Ethan Gauthier and Dylan Duke at forward are all sort of in that B level. Jack Thompson might be the most intriguing prospect they have, 21 year old RHD, has 32 points in 45 games playing for Syracuse in the AHL. If there is a trade with Tampa the talks begin with Thompson and go from there.

I would much rather trade with Dallas, but it will be difficult cap wise. Not sure who they would be willing to move off of their current roster to make room for Hanifin or Tanev.

Could be scouting Dallas for a Hannifin trade?
2nd game in a row that Calgary has been watching Boston and I am pretty sure it is Nonis at both games. -
Scouting Boston again. Not exactly sure who in their lineup we would be targeting. Frederic?

Seen this rumoured trade:
to Pho
Anderson
(maybe more didn’t notice)
to Cgy
2024 first rounder
26 year old Crouse L/Rw
22 year old Soderstrom (sp) D
thoughts?
If It’s just Anderson I’d say that’s a steal of a deal!
if it’s more how Much more would be too much?
Even it’s just Andersson that’s a hard no for me. Crouse is a good player, but he is a 3rd liner. Soderstrom hasn’t been able to catch on with the Coyotes and will probably be available on waivers soon. A 1st is nice, but it will be a middle round pick.- 1

If Hanifin is going to Boston, which I have a hard time seeing, hopefully it happens sooner than later. We would most likely have to take Grzelcyk back to make the cap work.
I am pretty sure you could flip Grzelcyk for a 3rd at the deadline.
-
Mittlestadt is said to be available, but I am just not 100% sure he is a fit here. He is a pass first player so that means he most likely doesn’t fit with Huberdeau. So unless he is playing LW with Kadri I am not sure where he would fit in our lineup.
Buffalo most likely isn’t moving Cozens or Thompson.

Wonder if Calgary is looking at Turcotte. -

This hasn’t been picked up nationally but locally the buzz is certainly there that Markstrom won’t be a Flame much longer
My guess is that the deal is pretty much done, but NJ and the NHL wants to wait till after the Stadium Series. -
Claiming Phillips never really made a much sense IMO. Not sure where he would fit in our current lineup. You could argue swapping him for Duehr on the 4th line, but I don’t think that does a whole lot for the team.
-
I agree with Cross, he has done everything he can do in the AHL, now you have to give him some runway in the NHL and see what you have.

I'm not suggesting they move Andersson quickly either. for sure the package has to be good.
But what i would say is I don't agree with this idea of having this huge trade asks and then holding on to players for longer trying to get teams to meet it. If the plan is to re tool and the focus is being better in 2-3 years from now then why hang on to Andersson? Your shopping him now with 2 years of control and a bargain contract so the likelihood that you get a better return than you are going to get right now is small IMO.
Doesn't make sense to me to hold on to a 34 year old goalie and it doesn't make sense to me to hold on to a dman who will be a 29 year old UFA if I can get pieces that make me better 2-3 years from now. Trading years of control and cap savings is a huge assets in today's game. if conroy and co truly do have the luxury of time on their side they'd be very wise to us it IMO.
Price should be high yes, i'm just saying the Flames should be more intentional around moving him then simply waiting back and hoping someone sends you a hail mary.
I would just say that if you are moving out Markstrom, Andersson, Hanifin, and Tanev and have already moved out Lindholm and Zadorov, it would suggest more of a rebuild than a retool. Which is fine with me, it just goes counter to what Conroy and management have been saying all season. -
Wolf was not great last night, but to be fair that was one of the worst games defensively that I have seen Calgary play in a long time.
There is no doubt that Wolf has elite athleticism, but he looks tiny in net, and a lot of times he does things to make himself look smaller somehow. He still needs to figure out ways to look bigger without losing any of that agility. Saros is small goalie but he seems huge compared to Wolf.

Depth roster shuffling continues.
Wolf also back down
Even if they trade Markstrom to the Devils, I would assume that a goalie is coming back the other way. Vanecek makes the most sense for NJ, and quite honestly it probably makes the most sense for Calgary as well.
So they had to make room on the roster either way.

Kevin Weeks does walk the line between entertainer and insider but noteworthy nonetheless.
also worth considering that Anderson only has 2 more year's left and then will be UFA at 29 so taking calls makes a ton of sense to me.
I would inquire aboutAndersson too if I was a GM. A RHS who can play on your top pair at best and top 4 at worst who makes under $5m. One of the more underrated defenders in the league, even on his own team.
We do need to retain some defensive depth here, so a team would have to come with an over the top return before I would consider it.

Realistic (and unrealistic) Trades - 2024 Edition
in Flames Talk

Calgary has been scouting LA a lot lately as well as Boston, so I could see LA having a lot of interest in Hanifin, Markstrom and Tanev.
