  1. Philly had to take Johansen to get the 1st, so there is your bad contract.
  2. Well Philly just got a 1st for Sean Walker, so if Calgary can’t get a 1st for Hanifin, I will be a bit surprised.
  3. LA is putting Jaret Anderson-Dolan and Jacob Moverare on waivers. Anderson-Dolan would make sense if we are looking for center depth, especially if the rumours about Rooney being on the move at the deadline are true.
  4. That is a pretty solid pick up for them though, add some depth scoring at 50% for a 3rd.
  5. I think Solovyov and Kuznetsov are better off getting big minutes in the AHL. I don't think they are quite ready for the NHL, they are close but not there yet.
  6. With Andersson, Weegar and Pachal as the only defensemen signed for next year it makes sense to add some veteran depth to what is most likely going to be a younger defensive core next year. I would guess that Kylington is going to get an extension soon. That leaves a spot in the top 4 and a spot on the bottom pairing.
  7. Phillips was claimed by Washington not Calgary.
  8. Needed defensive depth, so claiming Hanley makes sense. Hanley makes league minimum and is signed for next year. He is 32, so I am guessing this is strictly a depth pick up.
  9. Holtz as a return is starting to grow on me. I would prefer a center or a defenseman with top 4 upside, but Holtz has shown that he can produce in limited minutes. Only Hischier and Bratt are averaging more points per 60 minutes on NJ, he is also 1st in goals per 60 minutes (both averages are at 5v5).
  10. Can’t imagine he is too happy hearing every NHL insider say that the Devils have identified Markstrom as the goalie they want and that they will be willing to go into the summer to get him. Shifts the power back to Conroy in the negotiations. Have to think that if Calgary opens it up at the draft the price for Markstrom goes up as well.
  11. I think Kuzmenko was a calculated gamble. He is a guy who is coming off 39 goals, the talent is there, you hope that he can regain that form and click with Huberdeau. Ceci is a 3rd pairing defensemen that is terrible defensively and offensively, zero upside with taking on his contract.
  12. Also if I am Conroy I am fine with taking a player as a cap dump, but not one with term. I want to keep my cap situation as flexible as possible going into the draft and into next season.
  13. On capfriendly, if you go to a teams page, look for a link that says Reserve List. This will show all the players that the team has rights too.
  14. Apparently is was Edmonton offering a 1st for Tanev, but Calgary would’ve had to take a roster player. I thought I had read that it was a player with term as well that they had to take to get a 1st. I think Conroy was smart to take the Dallas deal.
  15. Knight would be a high upside gamble type return. The biggest issue I would have with him, is I don’t think you can go with Knight and Wolf in the NHL next year. I will say I am not 100% sold on Wolf’s ability at the NHL level, I am not saying he can’t do it, just that the games I have seen him in he looks not just small in the net he looks tiny. The problem with a Hanifin trade is trying to shoehorn him into teams that he is willing to re-sign with. Those teams either have no cap space and/or no picks or prospects. He also has a an 8 team no trade list, I am assuming that he has submitted that already, and I am assuming that 6 of those teams are the other Canadian teams.
  16. I think Florida will try to get Forsling resigned he has been great for them. I can see Montour wanting to get paid based on the 72 points he put up last year, but he has come back to earth this year, so I could see them letting him walk. Hanifin makes a lot of sense for Florida. I think you have to do everything you can to get Lundell in return. Mackie Samoskevich would be a good get as well.
  17. I don’t think he is the type of player you want around your young players, IMO I wouldn’t bring him in. Not to mention I wouldn’t want to take that cap hit.
  18. Wouldn’t be surprised to see Conroy be active in the college free agent market. Feel like that’s an area he has always had a pulse on. Collin Graf and Jacob Quillan are two names to watch for. Possibly Lukas Sillinger as well.
  19. Trading him now or trading him at the draft, doesn’t change much, except at the draft you will most likely have more suitors. As of right now NJ is the only team that is said to have interest, kind of hard to drive up the price when you only have one team competing for Markstrom. So Conroy has to decide if NJ’s offer is the best offer he is going to get or wait till the draft and see if he gets better offers then, or if just holding onto Markstrom is what is best for the Flames. The other side is that Markstrom has a full NMC, so he gets to decide when, where or if he gets traded.
  20. The problem is there are only so many true number 1 goalies in the league, but teams are learning that you don’t necessarily need a number 1 to win a Cup, so you aren’t going to get a huge return for a goalie anymore. That being said teams that do have the rare true number 1 goalie don’t want to part with them easily because they are hard to find, and they do help you get to the playoffs. So it creates this odd push/pull in value.
  21. According to Seravalli the Preds aren't moving Saros as long as they are in a playoff spot. That takes some leverage away from NJ in converstations regarding Markstrom. That being said I think a Markstrom trade is more of an off-season trade. Four games between now and the deadline, I am not sure it makes a whole lot of sense for the Flames to sit any of their assets, maybe on the 7th they can sit Tanev and Hanifin.
