AlbertaBoy12
Just was taking a look at potential RFAs and UFAs for the summer. Does anyone think it would be worthwhile to target someone like Chris Stewart, he played well for the Wild on the home stretch. I dont necessarily think it would be worth it but an RFA like taresenko, Jimmy Hayes or Jakob Silverberg might be a worthwhile off season grab. The offer sheet for taresenko would be quite substantial, but having him and gaudreau would be amazing moving forward.
The_People1
It depends on what we want to do with Colborne and Jones. I like Jones RHS. Plus, he's a natural RW. But obviously, at $4-mil-per, he's not cutting it. Plus he's injury prone. Colborne is on the RW only cause that's the only roster spot open. He's not a consistent scorer but he appears to be learning how to use his big body effectively. If he can continue with that, then i think there's hope for him to turn into something decent. Still, i think he's more fitted to play Center or LW instead of RW but those positions are stacked. That said, Chris Stewart is a marginal upgrade at best. Hayes is interesting but i'm not sure he's an upgrade over Jones or Colborne. Silverberg looks like he's got potential but is stuffed into a lesser role in Anaheim. Maybe Phil Kessel is the only RHS RW who is reasonably available. With Poirier most likely starting the season full time with the Flames AND with Hathaway signed from college and likely playing at some point next season, it looks as though our RW is full. Wrek
I was disappointed when Hayes signed with NYR. Was hoping he would follow his college line-mates to Calgary. He would of been a nice piece that came free. With that said he's a RW I would like for the Flames to get their hands on.
cccsberg
Think we've got plenty of RW for the moment, another year or two to see how Poirier, Hathaway, Wolf, Ferland and Smith turn out (I'm hoping at least four make it) before committing to another UFA/trade. Also have Hudler, Colborne and Jones to figure out (probably keep at least two of these), and that's not including the likes of Bouma, Byron and others... In addition its unlikely we'd try the RFA market. Too dangerous as other teams could attack ours so best to keep it in-house unless there is a compelling reason/problem that makes someone available. MAC331
I wouldn't be afraid to pick up Stewart but I wouldn't pay big money for him, 4.5M tops. I would see about trading Jones, for his size he plays a lightweight game. RW will depend on what they do at C for each line going into next year. If you could pick up Stewart maybe you put him with Gaudreau and Monahan for some size and toughness. Take Hudler and put him on a line with either Bennett or Colborne at C and the other on LW. I think you have to fit Jooris in on RW may on the 3rd line. Gaudreau, Monahan, Stewart Bennett, Colborne, Hudler Bouma, Backlund, Jooris Bollig, Shore, Ferland I wouldn't seeing something like this to start 2015/16 for our forward lines. AlbertaBoy12
Im not suggesting we sell the farm here to get a RW. But, I think a player like stewart in our top 6 would not be a bad thing and a line up like MAC suggested wouldnt be bad. Although I would see it shaping up more like; JH- Mony- Stewart Bennet-Backlund- Hudler Bouma-Stajan-Jorris Ferland-Colborne-Shore Extra Raymond, Bollig. Maybe Poirer is able to step in, but we dont have alot of depth on RW for right handed shots. Also I dont think Colborne is cutting it. Adding another RW or two is creating the environment the flames want.
robrob1974
Stewart at 4.5 seems like a lot for a player that's underperforming. May as well just keep Jones.
AlbertaBoy12
Stewart at 2.5 3 million might end up being a steal, he was a .5 ppg player for the wild. Who knows what could happen if we sign him.
MAC331
I'm sorry but I just have never seen Backlund as 2nd line material and I think Colborne at C not wing makes him way more effective. I think the offseason decision for the Flames is Stajan or Backlund, one has to go IMO. I think it may or should be Stajan. I would like to see what Hartley could get out of Stewart and as a FA 4.5m is where I see him. I will bet he gets that from somebody. Jones should be the one making 2.5M max and may be hard to move. robrob1974
I wouldn't sign Stewart at 4.5. It's a mistake. Just like Raymond was a mistake.
Flyerfan52
Depending on what their agent asks 1 of Stafford, Frolik or Stempniuk look good as UFAs. Watching the Jets I've seen all 3 buy into the work ethic. Stewart I have less faith in & 1 figure @ least 2 of those 3 sign cheaper.
MAC331
I like Stempniak but I think Jooris will be as good or better. We really only need some who fits on line 1 or 2 IMO.
Flames04itwasin
Depending how the shake up in St. Louis goes this off season i just hope that T.J Oshie comes available and Treliving makes it happen. I'm not going to speculate what would be traded back their way because honestly i'm not sure what St. Louis is short of, but right now Calgary is pretty stacked with assets and cap space. (not sure how much Oshie's cap hit is) but i think his work ethic, skill set, and the fact he's a right handed shot RW would make him a perfect fit on Bennett's line and with the identity of the Flames. 420since1974
I feel that Jones has been very effective on the Flames shut-down line. Bouma - Stajan - Jones for under $8M/yr is good value for the very important, thankless job they do.
kehatch
I don't see Stempniak as an upgrade on Colborne, Jones, Shore, Jooris, etc. He certainty isn't an upgrade on Hudler. That's six guys that can and have play(ed) RW. Plus we have guys on the farm like Poirier that can fill in bunches. If we upgrade our wing it shouldn't be with a middle of the road player like Stempniak. He either needs to be a defensive specialist, be physical, or be a top 6 point producer. DirtyDeeds
Iggy! Iggy! Iggy! Sure and lets get Theo out of retirement too and let them alternate shifts on ice.
freakofnature
If Iggy really wants to win a Cup, maybe he should come back to the Flames next season.
Addicted
That would be a fairytale ending for sure.......Iggy traded back at the deadline, finally hoist the cup in Calgary, and retires. Come on Bettman...pull your conspiracy strings and make it happen!
kehatch
If Iginla didn't have the history he has here that might be a deal that actually makes some sense. But only at the deadline next season and only if Colorado is out and Calgary is in. But he does have the history. I think it could prove as a distraction and disruption. Addicted
Hmmm maybe, or it could inspire the young guys to win one for Iggy. You got to know he'd put his heart and soul into it if given that chance.
MAC331
How about Beleskey as a FA and make him a RW ??? this guy killed us. Food for thought.
cross16
Belesky is going to get seriously overpaid based on his playoffs. He is going to be the next Brian Bickell and I have no interest in paying Belsky close to 4 mill or more.
AlbertaBoy12
I would almost rather offer sheet some RFA Rw, the ones that will be available shouldnt cost us that much. Which at the end of the day means maybe a 2nd or 3rd round pick as compensation, we have picks to spare. It really depends, but at this point in the rebuild getting a RFA RW whos still 23 or 24, that can step in for a couple picks is not a bad thing. JTech780
Just looking at the UFA list and my first choice for a RW would be Justin Williams. The guy is a winner and has shown that he can be clutch at the most important times. I think he slots perfectly on the 2nd line.
