  1. Can’t imagine he is too happy hearing every NHL insider say that the Devils have identified Markstrom as the goalie they want and that they will be willing to go into the summer to get him. Shifts the power back to Conroy in the negotiations. Have to think that if Calgary opens it up at the draft the price for Markstrom goes up as well.
  2. I think Kuzmenko was a calculated gamble. He is a guy who is coming off 39 goals, the talent is there, you hope that he can regain that form and click with Huberdeau. Ceci is a 3rd pairing defensemen that is terrible defensively and offensively, zero upside with taking on his contract.
  3. Also if I am Conroy I am fine with taking a player as a cap dump, but not one with term. I want to keep my cap situation as flexible as possible going into the draft and into next season.
  4. On capfriendly, if you go to a teams page, look for a link that says Reserve List. This will show all the players that the team has rights too.
  5. Apparently is was Edmonton offering a 1st for Tanev, but Calgary would’ve had to take a roster player. I thought I had read that it was a player with term as well that they had to take to get a 1st. I think Conroy was smart to take the Dallas deal.
  6. Knight would be a high upside gamble type return. The biggest issue I would have with him, is I don’t think you can go with Knight and Wolf in the NHL next year. I will say I am not 100% sold on Wolf’s ability at the NHL level, I am not saying he can’t do it, just that the games I have seen him in he looks not just small in the net he looks tiny. The problem with a Hanifin trade is trying to shoehorn him into teams that he is willing to re-sign with. Those teams either have no cap space and/or no picks or prospects. He also has a an 8 team no trade list, I am assuming that he has submitted that already, and I am assuming that 6 of those teams are the other Canadian teams.
  7. I think Florida will try to get Forsling resigned he has been great for them. I can see Montour wanting to get paid based on the 72 points he put up last year, but he has come back to earth this year, so I could see them letting him walk. Hanifin makes a lot of sense for Florida. I think you have to do everything you can to get Lundell in return. Mackie Samoskevich would be a good get as well.
  8. I don’t think he is the type of player you want around your young players, IMO I wouldn’t bring him in. Not to mention I wouldn’t want to take that cap hit.
  9. Wouldn’t be surprised to see Conroy be active in the college free agent market. Feel like that’s an area he has always had a pulse on. Collin Graf and Jacob Quillan are two names to watch for. Possibly Lukas Sillinger as well.
  10. Trading him now or trading him at the draft, doesn’t change much, except at the draft you will most likely have more suitors. As of right now NJ is the only team that is said to have interest, kind of hard to drive up the price when you only have one team competing for Markstrom. So Conroy has to decide if NJ’s offer is the best offer he is going to get or wait till the draft and see if he gets better offers then, or if just holding onto Markstrom is what is best for the Flames. The other side is that Markstrom has a full NMC, so he gets to decide when, where or if he gets traded.
  11. The problem is there are only so many true number 1 goalies in the league, but teams are learning that you don’t necessarily need a number 1 to win a Cup, so you aren’t going to get a huge return for a goalie anymore. That being said teams that do have the rare true number 1 goalie don’t want to part with them easily because they are hard to find, and they do help you get to the playoffs. So it creates this odd push/pull in value.
  12. According to Seravalli the Preds aren't moving Saros as long as they are in a playoff spot. That takes some leverage away from NJ in converstations regarding Markstrom. That being said I think a Markstrom trade is more of an off-season trade. Four games between now and the deadline, I am not sure it makes a whole lot of sense for the Flames to sit any of their assets, maybe on the 7th they can sit Tanev and Hanifin.
  13. Calgary has been scouting LA a lot lately as well as Boston, so I could see LA having a lot of interest in Hanifin, Markstrom and Tanev.
  14. They have some injuries, but could also be because there is a trade coming lol.
  15. I guess I am just not that high Poitras, he was really underwhelming at the WJC, which is a small sample size. He is pretty small for center. I am willing to be wrong, and maybe I am being too harsh on him as a future piece.
  16. Poitras is also out for the year with a shoulder injury.
  17. Not sure if the last part is his guess at the package, but it’s pretty underwhelming. Poitras has been overhyped because the Bruins rushed him to the NHL because they needed cheap players. Grzelcyk and Forbort don’t add any value.
  18. Eklund is saying that Vegas is in on Tanev, as well as the Devils, Leafs, Lightning and Jets. He is also saying that Montreal might come in and be a 3rd party to to take some cap to facilitate the Markstrom trade to NJ. I know it's Eklund so you have to take everything with a grain of salt, but I can't see Montreal agreeing to take a portion of Markstrom's cap for the next few years. I also don't get why Calgary would pay to have another eat cap when they are capable of eating that cap themselves.
  19. 2nd Kings game we have scouted in the last while, mind you we play the Kings in a week. Hanifin would make a lot of sense for LA. They have their next two 1st’s and Alex Turcotte and Arthur Kaliyev would be somewhat interesting add ons.
  20. Well I am pretty sure Hanifin and Tkachuk are good buddies, so I definitely could see Hanifin wanting to sign long term in Florida. So maybe we work out another sign and trade with Florida.
  21. There has been some rumblings that Hanifin would prefer to go to Tampa and that’s where he would like to sign long term, and that he is trying to steer talks that way. Tampa can fit him in without having to retain because of Sergachev’s injury. They don’t have a 1st this year or next. No 2nd this year either. Their prospects are fairly uninteresting. Issac Howard, Ethan Gauthier and Dylan Duke at forward are all sort of in that B level. Jack Thompson might be the most intriguing prospect they have, 21 year old RHD, has 32 points in 45 games playing for Syracuse in the AHL. If there is a trade with Tampa the talks begin with Thompson and go from there.
  22. I would much rather trade with Dallas, but it will be difficult cap wise. Not sure who they would be willing to move off of their current roster to make room for Hanifin or Tanev.
  23. 2nd game in a row that Calgary has been watching Boston and I am pretty sure it is Nonis at both games.
