As Flames fans we lived through the rough times, cheered them either way. I was a fan who loved they had a no die attitude, tried all the time. I didn't fully go into a critical fan until about 5 years after '04. But the fans who didn't live or die with the team, I felt didn't deserve to be a part of the glory we had to wait patiently for. I think Iginla got a lot of people on the bandwagon, I think they would've gotten way less support from Edmonton area if they didn't have a local as the captain. And 2002 Olympics was still fresh in a lot of Canadian hockey fans minds where he was huge in the gold medal game, and the story about him getting strangers a hotel room really made him a likeable guy across the country.

The cup lives in Canada full time why the heck should we care if a "Canadian team" wins it? The national angle to this is stupid. No Boston Pizza I am not going to go and have a beer with Oiler fans to "try something different" so a Canadian team might win a cup. who the heck cares. Boston Pizza cares. Like omg, you guys, you're so racialist against your own brethren. Like omg. Go to Boston Pizza and have some "fresh" wings and pasta. (Is it still $9 pints, or more now?). Relax and run a tab. What is wrong with you robots err people? But seriously, the government is now putting chips in McDavid paraphernalia and jerseys. Satoshi Nakamotos getting real... Hopefully everyone can get with Boston Pizza and the Oilers. They'll completely change your perspective. Like, do you people not live in trailer parks? What's up with you? I'm totally being serious. Why do you embrace anarchy? lol It's so Blockchaining dumb I hardly know where to begin.
cross16
I just don't prescribe to this idea of "Canada's team". Canada's team is Team Canada outside of the Flames I could care less if a Canadian team wins the cup. I don't get the nationality piece behind it.

Because networks/TV ads are broadcasted nationally so they want us to watch and cheer nationally. If we could care less then they make less money. (And we could care less, I agree). Thus they have to amp up the sloganeering.

They obviously don’t care. I guess hockey isn’t all that important anymore…

I don't see how it makes any difference which team you cheer for if you are watching the SCF. If you are watching it, you are a hockey fan or a fan of either team. A broadcaster isn't going to make more money because we decide to cheer for a Canadian team. As an aside, the color palette of the Oilers jersey makes me want to hurl. It ain't copper and blue. It's the same gross orange that the Ducks used to use. Sea of Orange at the Duck Pond. Of the 20,000 odd Oiler jerseys in the arena, what % are not #97? 25%? Okay, more obvious question, how many are not 97 or 29? 5%? And how can you walk around with an orange jersey on? Red is one thing, but orange is just pissed on red (red and yellow = orange). Support the flag jersey at all levels. Europeans rip home asap to sport their country's colours. A billionaire's side-hustle is nowhere close to the equivalent of representing your country. But undoubtedly they'll find randoms across the country to prove their point. The answer they want need only apply.

Maybe well get lucky and see the end of the final in 4 games , Oilers new building to see the Cup going to the opposing team would be icing on the cake. Thebrewcrew
When the travel is this significant. The two day break between games makes sense. Calgary and Tampa was essentially the same type of travel. With the exception of game 4-5. It was every other day. I wish the league would take into consideration the travel before releasing the schedule. I know they worry about the NBA finals. I don’t think the NHL is ever out draw the NBA in viewership again. I remember the Pittsburgh Nashville series had two day breaks every time there was travel. That’s has become the norm. That series didn’t really need it though. They’re an 8hr drive between cities . The NHL is so focused on TV they are forgetting about the fans. The season is far too long, too much money, costs too high. Why I gave up watching years ago. I agree, it would be nice to see things wrapped up. Theres the “unwritten rule” of not making trades during the final. It makes it really hard to do when there’s only three days between the final and draft.

medatswhoP
Oilers lost , no surprise overall no depth on this grease team. Also FLA goaltending elite vs. Skinner. Winning a cup with two superstars isn't enough, 1 down 3 to go. (Dallas should be playing this). Nurse + Ceci pairing = "Nobs" reckless coaching. I do wonder if Conroy and Fitzgerald already have a deal in place for Markstrom but just waiting for the Cup Finals to wrap up first. Don't want a big trade to over shadow the playoffs. Makes Bettman angry.

They're going to be having #16 nightmares. He's always there. I love this for Bobrovsky. "Hey look everyone, I'm worth $10.5". Edmonton's best will have to be better. That Nurse-Ceci pair, oh boy. Bob is a lot of fun to watch. His flexibility is incredible. He’s so good with his edges too. So good at sealing the lower part of the net. One of the best signings out of the KHL of all time. Good find by Philly. But they chose Bryz instead.
