Shouldn't they be taught to understand this? I know exactly who is where on the ice when I play and what their roles are and if they jump into play, and I'm the closest to that player jumping, I cover them... it's so simple! Are hockey players just dumb nowadays? The coach is telling them to stop taking chances. Don't do anything creative or you get the bench. Dump and chase but only send one guy in cuz we give up the N zone when 2 go in. It's Sutter hockey and we have half a Sutter roster. It worked more last year because we gained the zone easier. We are playing the way we did when Gio was here. D-men pass up along your strong side. Doesn't connect most times. We are feet still when we are dumping it in or one guy enters. Mangiapane button hooks and nobody is near. He has to hold on until one guy enters with speed. I do like the play but it's just one look.

Being in the offensive zone is better defence. But I'm also an advocate for a good cycle game, leading to guys going to the dirty areas in the slot. I prefer movement over standing still. we played against a senior team in their mid 50's to late 60s and they could play because they passed the puck so fast. Getting close to 50 I'm realizing that's not that old. Lol but I just mean that the way they passed was an example of that movement getting into areas that allow them to receive a pass. Anything outside NHL is pretty much a bad comp. Not saying it's not the same ideas, but the game is faster with players that do it well. What I was getting at is Sutter wants to keep the scores low. The team wants to get a 2-3 goal lead so they aren't as prone to losses or lead changes. Lead changes mean you are burning extra fuel to just get a similar result. You want to be able to use the push just when you need it. Not having to do that for 40 minutes a game every game because you have no lead or a one goal lead. We tend to feed on offense. When we score, we score in bunches. That's when the coach shuts it down. I want them to feed until they are full. Have it so tams have to cheat the line to win. I guess thereit's still energy being used up, but standing around andisn't going to help
