He's committed to Boston College next year.

Didn't know that

I honestly have no feel for how BT is going to approach this draft and the offseason. The only rumor I could buy into is the Derek Ryan coming here because certain players and coaches tend to follow each other at times if possible.

I think we are back into the cycle that outside of maybe the 1st pick or two, most of the prospects are going to go back to their College/junior etc clubs and I think this draft is no different. We got spoiled in some of the recent drafts with so many NHL ready prospects, but that's not the norm.

Which is why I think BT needs to trade Brodie and something to get us a top RW if possible, 2 if he can.

Buy out Brouwer

Trade Stone

The re-do on the '16 draft class will be fascinating in a few years.

Even the 2nd round is loaded with talent.

Not surprising

His logic is sound. Given where the team is at and where Treliving is at contract wise, short-term thinking (what have you done for me lately?) is in order. Why give up someone useful now, in exchange for a player who might help us in a few years?

It would take trading Hamilton in order to get into the 1st round and BT is in love with his deals as the right moves so he will live and die by them. I think the best thing we can look for is a trade of Brodie for a roster player and a 2nd. Maybe Stone for a 3rd rounder if they trade him at all.

It makes sense to assume Treliving will trade a defenceman given we have a few who are pushing to make the team. Regardless of who he might trade, I just hope that we get someone who has substance. These bargain basement deals have not worked, and our bottom six are just terrible.

Unfortunately, Hamilton makes the most sense to deal for me.

To Tampa for Johnson and Katchouk, throw me a 3rd if you make Conference Final, throw me your 1st if you win a Cup.

Tampa's on the doorstep, we aren't.

Choose your friends wisely.

Johnson and Katchouk would be huge adds at getting fast and sneaky, imo.

Hedman-Hamilton. Wow, I'm sure Stevie Y would hate that.lol

I don't think the our bottom six are terrible, more like there was never any continuity to them last season.

Given we've drafted a goalie every second year, I'm going to say we draft a goalie with our 4th rounder.  Who is out there in that range?

A bunch of guys I've never really heard of

From Draftwired:

Justus Annunen

Kevin Mandolese

Jakob Ingham

Amir Miftakhov

David Tendick

Keegan Karki

That's all I know. Unfortunately once rd 4 comes along there isn't a lot of info on the kids.

I feel like round 4 would be a great opportunity to pick a goalie from Europe.  Goalies are generally voodoo but this seems especially true in places like Finland and Czech.  There's an opportunity to land a future #1 starter if we pick the right guy.

Annunen's a Finn but he's ranked a little higher at 97 on draftwired.

Should check that site out, they do a really nice job of it. Can break down by position etc etc and they show you other site rankings.

Takes a minute to load, but love how they've laid it out.

I wonder how far RW Mascherin will fall on re-entry.

I'm still big on Ivan Morozov if he's there in the 4th (he's projected in the early-mid third round, but he might slip because he's Russian). He'd definitely fill a need as a Right Shot forward, he plays Center and Left Wing (but being a right shot, might be able to adapt as a right wing). And he is pretty skilled, (in several international tournaments and in the lesser junior leagues he was 2+points per game, and in the MHL/Russian AHL, he is just under a point per game still, first year pro in Russia).

Though I definitely see a goalie this year, I don't think it matters if we put it off to our second fourth round pick if Morozov is available with our first fourth rounder.

I also wouldn't complain at a possible Ryan O'Reilly (C/RW USHL player, committed to University of Denver). I mean he's big, RW/C, Right Shot, Power Forward, and he's named Ryan O'Reilly. This is the whole O'Reilly package. Plus (as Flames Nation put it), he's never been involved in an impaired driving accident at Tim Hortons.

I recall a Cory Stillman ranked in the late first round many moons ago.  He got drafted in the 4th round but was never heard from again.

What if it's the same?

Just spitballing into the draft but you are a secondary DET buff, would they give us their #6 for Brodie ? Hear me out and I know you don't like some of the CAR talk but let's say Hamilton gets us Lindholm, Hanifin and a 2nd rounder. Brodie for DET's #6 gives us a chance at Hughes, Bouchard or Boqvist all very good RHS-RD. Thoughts ?

Since we don't have a pick in the first 3 rounds, I thought about players who could be available in the later rounds. As usual I could only judge them on their stats and my gut feeling. I left goalies out, since they are so hard to predict. I chosed players who for the most part are not in the top90 in Central Scouting and Future Considerations.

Round 4, #105th

C Simon Der-Arguchintsev:  https://www.eliteprospects.com/player/315260/semyon-der-arguchintsev

One of the youngest players in the Draft, who is a right handed Center. Looks like a playmaker, put up good numbers on a bad Peterboroughs team. Feel like he could be a top 6 Center.

C Ivan Morozov:  https://www.eliteprospects.com/player/396897/ivan-d.-morozov

Also a young russian RH Center, who had a solid first season in the Russian youth league.  Played in the WJC-18 and put up 5 points in 5 games. His potential might not be as high-end  as Der-Arguchintsev's but I feel his floor is higher. So basically I think he could also work as a bottom 6er.

C Oscar Back:  https://www.eliteprospects.com/player/294263/oscar-back

A big, left handed Center who possesses a solid 2-way game, Might not have the offensive tools/potential to be a top6, but has a good chance of becoming a strong defensiv bottom 6er.

Round 4, #108th

RW Lenni Killinen:  https://www.eliteprospects.com/player/332303/lenni-killinen

A fast LH Right Wing, with a good shot and solid passing. From what if've read he is a good stickhandler who sometimes carries the puck too long. Also needs to work on his D game. Put up 41 points in 38 games in junior and also got a 10 game stint in the second league.

D Scott Perunovich:  https://www.eliteprospects.com/player/300906/scott-perunovich

Suggested him with one of our 6th rounders in 2016! A very small offensive D-man, who can run a powerplay, very good passer. Had a pretty good first season in the NCAA with 36 points in 42 games, also improved in the D-zone.

D Daniil Zhuravlyov:  https://www.eliteprospects.com/player/375639/danila-zhuravlyov

Not the biggest guy, but pretty strong for his size. Looks also more like an offensive D-man, makes good zone entries and possesses a good shot. Played in the WJC-18 and put up 5 assists in 5 games.

Round 6, #167th

D Simon Johansson:  https://www.eliteprospects.com/player/289775/simon-johansson

Second year eligable offensive Defender with good size and a right handed shot. Put up good numbers in junior and got an 8 game stint in the SHL. Still needs some work on his D-game.

LW Oliver Okuliar:  https://www.eliteprospects.com/player/331879/oliver-okuliar

Could be a dark horse. Put up very good numbers in junior and played 5 games with the slovakian U-20 team in the second league (4points). Also had a good showing at the WJC-18 with 8 points in 5 games. Maybe he should be considered at one of our 4th round choices.

LW Ryan Chyzowski:  https://www.eliteprospects.com/player/344066/ryan-chyzowski

A hard worker, who loves the physical part of the game, improved his offensivee game. I think he has bottom 6 potential as a modern grinder, pker.

Round 7, #198th

F Adam Klapka:  https://www.eliteprospects.com/player/318741/adam-klapka

The ultimate Boom or Bust type of prospect! Late birthday with monster size and a RH shot. Not sure if he is a C or RW. As always guys his size, you have to know if his skating and mobility are good enough. Put up good number in junior and will probably play against men in the coming season.

RW Ivan Korosenkov:  https://www.eliteprospects.com/player/313588/ivan-kosorenkov

An overager who had good numbers in the QMJHL for Victoriaville. Looks like a goal scorer, though question is how much of his production is because of Abramov and Comtois.

D Toni Utunen:  https://www.eliteprospects.com/player/355654/toni-utunen

Smart finish D-man who played most of the season in the second league with 12 points in 28 games. Played also as captain in the WJC-18 with 3 points in 7 games.
