GDT - Calgary @ Carolina- 03/10/2024 - 3:00pm MST Start

Recommended Posts

One of the better games the Canes have played all year they mentioned on their broadcast vs. one of our worst showings at the same time.  Take the loss, throw the tape out, shrug it off and be prepared better next game.

Some excuses for you.

3rd game in 4 nights (days) with travel.

No practice time since they got new players.

Lost 2/3 of the Kadri line.

I'm not expecting much once they get back home against the AVS, but the following players may be suiting up for that game; Zary, Pospisil and Greer

Good lord the linesmen completely crapped the bed.

Needed a good save to stop the clock.

Wasn't close.

By comp, the one called on Hunt was not offside that they called.

This was 5 feet offside by the guy exiting the zone.

Avs on Tuesday, they get to sleep in a couple days hope that helps.

So, that's travel tonight, then maybe practice tomorrow?

Optional skate maybe.

Game evry two days until the 18th.

AVS, VGK, MTL (annouing fans) then WAS.

Converted touchdown win.

This game really opens the holes we have to fix in this team, like i said its a good loss to take.

Like a game where Markstrom saves the day, this really didn't provide a lot of info.

I hope we get a better read on the team over the next 7 losses.  LOL

Not a playoff team showing in the last two.

We were not a playoff team before the sell off.

Since the ASG, we are 9-6-0.  .600 points %

Before the last two lossses we were 9-4-0 .692 points %

So, before the last 2 losses (pre TDL) we were winning at a rate that would get us 95 points.

14-6-0 to get in.

That more or less is the cutoff.

I don't suggest it made us likely to win a round.

But now we are looking at needing to win 75% of our games to even hit 94.

The realist suggests we would not have been able to keep up winning at .692

The players probably knew they had to win 7 of 10 to get in.

Two losses like that makes it closer to impossible.

14-4-0

something about that, the pundits talk about the start, what if.... they have been playing a certain clip... they're not a playoff team. They didn't have a good start. They had good stretches. They had bad stretches. They had good stretches and more bad ones...

After the Tanev and Hanifin trades, I think that all but the most delusional fans are not expecting the Flames to make the play-offs this season.

To me, all that is left to determine is does Calgary pick 8th or 16th pre-lottery?

I'll never cheer for losses, but I know where I'd like to see them pick.

So, you have to look at team finishes more than starts.

STL was last in the the conference and went on a complete tear.

Pedestrian in January with a 7-6-0 record.

Next 13 games 9-4-0.

Nothing that happened the rest of the season is an indicator of what we would finish the season like.

Hindsight is good, in that you can show a pattern of what happened.

It was possible to continue winning like that.

Wouldn't guarantee a playoff spot, but puts us in the battle to the last games.

The turning point for this team was the Seattle loss.

That was the signal that we wouldn't recover.

4 point game.

It's why we traded with Vegas.

When you get to a certain point, math is all you have to go on.

The only magic number we will have is when we are eliminated.

I know it truly is losses by us and wins by team X, or X and Y, but

we have 4 home games in 7 days which could seal our fate quick.

Lose all 4 and it's virtually impossible to get in.  Would need a

14 game winning streak to fininsh the season.

Unlikely that any of them we would even be spoilers or important 4 pointers.

I am actually happier that we lost 2 in a row, since it makes the next losses less

painful.  The GM can instruct the coach to start using players in try outs.

We have 2 call ups remaining.  Bring up Wolf.  Call up Grush.  Try Oky.

Probably won't happen until game 78, but it makes no sense to ruin Markstrom.

Him and Mangiapane are our last trade chips for the summer.  Give Marky a

game against MTL.  What is the point of winning another 6 extra games.
