It’s really tough watching Lucic right now. Guy is just doing nothing to help the team and can’t even skate with the puck.

Agreed. This is Oiler Lucic. Zero skill. Tough way to end for such a heart and soul guy. At least he can retire comfortably, it’s time.

Probably my favorite game as a flame for Ruzicka. He was such a force on the puck and along the boards. It’s still a small sample size but he’s start to string together and stack good game after good game.

I didn't notice an real errors from him.

He was both physical and smart.

Sure that goal was offside, but from one angle it looked good.

He fits Backlund pretty good.

Has the finish that Backlund doesn;t always find.

Good game to build on. This looked more like the team from last year. More aggressive at the blueline, quick re ups, and more chances off to the rush. Haven’t seen them play at that pace in a while.

Sit Markstrom for a couple more games.  Just the fact that we didn't allow a soft one early in this game helped the rest of the way.

Sutter his usual self in the post game comments.

Finishing wasn't about going to dirty areas, just shooting high on a goalie that has good hands.

Was Ruxicka clicking with Backlund?

If you saw it that way. He did things that drove the play.

Good for Mange to get goals, but not really looking at one player.

Played better 5v5 and that was the difference.

Funny how he manages the bench.

4th line getting almost as many shifts as 3rd line 5v5.

4th line lost most of the draws last night.

The game showed we can hang with the best.

Except that 4th line.

PP still a huge mess.

Weegar should be on one of the units to move the puck.

But the 2nd unit chips and chases too much.

And top unit too many righties.

Far too many passes without any substance.

Have to fix that.

Maybe move Kadri to net front.

Toffoli to left circle.

Kadri

Hubey-Lindholm-Toffoli

Ras

Ruzicka

Weegar-Backlund-Mangiapane

while the flames did play well I don’t view this as any type of measuring stick. Honestly they should handle a Capitals team that is as depleted as they are.

lots of encouraging things but still another level to reach imo.

The most bizarre thing was having a 2 man advantage and taking a penalty on the PP.

That isn't unusual, but it happened due to completely mishandling the play.

We keep trying the ame setup on the PP and same personnel.

It doesn't seem to be working.

We get the chances to put teams away and we can't click.

We eet momentum and send out a line that gives it back.

Imo, the best two players on the team last night were Ruzie and Mangepane.  Both players were beasts on the puck, driving the play forward all the time.  Mangie especially was very reminiscent of his play last year.  His puck possession was good and his tenacity to get to the puck was far better.  I especially liked the setup from Dube on his goal.  That was the type of plays that have been missing all season…quick pass and quick shot.  No goaltender is going to have an easy time with those.

Ruzie is proving he has a career in the Nhl, and needs to be used more.  Having said that, He is best when he is pushing the play like last night.  A bit lesser effort and he disappears.  Vladar was solid in nets and earned the next game.
Overall, much better game by the team.  Hopefully a sign of things to come!
