  1. To me the issue is still the cost to get him & that contract. I'd take him if it only cost Sven & a 2nd in 2016 with TML retaining 2 million. That won't happen so I'd rather use the assets elsewhere. He remains an expensive 1 dimentional winger regardless of how you pile things. I'd pay more for Seguin & break the bank if a 1D came along. Brent Seabrook is > Kessel in value imo (& will be UFA after the season). I'd trade a fair bit to have him & 1st right of negotiation now. There Sven & our 1st come into play. He makes 5.0 now so the re-up will probably be 6-6.5 (he isn't Keith). @ 29 do that time 4-5. A bit less if only 1st chance. 1st right cost us a 3rd rounder & Leopold for JBo but the window is tighter now. There I'd try Sven & our 2nd. If no go our 1st & a lesser wing prospect.
  2. I won't address rumors of Kessel being a cancer in the dressing room. I take them with a grain of salt whether I like the player or not. ***************************************************************************************************************** What I don't like is a cap hit of 8.0 for a winger (IMO the least important position) until the end on the 2020-21 season. Especially a 1 dimentional winger. Kessel is & has been top 5 @ RW for a few years but the fact remains he's 1 of the few good players on the Leafs. The TO hype machine goes into overdrive when a player is ranked high. *************************************************** Since the asking price is likely to be high ask yourself if we need an $8 million $ winger. General ? not aimed @ tmac.
  3. Just want to say "Get Gold Canada!"

What a fun game. However, TSN saying it was one of the best gold games in WJC history...sorry, the Toews goals take it.

  4. Goalies have always been a different breed. Some thrive getting an extreme # of games (anything over 60 imo) while others are best as #1 but playing 50-55. Workhorse Kipper probably wanted to play every minute of every game.
  5. That's fine. You live for the future. Some on us are enjoying the present.
  6. I'm happy Stajan will be back Sat. He went from a player I had no use for to 1 that I respect. He remade himself into a better all around player. That's hard work that needs to be respected.

  7. RIP Pat Quinn (71) & Viktor Tikhonov (84).

Sad day for hockey on both sides of the pond. Loved Tikhonov's Red Army teams, and Quinn was a very well-respected coach. Hockey in the afterlife just got a lot better.

  8. I like a lot of the new features & the return of chat. Heck of a good outcome from that meeting Kulstad & Pyro.

  9. The contract & the fact Engelland fills a position that didn't need filling are the problem. If worried about hitting the floor I could see overpaying for 1 year rather then waiting until he's desperate & ready to sign for minimum but the 3 years is a bad move. Every summer there are UFAs happy to sign a contract that pretty well pays double what they made in the last 3 years total. He was a minimum $ player for a reason so paying 5 times as much per year & then making it 3 years was ludicrous. Nobody wants him on that contract so it's play him (here or minors) while he puts a dang near 3.0 hit drag on the cap. I'm hoping we keep Smid over him if there is a dance partner out there.
  10. Lots of thumbs up if possible. I read an article on the CBC site about the best bang for the buck om every Canadian based team. On the Flames it was Gio (I expected Ladd for the Jets but they went EL Trouba).
  11. Anyone else finding the yellow on white hard to read? No contrast.

My niece linked 6 pistures of Glencross, Mike Green, Elyniuk, Couture, Barb Cuffley, Doug Crashley & Harvey the Hound visiting the Springbank Timbits Senators. I'll ask where she found it.

A friend of hers named Greg Head had that & other tributes on his facebook page. Seems he's a friend of the O'Brien family & was there.

Oh ok thanks. Cudos to the Flames for being there for them. Just can't say enough about this organization.

  14. I watched the 2005 WJC again yesterday. The TC roster was incredible.

That was truly a year to remember. But with COnner Mcdavid, reinhart and possibly bennet i think we will do well

  15. Enjoy the Stampede everyone. Last year DD & others worked hard to get things ready after the flood. If you caught 1 of the breakfasts 1 of my nieces might have been the 1 pouring your coffee.

  17. Those probably won't stop. TML fans feel that every player is in demand by the team in their home province (just like they feel every Ont. born player secretly has this over-whelming desire to play for the Leafs). The Jets could have a tandem of Lundqvist & Quick but Leaf Nation would see them trading 1 of them for Reimer.
  18. June 24th TSN is running a show about playing to lose. It's titled The Lemieux Draft (probably because that was the most glaring example).

Well Peeps, the Pens won 2 (7 & 8 years later) after drafting Lemieux & spending 6 years out of the playoffs. They won 1 after 4 more (would have been 5 if not for the lockout) to draft Crosby, Malkin & that bunch 3 years later. We got 1 Cup without having to sink into the mire so are 2 Cups worth 11 years of tanking? Not if you cheer for wins.

If you want to win, then you can't be afraid to lose.

That could apply to losing out on the next "Next 1" too. I've seen a lot of highly touted players called that but no Grtez or Orr so far.

  19. A little early to compare him to Kipper. We can hope lightning strikes twice & another team's cast-off becomes a great goalie for the Flaming C though. I really had few expectations about our 'keepers going into the year. I was happy we hedged our bets by keeping Joey Mac. I will say that the more I see of Ramo the more impressed I am. Keep in mind we only have a small body of work to judge by but I do feel more confident about him now.
  20. My problem is comparing any goalie to MAF as if he's a great goalie.
  21. I haven't heard anything about MacDonald being claimed nor sent to Abby. Wondering who backs up in Chi-Town.
  22. The only good thing about this besides DDs comment about testing his resolve is that the Hawks have no book & only play in other leagues to guess his tendancies. ******************************* Just a sidenote. In that 5-1 blowout over Wpg. neither Toews nor Kane registered a point. We really need to watch for their secondary scorers too.
  23. Actually Jonathon Bernier's RFA rights went for Matt Frattin, Ben Scrivens & a 2nd in either 2014 or 2015.
  24. Wow! Vanek to Isles for Moulson, 2014 1st rounder & 2015 2nd.

    2. Flyerfan52

As a rental Isles overpay. Moulson is a rental too but unless he craps the bed without JT he'll reap a 2nd @ the deadline.

    3. Wreckening

      Wreckening

The stupid thing is the draft picks aren't even conditional to Vanek signing. Isles got fleeced.

  25. We are trying to develop players but the multitude of unproven goalies aren't the most important IMO. We have a pile of goalies that can get their shot @ it. For now Monahan & Baertschi are in a winning atmosphere so if a career backup gives them a better chance to see that we try to win (as opposed to losing getting you more skilled wingers) it's worth more then pulling out all stops to make a 27 year old Ramo look good when we have 4 more unproven waiting. If I recall correctly Ramo has an out to go home if not on the big club. If he goes we have others to replace him that don't have a record of NHL failure & make less.
