Anaheim goes off the board too...

Would we really be criticizing Calgary as hard if Shinkaruk wasn't there? I guess that's my only question at this point.

It just seems eerily similar to last year. Going off the board with highly rated players still available.

Not saying this kid won't be good, but at 22nd instead of 28th? Makes one wonder what is up with the 28th.

Is that in play? And I don't mean for second rounders.

How would 28 be in play for anything significant? I'm sure teams would have asked for 22 at least...

I don't consider a pick a waste when you get a solid prospect

Not a waste, just a waste of not taking what I think were better choices at #22...   I would have rather they used that pick on Shinkaruk, or one of a couple of others that were still available...

eg: Hockey Writers had Poirier at #42...   http://thehockeywriters.com/emile-poirier-the-next-ones-2013-nhl-draft-prospect-profile/   I agree with him being rated in that range or even lower, and I also think he might have still been there in the 3rd round for the Flames...

I dont like the term off the board. In this draft I really believe from about 16 or 18 up to say 46 ish you can make cases for guys in that range and for different reasons like certain players because you have such a solid group of prospect with decent NHL upside so in not shocked at all you are seeing different teams Iike different guys.

Possible that the Habs were looking at Poirier I suppose.

I am starting to calm down a bit on this pick.

Every team has different rankings, so it is hard to judge based on publications.

And I would have preferred someone else too I just don't think you can call a pick as waste when you get a solid prospect. It's not like they got a brutal player or something.
